Yeah like I had anything to do with the KP re-development.. I should support a club with such high moral standards like Essendon right?

The duration and amount of benefit payments to unemployed should reflect years of income and tax paid... Then should drop over time.

Too many people who aren't motivated to work will rely on Newstart as an income if you increase it across the board. I think covid had proven this.

I was using your own words!

Australia operates a progressive tax system with those who can pay to pay more than those that cannot, that does not mean spending is tied to who pays.

But lets for a moment pretend it does then clubs like Hawthorn, Melbourne and Sydney would be the most financially supported by the government since there supporter bases would most likely be the top taxpayers.

But back to tax.

People pay tax for a number of reasons

1) Taxes create economic outcomes. Instead of the government demanding business or households do certain things, it instead creates tax deductions designed to encourage people or business to take those opportunities up

2) To contribute to society, this is supported by Adam Smith

3) Alter the distribution of wealth and in doing so reduces inequality

4) Helps to manage inflation

5) Taxes provide revenue for the state

I just want you to list these 700,000 jobs that are out there that 'bludgers ' aren't applying for because they are 'kicking back'

As opposed to NOT looking or applying and still getting the dole ???.......

Isn't applying for a * number of jobs per month a requirement to get Newstart?

I used to see a heap of bogus applications for jobs come through that I assumed were just people satisfying the requirement. Luckily HR filter these out now.

This is a problem because while some people are simply filling out their mutual obligations but what happens to the legit job seeker but you wouldn't know about them because HR has filtered them out and this is the problem people on the right are refusing to accept because it is the right that wants job seekers to apply for "X" number of jobs each month.

Yes so you debunked your own argument even as you stated it.

You can't " bludge " anymore.
No applications = no moolah

You USED to see a lot of bogus applications, how long ago ?

I have a thought experiment for you. Over the next month, find 20 jobs that would fit your skillset within a believable vicinity of you. Then, if you succeed this month, do it again next month.

Let me know when/if you stop finding enough positions.

Then, extrapolate that to someone with less credentials. Or with a child they need to pick up and take to school. Or to a person who is not ablebodied, physically. Or to a person with a record. Or even just someone in a low growth area, of which Geelong is one. Have I proven my point yet?

There are not enough jobs to go around when the economy is good, much less now. That's the point of the Coalition's strategies; if there's more applicants than there are positions, the power is completely in the hands of the employer.

Please note too, that this is not an agreeable outcome for businesses, either. You had to filter the faux applications, but that was after how many years of getting 1000's of applications that are a) incomplete due to not being serious applications, or b) you weren't going to hire anyway, despite the sincere way the application was filled out? Your business is as deeply inconvenienced by this stuff, and pays money to sift through the applications to find ones that work.

It's something that sounds good on paper and to voters, but is ultimately a shit status quo for everyone, public, jobseeker and business alike. The only people content with it are the compliance agencies - because they're certainly not jobs agencies - because it keeps things bloody easy for them and they can just tick your box or not.

Some good points raised here.

What's the ideal solution to the current unemployment problem, and at what cost?

Wait a minute you're accusing people on newstart of avoiding looking for jobs but at the same time you seem to have a bias against employing people on newstart or even looking at their job applications because they are obviously not "really" looking for a job when they apply for one at your business.

Wow.

That is ****ed up.

So not only do you hate dole bludgers, you won't employ them given the chance cos they are dole bludgers.

Probably not as much as they hate themselves...

Anyone who applies for an IT management role who has no IT or management experience is just wasting everyone's time.

It seems a bit condescending that whilst credit cards are a normal part of society, he thinks that Indiginous Autralians will consider it "magic".
 So right. So, so right.

Mutual Obligations are back for January YIPPEE
