I have heard from quite a number of different people of the past couple of weeks that The Crows are gonna make a massive play for Chad Cornes at the end of the year & throw a massive amount of $$$$ towards him.

Can anyone either confirm or deny this??

The Cornes' boys are Port maggots through & through. They have been completely brainwashed, Manson-style.

The only time you'll see them in Crows' colours are probably in Graham Cornes' dreams.

Geez, I hope I'm wrong, though. What's Chad worth? $400,000 per annum?

Ha, he'd never come.

Partly because if he did he'd be a hated man in Adelaide streets from all the parochial Pork supporters, and their large contingent of thuggery would probably try and beat him up if they saw him.

And he'd be a complete hero with the Adelaide supporters, who must outnumber the port idiots ten to one.

Do it Crows!

I have no idea if it's true but Adelaide have the salary cap room to go after a player like Chad and probably should.

With The King, Nigel, Ronnie Burns & maybe Matthew Clarke gone and also Ben Hart on Veterans list (if not already?) and with all the young kids on list who majority would be on base wage, we should have heaps to throw at him!!

I agree he would be worth about $400k - $450k.

We could just about double what he would get offered by Port without batting an eyelid (maybe not all of it legally - time to bring out Kerl's brown poaper bags of cash!).

They are going to strain for salary over the next couple of years, while we're creating an amazing amount of space.

And if he did it - all of his dad's mates in the media would make it sound like he was being a hero.

I can see it now:

'Cornes on a rescue mission'

'Cornes vows to make the Crows a "power" again'

While Rucci writes:

'Traitorous Cornes crawls to slime'

Capspace or no capspace you'd have to ready mammoth compensation, I'm thinking Stiffy and #7.... as there would be ample Melbourne teams willing to match his salary in the PSD.

Highly unlikely, either way...

I would almost do that. But i don't think Adelaide will give up that 1st Pick!

Port are not going to let go of the Cornes boys. Both Chad and Kane are too vital to Port and I think AFC would not be looking to trade for seasoned players.

Actually, I reckon Roo is also eligible for the veterans list in 2005. That will also save us another bundle (probably $200-300 Thousand).

I for one would be over the moon if we could get both of the Cornes boys BUT I just can't see it happening. Both are just what the doctor ordered. We woudl have someone who can play CHF and actually take a pack mark and an inside midfielder who gets sh|tloads of possesions who also happens to be a great tagger.

It would solve a lot of our problems but I just can't see it happening.

1. Both have just completed the first year of their 3 year deal.
2. Both are very happy at Port
3. What could we possibly give Port that would a fair compensation.

If we did pull it off I would be stoked as would a bloke that goes by the name of Graham Cornes:)

Yea hed be real great, he could chase McGregors shadow all day at training, then whenever we'have a big match he can go missing and get beaten by Mark Bolton.

Overrated.

Yeah that bonecruncher he copped from Lloyd had nothing to do with his subpar performance did it.

As for chasing shadows, didn't hear the statistic early on that he's 3rd in the league for contested marks?

Let's hear the comparison with Jason Cloke again Carmelo, that was a doosy!

I agree :)

What do you reckon we would HAVE to give up for Chadly and Kane.

I say take anyone bar Roo, Edwards, Hart, McGregor and a couple of youngsters in Reilly, Hentschel and Maybe Rutten. Anything else is up for grabs:D

Stiffy if you think Ottens is too old why do you want Chad Cornes? Didnt they come out of the same draft...

Chad Cornes looks good when a usually dominant Port Power side is thrashing someone, when Port loses he goes missing. And I dont care if hes averaging 20 possesions or whatever, He got 19 touches against the Crows if I remember correctly? Does that mean he played well even though like ive said many times Ken McGregor who isnt even a forward destroyed him.

There are a couple of reasons I am not keen on Ottens

1) he has underachieved and his market value is higher than I think it should be. He is also soft at the contest.
2) He did have a serious back injury that required operation. IMHO, his agility and mobility has not been the same since the operation and for a ruckman, such a serious surgery is ahuge thing as it can cut him down in a second.

Again do you think we would play Chad at CHB?????? If we did manage to get Chad (Which I doubt) he would be played up forward, possibly as a CHF. He can take a contested mark and would do more good to our forward line that Ottens.

Chad Cornes is an absolute certainly for an AA guernsey (either on a flank or most likely CHB) this season and Kane is a darkhorse for one as well.

Strictly speaking, just to get one of them we'd have to talk a first rounder and a Johncock/Burton so the price would be far too high - don't get me wrong, I'd say that is fair, but is more than we could lose given our poor squad depth.

Again, Carmelo - I don't understand why you're so negative in regards to Chad Cornes. In his first full year as a backman:

17 games, 21.41dpg, 8.17mpg (3rd in the league for contested marks)...

What more do you want?!

Thats pretty much the way I see it.
