Jordan Russell really wasn't that bad and in particular in a bad draft year.
Yarran had brilliant attributes and even somewhat more appealing than SPS. We just couldn't keep him in reign.
Menzel a brilliant talent that just went off the rails.
Lucas was never the same after some injuries and then never made to feel part of the whole.
Bootsma had some terrific attributes. Thinking sadly wasn't one of them. Pity.

I’ll concede you Jordan Russell but I’ll also raise you Paul Bower

Recruitings the most important job at the Club and we weren’t getting it right and it cost us dearly there’s no excuses for that
Glad it’s finally moving in the right direction

I see it's Bailey Smith's turn for the now near obligatory subtle sledgehammer to the AFL and it's barstad sons GC and GWS that "while i know i have to....pleeeaasssseeeeee don't send me there".

And people wanna criticise the Suns for doing what they have to do by paying overs in trade or draft for quality players that actually don't hate the idea of going there.

They are a millstone and just have to do the best they can.

Direction is the most important thing at a club and without competent directors, there is no direction.
Recruiters and List Manager have to be employed from somewhere.
Fair point you can’t have the inmates running asylum

Can speak very highly of Bailey as a character and would love him at the Blues next year. Perhaps my mail may be unfolding after all.
Let's hope so would love Rankine and Smith would be our dream draft haul, gun mid and the small forward/mid with X factor we couldn't ask for more after our trade period.

Couple of rumours on the D&T boards.

GC going for the SA trifecta with Hately. (Poster claiming this from a loose lipped Craig Cameron.)
Port keen on Smith. (Source, Mother of Bailey)
Gold Coast would be closing the doors in a few years if they took 3 SA boys, no way in hell they could be that anxious to destroy there own club, absolute insanity. Never going to happen.

Presumably GC would get Walsh and also our 2019 pick 1. Its still a 2 for 2 deal.

Depending on their timeframe, getting Walsh (and our 2019 #1) might be better foundation to start a rebuild.
Hello they are not getting our next years firstend of story it is pick 1 for 3&6 that's it no future first involved.

Agreed.
Walsh is the real pro here and who could blame GC for paying a premium for him.
He's ours for the taking ... and we probably will ...

WOW he has Rozee at 11 being passed on by both SA teams

It actually fits about how i rate him. I have him in that 8-10 range. It is interesting though as Balmer was actually the first one to start suggesting that Rozee was strongly in the mix higher up the order. Now he seems to be going cooler on that talk.

It wouldn't surprise to see him going anywhere between 5 and this 11 and Balmer prolly thinks the same. You gotta seperate and order them eventually though and some rise a bit and some drop a bit.

His current go-to meals include: egg whites and soy sauce with spinach, ham and Vita-Weats with spinach and a lot of chicken breast and green beans.

...

“I do skills and running in the morning, that burns your carb stores and then I have a coffee. I don’t like coffee but it just keeps me fresh.

“Then I study, then I eat, then I’ll hit the gym full of fuel.”

What. the. ****.

I sure hope that's not any indication of his total daily intake.

I have been reading this thread for a few months and loving the debate as a long time faithful Carlton supporter. This post is the first one that really motivated me to gave an opinion as I know that we are really all just amateurs at the level of our perspective of this years draft pool.

Being a mindset empowerment coach personally and seeing the results I have seen in my personal life over the last few years and knowing how powerful belief is, I just had to sign up and make a point on this post.

At which point did this club believe it was unlucky? Up until 1995 we were the most successful club in the history of the game. This was due to a belief within the club and its faithful supporter base
After this time, arrogance took over from genuine belief and club power brokers made some poor decisions and then believed they could dig themselves out of the mire by buying their way out but the game had changed and that set us back further. Then they made decisions out of fear to get us back to the top in haste rather than having patience which included dumping Ratten who up until his sacking had a similar record/trajectory of success - as Thompson did at Geelong just before his bear sacking at Geelong in their 07 premiership year.

But since SOS cane on board and Bolton took over as Coach, we have made so many positive and bold decisions. Not every one has been the best but the strike rate is solid. We have young quality across every line now and although there are holes, there’s not many. Imagine we had as good a run with injuries last year as Tigers. Where would we have finished? 14th? Maybe as high as 10th. I personally see us a sneaky chance to finish at just in top 8 and surprise and with a good run with injuries but with our list improvements and hypothetically similar injuries to 2018, we finish 12 -15th worst case.
Luck is crap, no such thing. We made our own luck for 100 years and won the big games while the Pies watched the Colliwbbles and cried about being hard done by (and still did this year). We have made mistakes for nearly 20 years and just started getting it right for the past 3.

We are in a win-win right now. Walsh will be great. That’s a win. If we trade and get 3/6 and end up with any of the other combinations suggested in other posts, that’s a win too because this draft has some real quality of depth. If we trade 1st pick and next year’s first for 2&3 this year that will be a win too.

The reality is that the arrogance has gone now and the true Navy Blues Belief and resilience has returned. The look in SOS and Bolten’s Eyes is the same as the look of successful entrepreneurs I have studied. We won’t win every year from 2020 onwards, but we will have a list that will compete in the top group of clubs for a decade and we will win at least one and potentially more.
Belief makes luck

Sounds like a nutter to me.
He could use a few nuts to up his fat intake... the bloke is eating about 70-80% of his daily protein requirements in a single sitting, which seems odds-on to waste some more of it to gluconeogenesis (conversion of excess protein into glucose, a form of energy that the body can actually store) than if he were to spread his intake across 2 or 3 of his meals each day.

Protein digestion is a complex process, and by no means do I subscribe to the 30-50g/meal 'rule' you'll see up and down the internet, but I can almost guarantee that portioning isn't as useful as he thinks it is.

I'm sure his intakes will get the once over from the nutritionist at whichever club he ends up. Can't help but be impressed by the drive and self discipline though, a bit Judd like in his manic preparation.

Our recruiting was horrific pre SOS

Trent Sporns
Shaun Hampsons
Like Livingston’s
Chris Yarrans
Troy Menzals
Josh Bootsmas
Mathew Watsons
Kane Lucas’s
Jordan Russell’s
*Kristian Jakschs

So many wasted first rounders over the last 20 years coupled with the sanctions placed on us by the AFL are why it’s taken so long
Looking for even more fun? Have a look at each draft year and see all the gems we missed. Did it one day and haven't stopped twitching in my sleep since.
