I live in Brisbane but have been in Melb for the past 2 weeks, in this time I have attended two blues skills sessions.

There are a couple of things I have noticed.

1) Our skills are still a long way off.
2) The boys look bigger
3) Ratts, Teague and Skinny are very vocal, which is great.
4) I also noticed that the first year players finished training about 15 min before the main session did. Did this happen last year during pre season? I think this is a great initiative if it did not.

For those of you who have been attending training what have you picked up on so far?

My main concern is skills, they still don't hit enough targets. I love the drills that ratts has them doing. There seems to be a large emphasis on bringing the ball back into the centre and then a direct pass to a leading forward or a shot on goal.

Shh...don't give away the game plan!

Everyone has been talking about our less than perfect skills on the training track yet Rod Nicholson in the HUN today suggested fans should be elated at how slick we look, how fit we look, how much bigger we look. Sorry but this bloke is a long-term professional track watcher. Think I will go with him. No offence.

yeah i read that article too, but I have been too two sessions this week and the boys did struggle to hit targets.

There were certain exceptions such as judd, simpson, scotland and the like. But guys such as waite and co still do struggle big time.

I guess we are still 2 months away from playing so hopefully we will peak at the right time.

The boys do look bigger and fitter though, that is true.

I saw us beat the Kangas in the pre-season where they struggled to hit targets.......weeks later they were hitting them left right and centre.

Its not unusual for skills to be shabby at this time of year, the question is will we, unlike previous years turn it around in the regular season and improve as we go, or will we peak earl and drop off.

I think the current wisdom is that our fitness has improved and that we will peak with skills and hopefully maintain this peak for longer through the season.:thumbsu:

From the training sessions I have attended I'm not too sure what this 'groupthink' bad footskills is on about to be quite frank. No side is going to hit 100% targets, from what I have seen '07 pre-season versus '08 pre-season, our footskills have indeed improved.....each session I have been to I have noticed small improvements.

The footskills will improve as time goes on. Most of them wouldnt have touched a footy for a few months and now there just getting they skills back up again. At any football club even local footy clubs the skills are shit at the start of the season

Went down to training this morning. The senior and high profile players (e.g. Judd, Scotland, Stevo etc.) hit the target 99 out of 100 times. Skills were again poor this morning, a lot of missed handballs and a few dropped marks. Hopefully, this will improve in the near future.

On another note, i was quite dissapointed at not being able to meet a few players or even get an autograph, they all went into the changerooms immediately after training was over. Fev was generous enough to stay on and give a few autographs, but the others ran away.

2 things;

1. Players always look bigger in the pre-season.
2. Our skills are better his pre-season than in years past

Ive been to 4 sessions and rate the overall skills as far better than last years. Others ramble on about the mood being good, but I think the mood has been good for a while, but that sort of thing is hard to work out from the boundary line.

Skills of most have improved but you'll still see Benjamin not being able to kick and a few others spraying them.

It's only a matter of time before another Tiges fan gives me some Gold to put in there.......though the Hawks fans arepushing hard in the stupid comment category as well.........won't be long.:thumbsu:

Your right there , I think the dawks are getting a bit ahead of themselves this year . Lets see if they can back up last years reasonable effort where they probably could've achieved a bit more . Their gun recruit in S Dew should carry them a long way .

If it's the peaking that is really so important, maybe we should bring back Angwin and Norman to be our high performance coaches :p
