What cost you the game Winty was that the opposition was better than you for once.

True, you were better than us yesterday.....for the first 15 minutes. After we got accustomed to the pressure you were applying to us, we outplayed you, and the fact we out-scored you 13.5 to 9.4 would reflect that.

What cost you the game Winty was that the opposition was better than you for once.

Also consider this...

FREE KICKS INSIDE 50
GEELONG : 5
ST.KILDA : 0

50 METRE PENALTIES
GEELONG : 3
ST.KILDA : 0

SCORES FROM FREES OR 50 MTR PENALTIES
GEELONG : 7
ST.KILDA : 0

There were quite a few times St Kilda should have gotten a free Inside 50 or a 50M penalty but didn't.
It all evens out in the end. St Kilda supporters were complaining about the umpiring as much as the Cats were/are.

Where have you got these stats from? I could easily be wrong, however I can only recall one 50 metre penalty for the entire match. Also, Champion data tells us Geelong kicked 2 goals from free kicks, and I assume this included the 50 metre penalty. So are you saying we kicked 5 behinds from set shots we received because of free kicks? I can't remember this.

I have no doubt in my mind that decision cost us the game.

Corey was within range - he would have scored at least a point from a set shot.
Instead the ball was run up the other end of the ground and St. Kilda scored the winning goal.

Anyway - I'm not that unhappy with the loss. Let the saints deal with the pressure for a change.

let the idiot saint fan have his fun please

Far from an 'idiot saint fan' jake.

Wasn't saying that the free kick count has to be even. Far from it. Was just pointing out that it wasn't all one way traffic as it is being portrayed on here. St Kilda had just as many bad decisions go against them as Geelong did. A few actually DID cost goals where are the bad ones against the Cats COULD have cost goals.

What the result does say Winty is that both teams are much closer to each other than many would like to admit. St Kilda teams of the past would have folded under the pressure the Cats applied yet steadied and won the game.

Anyway it was a fantastic game and am very much looking forward to possibly playing the Cats in the finals if that is the type of game that we are to be treated to. :thumbsu:

Good luck for this week, I have a feeling both teams are going to be hard pressed to back up.

Oh and jake, enjoy school holidays. ;)

All this being said, I still think you have pulled your stats from either your arse or an incredibly unreliable source.

Kosi clearly held by Scarlo in the goal square very late in the game. If it was the first quarter it would have been paid and been an almost certain goal.

The advantage call was a shocker for the Cats.

The monkeys with the whistles will do you over just about every week, no matter what team you follow.
Yesterday it was only four points on the line.
Heaven help 'em if something bigger is up for grabs and stuff like that happens in September.

We finished the night with five behinds. 2 of which were recorded as rushed. So to get to 7 we must have had all our kicked behinds come from free kicks.

The behinds were marked to Jimmy, Chappy, Hogan, Shan and Hawkins. Hogan didn't get a free kick for so his behind couldn't have been from a free. Hawkins had 1 free and it was for the ludicrous shepherding out call on the wing which I don't think he scored from. From memory Shagger's miss was on the run (could be wrong though). Can't really remember Jimmy or Chappy's behinds. But I think there would be 2 or 3 behinds from frees at most.

Not only this, this bloke has said we got 5 free kicks inside 50 as well as 3 fifty metre penalties in our favour. I dispute both of these stats, as I, and several others I have asked, can only remember one 50 being paid all day. On top of this, I just cannot believe we were given 5 frees inside our 50.

50m that wasn't paid to Moons after that dog Dawson ran through him after a mark on the 3/4 time siren? No goal.

Go away.

50 against Jones.....Ablett goals!
50 against Schneider........handball to Chappy......goal!

There's two

Unless you are arguing they were incorrect decisions, it's irrelevant.

You guys definitely shouldn't complain about the umpiring...

Got a pretty decent ride all day, and Varcoe screws up an advantage call at the end and you reckon you were screwed by the umps all day?

The whole point of the advantage rule is that a team shouldn't be penalised by having to stop play when they were clearly advantaged in letting play go on.

Are you saying that Geelong were clearly advantaged by letting play go on in this case? To the contrary, by playing on, it played directly into St Kilda's hands, even though Geelong were infringed against.

I think it is pretty obvious who screwed up the advantage call, and it certainly wasn't Varcoe.

That one gets evened up by the non-call to Ablett in the last quarter. The commentary to that one was rather funny.

Vozzo: "You fell over Gary. I was watching it all and you just fell over."
Leigh Matthews: "Well, if he was watching it all, he should've paid a free kick."

It is relevent to Heapoie saying he/she could only remember one 50 all day.

BTW The one against Schneider was soft. He was too late to pull out of the contest and didn't exactly clean up the Cat's player.

Soft or incorrect? There are plenty of soft free kicks or 50m that are paid, that are correct calls.

The issue is whether the correct decisions were made. Whether a decision is soft or not is irrelevant.

Ahh no... I think most people have said they were generally happy except for the advantage call. And unlike most other umpiring decisions, they don't have to make this one on a split second - they have a couple of seconds to call it back. So that was a pretty major **** up. But it wasn't the reason we didn't win - we didn't win because the Saints played better.

In a conversation about poor umpiring, it's irrelevant.

Both the 50s you identified were correct calls.

By all means though, highlight the bad ones...

 Geez, we can all be a bit one eyed sometimes but that's taking it way too far. Take a deep breath, take your time, use logic and rethink before you type anything.

I actually think that the best team on the day won. Bad umpiring decisions to both sides but in the last five minutes.....just watch it again and see what you think. There was definitely a dodgy one against the saints midget, but there were a few more bad decisions against the cats.

You come on here posting fake stats to try and make some non-existent point.

If it looks like a duck .....

He told us to think about the stats. I have thought about them, I have asked for there source and he's run off. I think jimmyh has summed it up perfectly.

.All praise goes to the saints sterling pressure and looking forward to the grand Final - from Paris of course probably at the Cafe Oz at 5am!!!!

Wtf?!?!?

Not as bad as the Leigh Colbert mark not paid.

Ugh, why did you have to bring that up for?

True, that decision mightn't have cost us the game, but the non-decision to Ablett, the 50m penalty Mooney should've got on 3/4 time, and Kosi being able to have a shot at goal about 5m closer to goal early in the last quarter certainly did.

Agree, dam that was very frustrating imo. What does that guy have to do to get a 50M? Get decapitated perhaps?

Directly from Champion Data my friend...

Always had respect for Geelong but it is fading due to the amount of sore losers on here.
