That's what everyone was saying before last nights match. Jankovic's form has been pretty patchy, shes a genuine chance imo.

True, they were saying it, and it was probably right to think Mauresmo would win, making it even more astouding that Casey came away with the win. The problem with these underdog stories is most of the time they have an unhappy ending. And as patchy as Jankovic's form may have been, shes still third seed suggesting it has been far less patchy as Dellacquas. All the best to her though, would love to see Casey get up and have another win

Good on her. Lets be honest, she'll probably lose comfortably in her next match but don't let it be a downer, she has come along massively and looks like with the added attention can finally get some of the sponsorship dollars and fame that she deserves. Predict by this time next year she will be a genuine top 40 or 30 player and hopefully can really learn from this tournament.

Anyone notice last night that one of the commentators, I don't recall who, saying that they believe that every sportsperson who tries their hardest, no matter what level they are at, will make it and get their time in the sun. Easy for them to say if they got it, but Im sure me and many others here have given their all and not had their time in the sun! Not to take anything away from Casey though
Agree with you about working hard and trying your guts out and having your day in the sun.Your dead right for some poor bast ards the sun never shines !!!!!!! This is a real good story though and in some ways reminds of how Rafter finally broke through after years of battling away busting his guts and struggling to stay on the circuit. They are similar in personality, have that never say die attitude and above all else play the game in a spirit that represents Australia in a light for which they have long been admired from opponents worldwide. Will never reach the heights of Rafter but i havent been so proud of an Aussie Tennis player since Pat. She,s a little beauty.:thumbsu:

good on her. shes been playing great. i would love to see her go all the way but i dont think she will but shes young and will get better in my opinion. another aussie on the rise

She is very talented, but sadly I cant see her getting into the top 30 :(

Exactly, one tournament doesn't make year or career, she maybe called an 'Australian Tresure' now but I just don't think she can get anywhere a top 20 spot. Mind you I didn't really rate Stosur as a top player and she has has some good results so I could be wrong.

Dellacqua has a decent amount of weapons and the standard of those hovering around 20-25 isn't that high. She just needs to work really hard on her serve and consistency in her forehand and that will make her a more complete player to at least see a few more third or fourth round results. Her backhand is pretty good.

The one part of her game that she'll always have is her never say die attitude. A bit more fitness training and that would become even more of a stand out. With that said, I don't buy into the whole "Aussie battler" thing. She's not a quitter and she happens to be Australian - those two things are not mutually exclusive.

Like, I've already said, I was really impressed when I saw her against Srebotnik last year largely because she refused to quit even though she looked to have completely ****ed her ankle in the first set. I'm just hoping she can stay on the park because I'm pretty confident she could remain a consistent player around the 30 or so mark. Hopefully she doesn't get a case of the Molik's or Stosur's injury wise.

I just think that just after the wins over Schnyder and Mauresmo the Australian public are now labelling her as the next great australian female tennis player, and she is 22 years old but we'll have to find out if, if it was just a lucky run or her next step to her career...So time will tell.;)
