take that up with the OP
Why? I was having the conversation with you.
You don't only have the OP as your entire standard for privatising centrelink.
And the OP at no point suggested privatisation.

if you think the welfare system is fine, that's great. I guess those welfare recipients are just whinging about nothing.

I'm not sure why you've resorted to silly posts.

It is quite incredible that government departments are so inefficient it's almost criminal, so incompetent that they can't deliver basic services properly and can't manage conflicts of interest like separating the requirement to provide quality service from the displeasure of paying welfare payments.

What exactly are you talking about here? Most government departments aren't that bad. The major problem (at least in the APS) is that they're constrained by outdated pay models, so obtaining good enough staff in highly technical areas is incredibly difficult. It also hasn't helped that the superannuation has been cut back significantly, which means that departments compete more on pay (which they generally struggle to do).

The only government department that I know of that is excellent in service and delivery is the ATO. I'm sure there are others but I haven't experienced another in the same league as the ATO.

Centrelink is not the worst, I would give that award to ASIC. However, the abuse of power and abuse of customers by Centrelink needs to be reigned in.

Often the DSC has to waste time standing in line at Centrelink to ensure these abuses cease and people with mental disabilities are not taken advantage of.

The DSC will be closed down in favour of the NDIS meaning our most vulnerable won't have the support they need to deal with Centrelink.

Personally I think this is a huge issue and a trade practices type penalty should be implemented for social welfare. Essentially any individual denying the rights of a customer should face a penalty of up to $100,000+.

And yes government wages should be market rate plus bonuses for performance milestones. We should reward outcomes not time.

Oh and one example of waste, labor's own numbers, put $19b pa in health alone. That's insane.

If you were genuine, you would have said at the outset that there is no issue with service delivery at Centrelink instead of arguing the merits of privatisation.

Why would I say that?

I'll admit to hearing bad things about Centrelink. I reckon that can be put down mostly to the poor culture which probably comes from having to deal with some out and out dirtbags. Distinguishing the scum from the rest would be hard at times.

ASIC are grossly underfunded. The ACCC are in the same boat. As an accountant I have dealings with ASIC on a regulatory level and i've never encountered a problem. But their compliance arm is utterly useless because they don't have any staff. I guess there's no votes in limiting white collar crime.

So what should it be? I think people have no idea just what healthcare costs. Me included to a certain extent.

Centrelink in the news again for sending threatening texts to recipients, invoking the Federal Police. They never learn, do they?

Centrelink does not exist to provide a high quality service to people who are given tax payer money for doing nothing , especially New Start recipients .

I agree completely with you. In fact I am beginning to strongly support the basic income concept. What else can you do? 715000 unemployed vs 175000 job vacancies says it all. And don't get me started on the Gig Economy, Own a Business, Robotics, Coding or whatever the latest fad is.

BUT

I'm simply stating the reality of the situation.

Let me tell you something any person who desperately try's to get and will take any job will get a job .

If for some reason someone cant get a job after 3 months on the dole they should be made to work for it , no work for the dole than no payment .

In addition to forcing people who are on the dole for more than 3 months to work for it , we need to implement welfare cards . They should not be allowed to buy luxuries why on the dole .

Doing what thou? What type of work? And if the work is that important why not just hire them like any other Public Sector job?

Working cash and unders. Yes probably. Official job. No.

I have been gainfully employed for 20 years, if for some reason I find myself on unemployment benefits, then I have ****ing paid for this service over the course of 20 years and a decent service is exactly what I expect. Government is not a one-way street, take your taxes, but fail to provide the socially agreed safety net.

If you agree N/S is a safety net for those who find themselves out of work then you also must agree that Centrelink must provide quality service. Whether that is deemed high or not is irrelevant.

This is the same mentality that keeps refugees on PNG. ''make it hard for the bastards **** em''

you clearly have little experience in any field relevant to economics or labour. where do you get this idea that there are always enough jobs available for everyone? eg, when the GFC got into full swing, did millions of people just decide to get seriously lazy and quit their jobs?

unemployment numbers in AU in may were approx 730,000. that's not even counting the large number of underemployed. job adverts were about 175,000. please source the 555,000 phantom jobs hiding in the background, ready to be given to anyone who asks for them.

I didn't say there are enough jobs for everyone at any 1 moment . But lets not kid ourselves for some people it is a lifestyle chose or they are job snobs .

We can argue all day about how many people choose to be on the dole but the key is to set high standards for seeking work . If they don't meet those standards they lose their payments .

They also need to work for the dole after a short period of time .

.
And then what

The work doesn't need to be important it can be remedial such as picking up rubbish and pulling out weeds .
Work for the dole cant take work away from people who are getting paid to do those jobs or you end up having to pay them the dole too.

That's their problem , sad but they made their choice . If they don't meet the requirements of looking for work they lose their payments .
Ahh and this is the problem , people think they have a solution but they only create more problems, and as long as those cut off dont rob your place then all is good with the world

Im sure the he would make them work for the dole as security guards to stop the dole recipients who have been cut off from having to rob to eat.
Then they just starve to death and reduce unemployment.

The only other solution is to create actual jobs and thats too hard

If you start cutting of more peoples dole payments than less people will break the rules .

You also highlight the reason why law and order along with defence are the most important priorities for government .
