Joking of course?
We are fast tracking the ruck kids development by playing them - Ackland (and Saddington) are not the future

Suggesting to bring in Ackland is a joke, though I guess he had to have his chance. Bringing in Saddington is overdue however, or it is at least time to do it.

If we are going to play young kids, fine, but if we are going to use that as excuses/reasons as to why we lost the match, then yes, we should be playing more experienced guys. I certainly want to see him get one last chance before we offload him - waiting to the end of the year would be pointless.

In reply to a couple of posters who said we did in fact try hard tonight...I must have been watching a different game. Geelong were average, stop saying it was their hard bodies that won them the match...what cause Ling laid a couple good tackles

When I say we didn't try, I mean: there was no effort from Ratten to win it is seemed, he had no plan up forward, didn't seem to make many changes, or try new things.

I don't know about 'no plan up forward' - looked to be working better with Cloke up forward early and then it did not go up there for the second half of the 2nd Q or any of the 3rd! I think he tried quite a few through the middle but with their boys firing and Stevo dreadful early and Murph not firing all night ....

Blues were pathetic tonight. Not much for Carlton fans to get excited about. Difference in class was apparent to all and showed how far away the Blues are from the top. Clearly evident that some players just arent up to it. Carrazzo can get the ball 30 times every game. Think opposition fans care much? Terrible disposal of the ball. Murphy was poor tonight but he can be excused for 1 bad game. Russell should be delisted. Plenty of room for improvement though. Team still very inexperienced. Need forwards urgently. Many weaknesses in the Carlton side that need to be looked at.

I have only read through part of this thread so am not sure if this has been covered, but a couple of things that stood out for me...

1) O'Hailpin had one of the worst games i've ever seen him play, he personally cost us multiple goals through poor decision making or disposal.

2) Our rebounding from the backline, kickins in particular was terrible. Noone ran for the player kicking in, so in the end we often went long to a contest and lost out :/

3)Armfield had a ripper of a game, like the look of him!

4) I thought Wiggins really tried hard all night and made the most of his opportunities. Was generally calm under pressure and made a great take down and goal in the last quarter.

5) Gibbsy looked really good up forward. I know that the game had lost its intensity by the time he got there, but he was always so cool even under a lot of heat.

Got to agree. Ratt's didn't have many options. We need to take a risk with some more youngblood and get some pace through the midfield.

Damned if he did, damned if he didn't. He had two option's leave his man and run forward to pressure a guy who was going to have a set shot from 35 out anyway and subsequently pass it over to Setanta's direct opponent for a goal.... or stay back and let they guy have a set shot from 35m out.

It wasn't his fault we got hammered in the midfield.

yeh he is really struggling. I think he needs to drop back and get the form and confidence back.

I agree in that he is struggling to make his pressence felt, however we need to look to him more often also. Ratten really needs to tell Fisher to start commanding the ball, hell, I wouldn't even be against Ratten telling the boys that Fisher is the new number one target...would certainly put other teams off, and Fev as a second option wouldn't mean we get stuck into looking for one player.

Nutcase... never heard a truer nickname...

Your about 1,000 posts to late with that comment...

Ok I must admit your right about Cloke, presents himself well up forward at times. When I say 'no plan', I more mean a back-up plan. When it breaks down, it becomes really obvious, and we look quite bad.

The one thing I did like however was when we pushed the half-fowards back, to give the midfielders room to run in there - we should look at improving on this, could work well for us actually

I love negativity, btw. I think people call it being realistic though...

Not like it mattered. I know that we have a nucleus for what will be a good team, but sometimes you have to look at what you're up against before acting disappointed.

Reigning premiers off a loss against a young team blah blah blah. It was obvious that they were bullying our young kids last night. They put up a good first half fight but eventually it caught up with them.

However, in light of recent posts, I will now offer up positives:

Fevola pretty much destroyed Scarlett when we actually got the ball into our 50. Great speed over 15m.

Gibbs is pretty awesome at breaking tackles. With him and Judd in the midfield, we'd be pretty good.

Armfield is awesome. I'm not sure where the bandwagon is, but I want on.

Cloke is good too. Not Army awesome, but he stood up, damnit.

In fact, here's how we should run our forward line. Cloke in the goal square, Fev, 40m out, Ellard and Betts on the flanks. It gives us plenty of room for Fevola leads, some good crumbers and a goal square target. I call it the Blue Diamond. Patent pending...

That's all I've got. React.

Scotland and Stevens were woeful tonight and didn't run or tackle hard enough for senior players who are in our leadership group.

And people question why they made Judd captain.

Stevens wasn't our worst - but I agree for the most part.

Pull your head in C4, you only come on here to criticise and bag players because you're a good judge of talent and a supporter who calls it as he sees it. :thumbsd:

As opposed to what?

A sheep who believes what others want him to?

A poster who constantly makes up excuses for poor performance?

You should check out my posting history before you make such statements - or better yet, save yourself the trouble of forming an opinion and just call Wayne Hughes up first to see if his opinions conflict with mine, and that way you can disagree too.

Like it or not, I'm as Carlton as they come.

Russell ran harder and went in harder than Stevens tonight who pulled out of a contest after he copped that knock in the first quarter.

Oh fantastic !? :o

Russell was a ghost - and had no impact on the game what-so-ever and the sad thing is ... he gets credited with 'oh he ran hard' and 'oh he went in hard' by posters like you who are still trying to convince themselves that he is a decent prospect because we picked him up at #9 in 2004.

FACT: his much talked up and overhyped 'kicking skills' - which are supposed to be a strong facet of his game are truley laughable. He constantly misses targets and is an attrocious kick for goal with 1.7 for 2008.

FACT: Darren Pfeiffer is a better version of Russell and should be getting a game ahead of JR every day of the week.

Russell wouldn't be getting a game at most other clubs, and dare I say it: if he wasn't a first round selection in 2004 - you'd have all been calling for his head a long time ago.

Where was the talk when Bower was tackled and injured after he took them on?

Poor teamwork.

I can answer that by saying Carrots was woeful last night - no talk to his teammates under pressure, refuses to sheppard and constantly butchers kicks.

Disgusting post

Welcome to BigFooty - in time, you'll get used to it.

Here is an idea - forget 'Harden the f--- up' just SHUT THE F--- UP when you cant find any positives :thumbsd:
Judging from that comment above it is obvious that you:

  • Are incredibly ignorant and soft, and/or:
  • Have been a Carlton supporter since November 2007.

Here is an idea -SHUT THE F--- UP when you cant find any positives :thumbsd:

Err ... :o If that was the case - this Carlton board would have been a ghost town over the past 5 or so years given the dismall performances we've turned in over that period.

Seriously, if you can't accept an objective/negative review of our side from a fellow supporter - perhaps an internet fan forum isn't for you.

Go check out mycareer.com.au for any vacancies in dictatorship.

couldn't agree more. our kick-ins were disgraceful, no structure, no running, no marking talls. doubt we would have got it past 60m more than 5 times.

This part of our game was terrible and we certainly saw alot of it with Geelong kicking so many points :thumbsd:

Our backline has lost it's structure over the past fortnight, with Jamo and Waite sidelined and Bower going down last night. It's a shame because they were just starting to gel too.
