How German rated the Melbourne-listed players…
SENIORS
Rohan Bail – Rohan played half-back/wing. We saw his run-and-carry – a key reason why he was drafted – but his kicking let him down. He kicked two out on the full and that was disappointing, because he's actually a good ball user. He sprayed a few at goal, but otherwise his defensive side of the game was very good.
Kicks 8, Handballs 4, Marks 4, Tackles 3, Assists 3
Clint Bartram – Clint was good. He played an effective run-with and run-off role on a couple of players. His ball use is always something that comes under scrutiny, but it was pretty good. He also kicked a lot longer this week, which at times was effective. Clint's second half was very good, as he maintained his work-rate through four quarters.
Kicks 12, Handballs 11, Marks 7, Tackles 5, Assists 7
Lynden Dunn – Lynden was good. He played onball for most of the game and was tagged for most of the game. He was good around the clearances and finished with 24 disposals and a goal. Lynden will continue to put pressure for an AFL recall.
Kicks 19, Handballs 4, Marks 2, Tackles 3, Assists 5
Daniel Hughes – Hughesy worked further up the ground this week, because we had a tall forward line with Michael Newton, Liam Jurrah and Brad Miller and Hughesy has a good running capacity. He had 21 disposals and was quite effective in that role. He's starting to make some good inroads and produce consistent performances.
Kicks 11, Handballs 10, Marks 6, Tackles 4, Assists 7
Neville Jetta – His first half was excellent. He copped a couple of heavy knocks in the second half, but still battled through, so it was a good performance from Neville, kicking three goals. Hopefully we can get him up and running again for senior AFL selection.
Kicks 7, Handballs 4, Marks 1, Tackles 3, Assists 6
Liam Jurrah – Liam was terrific in the first half. He ran and chased, showed composure to kick goals and was really important. Liam's really starting to come on in leaps and bounds and if he continues his development, he's a strong chance of playing senior AFL footy down the track.
Kicks 10, Handballs 3, Marks 5, Tackles 3, Assists 6
Stef Martin – Stef played the majority of the match as a key back. He did a really good job there. He spoiled well, played close and his body positioning was good. Stef also spent some time down forward. He was really solid and we were pleased with his game.
Kicks 5, Handballs 6, Marks 2, Tackles 2, Assists 6
Brad Miller – Brad took 15 marks and was one of the best on ground. He took 11 marks in the second half, including seven in the last quarter when he took the game on. Brad's kicking let him down a bit, kicking 3.5.
Kicks 15, Handballs 3, Marks 15, Tackles 2, Assists 4
Jordie McKenzie – Jordie was great with 30 touches. He worked hard, was effective around the clearances and used the ball really well. Once he gets a little bit more size on him, I think he'll be seriously looked at, at some stage, for senior AFL selection.
Kicks 15, Handballs 15, Marks 5, Tackles 1, Assists 2
Michael Newton – Michael was good again. He didn't hit the scoreboard like he has been, but he actually kicked a goal that was initially given to Jetta. Michael's chasing and tackling was very good again – he has added to his defensive side of the game. If he can get his contested marking and timing right, he's still a strong chance of playing good AFL footy.
Kicks 14, Handballs 6, Marks 8, Tackles 9, Assists 14
Ricky Petterd – Ricky was similar to Bartram in a lot of ways. You don't always notice him, but he does a lot of hard work. He had 22 disposals, but dropped off a little in the last quarter. Otherwise, his run was good, as was his ball use, which was at 86 per cent efficiency. It was good to see that side of Ricky's development.
Kicks 15, Handballs 7, Marks 11, Tackles 4, Assists 5
Jake Spencer – It was a tough day at the office for Jake. He got concussed after a heavy knock, so that limited his ground time. Jake was effective at times, but he's got plenty of development left in him as a ruckman. We're not expecting grand things from him, but in the next few weeks we're looking for a lift in his game.
Kicks 5, Handballs 4, Marks 3, Tackles 0, Assists 1
James Strauss – James was back in the seniors after a few games in the seconds. He was good and showed a few things why he was drafted. His run from the back half was really good run, as was his ball use. We're looking forward to him growing from this game.
Kicks 9, Handballs 9, Marks 3, Tackles 3, Assists 5
Paul Wheatley – Paul was a slow starter, but worked his way into the game. He has missed a lot of footy, so he had to get used to the up-tempo form of the game again, having returned and played the past two matches in the reserves. He kicked a really important goal for us in the second quarter, from 65 metres, so that was good. He might be another match or two away from an AFL recall, but he was quite effective as a half-back/winger.
Kicks 5, Handballs 7, Marks 3, Tackles 2, Assists 8
RESERVES
Trent Zomer – Trent was alright. He played up forward and in the ruck. We just want him to use his athleticism and mobility a bit more. At times he can get lazy on the field, but now understands he's got to work harder and he's doing that. After kicking five goals last week and being effective this week, he will play senior VFL footy at some stage.
