AFL Club
Richmond
I would never want to see. Clubs with proud histories are needed in the league but I am starting to think that Carlton have 5-10 years of life unless there is a serious change.

The club was caught cheating
The team has been terrible over the last 4 years
The new talent is not special (Murphy and Gibbs are exceptions)
Players want out. Ie. Thornton
Coach seems incompetent
Board is gutless and leaks like bucket full of holes
Older players arent leading from the front
There is an internal conflict that has prevented any solution
MOney is running short.
Sponsors have had enough
The fans are losing interest and are starting to support the victory in droves.

What are the thoughts, can anyone change this truly woeful club? A club in crisis. Can they last in such a profesional comp?

If this was anyone else Carlton would be gone, but Carlton will be saved by the AFL needing a team like Carlton to survive, for they have a great history and strong supporter base, I wouldn't be too worried, lets just enjoy there position for one day we know they'll return to some sort of success which means not winning a Spoon.

Just shows how many bandwagoning fans they have. A true fan would support their club by buying memberships and attending games not matter what, not just turn up when things are going well :thumbsd:

How many members did Carlton have in 2006 as compared to 2005?

Was merely using it as an example. Buy more merchandise/memberships (if you haven't got one), attend more home games, donate to the club. Basically, do whatever it takes. It's in their supporters own hands and shouldn't be left solely to the AFL to bail them out. If their supporters don't give enough support then they should fold, simple.

In 2005 33 500 members but in 2006 it dropped down below 30,000.
What can be done?
With internal turmoil on field improvement is difficult

Their membership isn't a problem, it's their only constant.

Many other clubs would have rolled over and died, not Carlton.

In a new league I would think similar but this would be an insult to the greats. Brce Doull, John Nicholls,Rod Ashman, Steven KErnahan and Diesel to name a few.

Hey Stripey, you'd be well advised to have a look at the Richmond Board. It seems there is a thread there about Richmond merging with Carlton.
Go on, off you go and post your two cents worth over there.
Not so funny now, is it?

******** em, they laid the boot into us when we were down.

Some Gallah has posted something stupid and typically received no support. What is your say Bee? What do you want with the board?

But without the support they're getting from the AFL, they probably would've died.

Hey Parkesy, you clearly don't know anything about football, the AFl or Carlton, you have proved this on countless ocassions.

The rot that has developed through Carlton has stemmed form the ridiculous fines they received for salary cap breaches. The Eagles have/do/will breach AFL regulations as does every club. The AFL went overboard, and they are now suffering immensely too. They will not cop CArlton going down for much longer. There stupis fines coupled with a stroke of poor management, and they are currently up ********** creek.

They will be back, and if you think for one moment that your beloved club wouldn't sell out / fold in similar circumstances, you are completely diluded...

Carlton Pride/culture >>>>>>>> Eagles FC

PS - I hate Carlton

I have to agree with this. So many teams do it (AFL turn blind eyes to the interstates). But Carlton were hanged for j-walking.

Carlton is one of the clubs I dislike the most. However, I would dislike it even more if they were not part of the AFL. Rivalries is what makes any league great, no matter the team. I would not like to see any clubs go under.

Hopefully, the AFL will take a page out of the NFL and use their revenue sharing strategies so that all clubs have a better chance at survival.:thumbsu:

But for now, fans of financially struggling clubs, get your memberships renewed and support your club.

No idea but their attendances to home games haven't been anything flash.

Have you seen membership figures and possibly the amount of voluntary contributions made by members?
And the last time I looked a member doesn't pay to go through the turnstiles at home games.
Even in our darkest times supporters are still behind our club

You don't say?... Obviously their fans aren't supporting them enough, or were you soooo amused by your clever joke that you totally missed my point?

Their fans are supporting them though. More so than I think the supporters of most other clubs would in a similar situation.

At the end of the day, Carlton FC is a business that is being poorly run and people that hand over money want value for that money. If you're a Carlton member, you're not getting that value.

Their membership base is remarkable given their recent form. You're off the planet.

******** em, they laid the boot into us when we were down.

Who is THEY mate?
Some posters on BF blame Blues supporters for the crap thats come from the board for the past 25 years, how is that reasonable?
Also can you imagine an AFL without Carlton and the precedent that will set??
