Newman is not ready yet, looked rusty and looked more at VFL pace than AFL pace and that is forgivable for obvious reasons.

Ison is miles away from playing AFL and we should just be patient with him and accept that he will be spending some time in the VFL.

I think both Camporeale boys have improved kicking but both lack real firepower when it comes to their running power. Lucas is a smart player but one paced, positions well and finds it that way but doesn't take the game on. Ben is pure inside and is yet to become elite in there but we will see. If he can become a little more explosive and link up a little more around the midfield then that would go a long way.

Wilson was rusty with his kicking but that is also forgivable as he has missed training and match practice. Would like to see him tried on a wing. Still physically slender and that could be exposed at AFL level a little. At this stage would prefer him over Hollands purely for the difference with their kicking.

Monahan is someone who I see a lot of potential in. Has really come from the clouds of showing nothing to showing a fair bit. Reasonable chance to debut this year if progression remains solid.

Derksen looked slower than I thought he was on a number of occasions. Probably let himself down on a few ground level contests but he does well when the ball is coming to him. Reads it well and marks and kicks well.

Acres looks slow and will struggle in the modern AFL scene.

Fogarty looked buys but he is genuine VFL and always has been.

Young just has tricks and high level skill. Finds the goals. Not sure why he is consistently played as a deep forward? I would have thought that we may have been interested in his ability to play wing a little or high half forward as well. Not sure what our plans are here but he is kicking plenty of goals.

Saad stayed in first gear on low game time. I am guessing the point is to ease him back.

Charleson has not impressed me at all this season so far. It will be interesting to see where things head for him. He is someone who is playing for his career as if he is not close at seasons end will likely be let go.

Moir is a player I was expecting to be playing solid AFL football but isn't. He has regressed. He is plying deeper forward and a little in the middle and failing at both. His ability to make stay in the contest after a fumble is poor and he has not been clean at ground level or overhead. Moir is a genuine half forward and I think he is a bit limited, I think we are trying to fix this by pushing his deep forward game. Not sure where we go here, if he fails do we try him as a defender.

Cottrell had a lot of it early and was rested. He is another player who may push to play AFL and may push Hollands out. Cottrell can kick, this is the main reason. He was also having a career best season last year before injuries set in.

Duffy is still well and truly developing and there is nothing really noteworthy with him yet.

The team played old fashioned football, butchered a lot of kicks and made horrific decisions in the last few minutes when the game was there to be won.

They'll want to work Ison into the on-ball unit in the VFL as quickly as possible, his general craft around contests is exceptional and his disposal is utterly elite. Was expecting him to be a quicker player coming in, but he's opted to use his agility and find time and space rather than dash at full speed like he did as a 16 year old.

I am very hopeful of Ison stepping up, but am sick of seeing youngsters come in and play passively. Like Moir, and a few before him, they are allowed to swan in and out of the game, rather than being encouraged to be significantly involved. If they have shown enough to be draftees, they should be at a level of fitness to allow significant contribution in the secondary league from day one. We seem too ready to accept “moments” rather than a body of work.

Moir seems satisfied with a couple of highlights each week rather than banging the door down and contributing significantly to the team he is playing in. The kid is (potentially) a star, his standards are way too low.

Is Flynn Young quick? I have seen SFA of him, I dont recall him be fast.
Not really no. With how our current team performs, I'd only feel comfortable replacing Hayward or Evans with him, and both of them are in vastly better form.

I watched the VFL game and I thought Newy was close to our best. (Just read the VFL report
on AFL dot com and Newy was named best)

Used the ball very well IMO.

I am tipping he comes in this week and will be a welcome selection.

And I was rapt with little Byne. I know he didn't get too many touches but his physicality and footy smarts
were outstanding.... We got one here, gotta keep playing him. Should have been in from day one.

Newman needs to play AFL ahead of O. Hollands. I dgaf about t he age difference.

How are Ison and Wilson looking so far this season?
I think O. Hollands is more suited to a wing. At least Bring Newman in, I agree.

At least Hollands doesn’t go missing in last halves. He had 13 disposals in the second half, 8 in the last qtr. Plays his heart out and shows desperation, much more than some of our other senior players do in second halves.

Moir tending towards Menzel territory

Newman is a must on Friday, if you don’t want to chase arse repeatedly all day then his poise, decision making & kicking skills helps with ball retention & our ability to get set up behind the ball!

I have no idea who the Emergencies are yet, but one them will be playing. Maybe 2, depending on who we use as the match day Emergencies.
