now they're lying under oath!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But its true we are too stupid to use the complicated easy as MyGov site so we inundate the phone line

:moustache:

You have to think about the demographic that regularly needs to contact Centerlink.
My challenge to you is to sign up and link your medicare to your tax.

I shall wait

My next door neighbour said she had linked her medicare & tax but it wasn't working so the people on the MyGov hotline told her she first needed to unlink in order to link, when she unlinked she rang back and they questioned why she needed to link again when she already linked. Then the person in Centrelink helping her to relink on the computers in the Centrelink office told her people like her were to blame for delays because they were wasting the hotline's time redoing things.
She is 78 years old.

Exactly, especially given that a certain hypothetical person, for argument's sake let's call this person Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, has an investment in property and therefore would like prices to be kept high.

I don't know why you would single him out specifically, as if you think he's the only pollie with an investment property.

What do you think a lot of them do with that $275/$375 per night living away from home allowance? (I can't remember which one it is).

haha, no i agree , MyGov is crap.
Which makes my previous statement all the more pertinent.

"My kid is eligible for a healthcare card. Here is the supporting documentation. Please send the healthcare card."

Should not require 20 hours on the telephone.

Here is another one. Friend on aged pension has been working as a casual for the last 6 months, reports the income fortnightly on the dot.
Contract is now finished and hasn't worked for 6 weeks, has received two text messages reminding her to make sure she doesn't understate her income. :drunk: As if she would!
Quick to send out those texts yet took them 6 months to approve her aged pension after the company she worked for went bankrupt.

Yeah but most of them can survive on a meagre salary of 400 odd K per year, with additional kick-backs, under the table deals, a bit of fraud here and a bit of corruption there, and of course advertising, but the chemically imbalanced Malcolm Turnbull has an estimated wealth of $200M which he is deliberately and methodically increasing during his tenure as PM at the expense of the Australian public, because, apparently, $200M isn’t quite enough for him.

As a former Centrelink employee I can tell you they are absolutely understaffed. They haven't had intakes of new staff in forever, and instead of putting on more people they are giving them overtime.. so paying more to burn out their staff.

I have plenty of friends still working for DHS and they all hate it now, they get smashed all day long... so they abuse their sick days and take as many off as they are allowed

Because those texts are automated and rely on trigger conditions, and a pension application takes scrutiny from a human being. Hardly a far comparison.
People throw statements like "it took six months" around, but I can almost guarantee there is a whole lot more to that story.

Also, the age pension has to be scrutinised more than nearly any other benefit, as it is one of the most widely generous benefits and is currently sending the country broke. In a world of ageing populations, aged pensions are increasingly less fiscally viable, and yet persist due to the idea of it being a "right".

The following link shows what kind of money you can have floating around and still receive a pension:
https://www.humanservices.gov.au/individuals/enablers/assets

Anyone who thinks the aged pension in Australia can persist in its current form are living in a self-entitled dream world.

How about I have two family members that work for Centrelink (for over 10 years)? Think that they may know a little bit more than you.

I didn't go into all the details about her application as would have been too long but suffice to say that at first application she offered all the information to assist them in assessing (both hard copies and on USB) but they stated no need. What a surprise that during the 6 months, they asked her for the exact information that she offered originally!

What if _Wildcard_ is in the public service?
You could do without the "i know someone so they know more than you" attitude

I agree 100% with this statement. Superannuation was accelerated 40 years ago because Governments could see the trends. Its the hiding/misuse of super that is the biggest drain. Super is meant to replace the pension ie retire and put your super into annuities. (understanding the current cash rates make it difficult for some on lower bases) . That the Super system is also flawed ie ''fees'' doesnt help people utilise it as much

The other are those who live in another country. Dual citizens etc. There is a comment that the unemployed spend ALL their money in the area they live. If you live in Lebanon or the UK then stop sucking on the tit of the Aus Gov. Have a reverse plan for those receiving UK pensions living here.

Assets Requirement

Think that the asset test is too generous but try taking some of it away.

I was, actually. Worked for Social Security back in the day, know all about the bullshit stories people like to tell. And the clientele. And the staff, good and bad alike.
Which is not to say some of those stories aren't true, but in most cases there's far more to it than anyone likes to admit - or knows to ask about.

I figured you were, I'm a former staff member myself and could pick up that you had a clue reading your post :)

Is there anything in the perception that government - take your pick - really isn't interested in addressing the key issues and is content to see people become so frustrated they just give-up. Terrible indictment even if partially true.

I'd say they are more worried about the "stats" than they are the work and actually helping people

That's a terrible indictment in itself.

Don't know anyone on the inside, but a few who see it from the pointy end and their feeling - almost to a man and woman - is there's quite a cost saving in driving people away. It's calculated.
