VFL Casey 2026 thread

I was thinking his kicking was OK today and he's even hit a couple of teammates with his left foot, but I haven't paid as much attention in the second half.

But he does look shaky even when executing what should be simple kicks for an AFL listed player. Kind of floats the ball slowly towards his target.
I've seen more of the second half than the first, so could be a bit of Jekyl and Hide for him today.

On Onley, he is what he was sold as when drafted. An athletic specimen with a lot of work to go on the actual footballing stuff. He's looking more and more comfortable as the season progresses as he got settled into the backline.
I liked the selection. His kicking definitely needed work. He's progressing pretty well. Big bonus if we can get him to push for senior selection later this season or some time next season.

Onley is definitely a project player and I can't see him getting a game this year unless there's a horrendous streak of injuries to tallish backs.

Berry is the other project player (White as well I guess) and Onley looks more likely to me than Berry at this stage.

Commentators glazing Latrelle now. He's been underwhelming IMO. Got a goal just then with his cousin's patented go-low-get-decapitated move. Kicked a nice one to a Jeffo lead early on. But aside from that he's tried to do too much, turned it over etc.

Pickett is far too good to even waste in VFL. He is just that far above the competition there that you risk him cruising all game. Jefferson looked good, and to be fair, is levels above Kentfield as a player. Xavier Taylor is a huge worry. He will be a hard player to slot into the seniors this year, and is ineffective at VFL level. His development will be an interesting watch. I was surprised the non-afl players weren't role players at Casey. Its a delicate balance to fill a side, win games, unearth prospects, and develop AFL listed players, but the whole side they have no doesn't play well as a team. Personally, I'd strip it back a little and bring in more role players, and better reflect an AFL side.

I don't mean to be argumentative here, but I disagree with almost every single thing you've said here.

Latrelle was so poor today. 0 tackles in the end, did sweet FA all day.
Taylor was really good today and is improving every week. Being in an under siege backline for much of the season due to a poor midfield has made it tough for him.
We just flat out don't have the players to fill the Casey team atm. That was a big reason why we took 3 MSD picks.

Appreciate the perspective of someone who won't have rose coloured glasses on, but like schmuttt I've got quite different views to you.

Kentfield was a beast, in a different way, at VFL level just like Jeffo was today in the first half. They both dominate when they are on for Casey.

That was the most solid and mature game I've seen Taylor play.

And Latrelle was doing all the things that got him dropped from the AFL team.

All IMO of course.

Think that’s a little rough of an assessment of Latrelle today. Had a few score involvements and did get a tackle (think it might have been shrugged in the end lol). Wasn’t great, but certainly wasn’t terrible.

Was surprised after the draft that we passed on Sharp for Latrelle and Taylor, but obviously the recruiters see them as longer term and with a POD to some of our other younger guys compared to Sharp. Both will probably need 2-3 years to come up.

To be fair, I think Jeffo’s half today was more dominant than any game Kentfield has played at VFL level in his career
