Carlton Vs Essendon

Apparently Hartlett played pretty well in the 2's, i'd be inclined to give him another run, would definately give the Bombers something extra to think about.

Also TheGeneral, i see you put Gibbs on Stanton, i think Grigg would probably get the job if he isn't out injured but is it a good move to play Gibbs as a tagger week in week out?

Anyone, do you think it is a good thing to play Gibbs as a tagger week in week out? He's doing a very very good job but surely he would be better used as an attacking rather than a defensive weapon?

He is learning the defensive side of his game. Ratts started off his career similarly.

Yeh i guess, but he has been given defensive duties for pretty much his whole career to date though, i'd love to see him been given a full game in the centre feeding Fevola the ball, his disposal is outstanding.

Jamison - Neagle.

Waite - Lucas.

Thornton - McPhee.

Setanta - Lloyd - the velvet sledgehammer might soil himself again.

Armfield - Lovett/Jetta.

Gibbs - Stanton.

Fevola - Is Joel Reynolds still on the Scum's list? ;)

Put Ryder on Fev.

Monfries might be used as a defensive forward/tagger on Scotland like Grigg against Heath Shaw.

Nash - Betts if the Bomber plays.

Fletcher - Fisher - Or they might play NLM on Fev to match him for pace and have Fletcher or another Bomber double team Fev?

Slattery - Wiggins - two hard players.

Ryder - Fisher - ????????

Reimers - Carrazzo.

Watson - Bentick.

Simpson/Carrazzo - Lonergan.

Simmo would be a good match up for Lonergan from our point of view and exploit him for pace and run.
Isn't Simpson more of aan outside player though? Lonergan is one of the few clearance players we have, would've thought Bentick or even head to head vs Murphy would be better options for you guys.

OUT: Hampson
IN: Austin

hammer has been good, but looks a little lost imo, and a couple of weeks with the ants will do him well.
perfect oppurtunity to bring in Austin and see what hes got.

Jamison---Lloyd
Austin---Neagle
Setanta---Lucas
Thornton---Whoever else/ loose man

send waite forward, which free's up kruezer to do some ruckwork since hammer is out. plus having waite in will make fletcher accountable and not play as a loose man infront of fev.

Cloke needs to get some knees into Hille, and just let Hille know he wont be able to run around and do as he likes against us.

thanks Ratts, thats all. if you need anything else just pm me mate :thumbsu:

Essendon's only hope is if we can't kick straigh at goal again. Seriously they ony beat a mediocre West Coast team. West Coast had crucial players out and have already given up (taking) where as we beat a near full strength Collingwood side.

This is a good chance to finally thrash a side...

You're right, but I was just thinking of a match up we could exploit if it comes off.

We've got our options HR. Between Jamison, Carlos, Waite and Thornton, I think we can cover Lloyd, Lucas and Neagle.

I think we can cover them. Thing is, can they cover us? :D

Neagle is not fat, will be too quick for Setanta and has alot more footy smarts than him. Don't agree that your backline matchups are any good and ours are crap. Fev is our only worry whilst we have 3 forwards caspable of kicking bags all be it only Llopyd and Lucas have proven it in a regular season match..

We will smash your midfield. Your last win against us was an abberation, but it surely kicked us in the arse to get the season together. Stevens has been down, he needs to make a statement against you guys, as too does Simmo. I also think it's time guys like Fisher, Scotland, Russell and Setanta lift their game and really come out punching against the Bummers. Now that the team is getting some fuel in the tank, it's about time these guys lift and make statements against our Number #1 most hated team and show no mercy and work on a good lead-up to inflict some revenge on the Saints shortly after! We have to make a statement on you guys and hopefully smash you back down the ladder.

Once you lose Llloyd and Feltcher you guys will be bottom dwellers for a few years until the draft gets you back up like us.

Interesting I'd think something like this personally

Jamison - Neagle.

Thornton - Lucas. Seems to beat Lucas

Waite - McPhee. waite becomes a playmaker whilst Mcphee racks up the clangers

Setanta - Lloyd - the only win for essendon in the forward 50

Armfield - Jetta.

Gibbs - Stanton. could be a good matchup

Fevola - Ryder

Monfries used as a defensive forward/tagger on Scotland

Nash - Wiggins, nash is too unaccountable for betts

NLM - Fisher

Slattery - Betts

Fletcher - loose/double teaming fev

Reimers - Murphy. would like to see this

Watson - Bentick.

Simpson - Lonergan. I see this as a win for essendon except could get hurt badly on the rebound

Mcveigh - Judd

Welsh - Stevens

Carrazzo - Houli

You have it over us in the midfield but your 'defence' is a major weakness which we can exploit. Carlton will put up a stiff challenge and I cannot see Essendon being thrashed by Carlton. You may well get the 4 points but it wont be a convincing mauling. You'd know what its like to be propping up the competition. What is it like? Essendon are having a poor season but look for us to bounce back strongly next season.

Our defence is weak? Have a lok at your own back yard, or even easier points conceeded
Dont think our defence matches up on your defence. You will have to contain Lloyd, Lucas, Neagle etc. Our defence struggles immensely due to the amount of ball which goes in there. More to do with our deplorable 'midfield' which applies very low defensive pressure. They have gotten better at this admittedly over the past month.

haha and how were they tanking. we had key players out too remember
houli, lovett, winderlick (all of which were in our best players for the past 3 matches).

we will get back houli and lovett and like you guys our kids are getting better each time they play. all you can do is beat the team your playing,
anyone who watches any carlton v essendon matches knows they are never a sure thing and its the kind of match you dont bet on because the upset quite frequently occurs.

Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing Hampson out and Hartlett play as a mobile ruckman. I don't think he will win a lot of hit outs but playing on the ball might do this bloke a lot of good and his mobility and height might be useful as a mobile ruckman who goes forward...

Walker might be a suprise in as well.

But Austin has been in the best players for the last month and is really pushing for selection. If he is played as a 4th tall defender, this would allow Waite to play forward which could be great for our forwardline structure.

Out: Hampson
In: Austin or Hartlett or Walker

etc. ? Is that who you're counting on? I'll look for him when the teams are named.

I haven't been this confident going into a game since R1 2002, God I hope Setanta matches up on the monger again.

I know it doesn't mean we will win, but I'm getting that pre-game tingling, that turgidity again. :thumbsu:

My guess at the Essendon Side:

B: Welsh, Fletcher, Lovett-Murray
HB: Stanton, Ryder, McPhee
C: Reimers, McVeigh, Lovett
HF: Monfries, Lucas, Myers
F: Slattery, Lloyd, Neagle
Foll: Hille, Watson, Lonergan
I/C: Winderlich (Jetta if injured), Nash, Holuli, Laycock

Out:
Jetta, Atkinson, Ramanauskaus

In:
Houli, Winderlich, Lovett

My Guess at Matchups

Backs
Lloyd - O'hAlpin (or Jamison)
Lucas - Jamison (or O'hAlpin)
Neagle - Thornton or Austin
Monfries - Carrazzo
Lovett - Armfield
Myers - Scotland

Midfield
Bentick - Watson
Stevens - Lonergan
Judd - McVeigh
Murphy - Houli
Simpson - Winderlich (Jetta)
Cloke - Hille
Laycock - Kreuzer

Forwards
Fevola - McPhee
Waite - Ryder
Fisher - Fletcher
Betts - Lovett-Murray/Reimers
Wiggins - Welsh

Russell and Wait to spend time forward and back.

Depends upon in's, Wait will nearly definatly play forward if Austin is picked but may play forward anyway.

I'd expect Kreuzer to play forward as well as ruck, Will definatly happen is Hampson keeps his spot.
