Bendigo also play this week, so all Essendon players will have the week off next week to freshen up.

After tonights match, I get the feeling a few guys will have there head on the chopping block..

OUTS:

Despite him kicking two goals, Sam Lonergan was just in the right place at the right time, he will be under pressure from Reimers, Dempsey, Myers, Dyson even Quinny as a small forward.

His stats were nothing to write home about and did not add much at all to the line up today. I do not think he is up to it and as mentioned, he was just in the right place at the right time to recieve handballs to kick his two opportunist rolling goals.

Gets me every time why we play Jarroad Atkinson. He did a better deffensive job than what Dempsey would have done, and despite him winning the ball 16 times, he just did not look composed with the ball and his awareness was very questionable (holding the ball v Osborne, Kicking straight out of defence without looking, handballing without looking to team mate under pressure). I would like to see young Tyson Slattery finally get his chance in the seniors, but feel it is along way off. Same players will probably get mentioned here in Dempsey, Myers even Ricky Dyson (pending 2nds form).

Is it time we rested young Scott Gumbleton? Took a little while to get into the game tonight and even then looked a little slow and cumbersome. I would like to see him maybe have an extra week off, although thinking about it, they wont rest him, Essendon have a week off any ways.

These are probably the guys who are under the pressure the most.

Will give a report on the reserves match and some likely changes for our next match in a fortnight versus Adelaide.

A telling few weeks for the EFC in the lead up to a potential finals position.

Changes... Discuss??

Hello!

Tasty Pears has some suggestions...

Out:
Samuel "Fish Eggs" Lonergan - Find that he goes missing too much and believe that we have better players for his role.

Thomas "Should wear a long sleeve jumper like Laycock" Bellchambers - Unfortunately for Thomas, David will be raring to go after the break and his ability to rip apart an Adelaide backline will be essential.

Jake "Milkshake" Melksham - Definately improving, but I don't think he's required to beat an Adelaide outfit and would like him to be rested for the following three games that are all winnable but knowing us will be a challenge.

Henry "Always Shits Me" Slattery - I don't think we need Henry and Spike in the same team - And Spike is better. Spike can take out a small forward and Henry is too slow in the midfield. I'd rather have a stronger ball winner.

In:
David "Jones" Myers - I truly believe that Jonesy gets better every game and I think we have to persist with him in the big league. He won't improve too much in the 2s so get him learning as he's an important player for the future.

David "David" Hille - Pretty obvious.

Courteney "Emu" Dempsey - Need that speed. Need that freaking speed.

Angus "Gus" Monfries - He knows where to lead and can deliver well. We just need some consitency in that forward line so they know how to play with each other. That's why Hille is so important as when he floats forward often Gumbleton finds space with less defensive attention on him.

As they say Tasty Pears doesn't know everything but he likes to give some ideas...Go Tasty!

Agree with your call about Gumbleton.

Probably needs to play for Bendigo the next four or five weeks - And dominate at that level.

Atkinson was defensively sound but it was his worst game for decision making.

Lonergan played his best game in the last 4 but probably is under pressure to retain his position in the team.

You know that Hille and Monfries will return - which means two certain out - One will be Bellchambers.

Could be up to 4 changes.

Bellchambers had a good game, but Hille is Hille, so bad luck to him.

As for Lonergan and Atkinson... see every comment I've ever said about them. Dempsey and Myers instead and we'd have won last night.

Maybe give Dyson a run in Slattery's role, or just put McVeigh back there and bring T. Slattery in.

I'd keep Gumby and Melksham in, given we have a break next week.

With the season all but done, we need to to try some players so we can make some decisions on our future:

  • Play Dempsey across half forward and wing
  • Bring in T slattery and give him 3/4 games
  • Elevate Muscles and try him as a inside mid
  • Try playing Myers in the middle with Jobe and see if we can improve our clearences (smashed last two weeks)
  • Give Darcy a go!

Youd think Bellchambers will make way for Hille, and Lonergan should get replaced by Monfires. Id prefer Dempsey over Atkinson, and Id leave Gumby out - his form has tapered off a bit and he was poor against the Hawks - bring in the pacey Reimers.Wouldnt mind seeing a line up like this against Crows:

Fletch Pears Hocking
Dempsey Hooker McVeigh
Prismall Watson Stanton
Zaharakis Ryder Davey
Jetta Hurley Reimers

Hille Winders Welsh

NLM Monfries Melksham H.Slat

Those not named in side include Gumby, Dyson, Howlett, Myers, Atkinson, Lonergan & Bellchambers - and I wouldnt be suprised if any of these guys get a run depending on what selectors want to do.

In two weeks I want to see Hille, Neagle, Dempsey back in the team.

INs:
Hille - It's actually a no-brainer and it's unfortunate for Bellchambers.
Neagle - I've heard Neagle has gotten into shape and seems fit, I reckon if Gumby needs a rest and Neagle is in shape, we should give him a go. Neagle would fit as a Full Forward, so we could test Hurley as an CHF.
Dempsey - Essential to our backline, our backline today just didn't look right. Atkinson got owned in the overhead and he was playing Dempsey's position.
Myers - to take Lonergans role, doesn't do enough in the midfield.

OUT:
Bellchambers - Played a great game, will be in our team in a few years, but now, is unlucky.
Gumbleton - Needs a break to regain some confidence
Atkinson - Out for Dempsey.
Lonergan

I don't think Gumby needs an extra break. The split round should be enough.

What I would like to see is for Lloyd to have a talk with him about his goal kicking. When he kicks from outside 35m he leans back on it and it sprays to the right. 2 weeks of solid goal kicking practise should walk. (Lloyd could also teach him how to throw the grass)

Knights said in the presser that Gumby would probably be rested at some stage. That it was never the plan to play him for 13 straight. Probably worthwhile resting him for a week and give Neagle one last go.

I would just make the obvious changes for Adelaide (so in Monfries, Hille, Dempsey and Reimers) and see if we can win some winnable games coming up. If it looks like we're certainly out of finals contention then bring in Muscles and T.Slattery and perhaps Quinn, and find out which players are part of our future.

As people have alluded to, hille and monfries will walk in. Depending on the bendigo game i would bring dempsey and myers back in also. The outs i would have lonergan, belly, slattery(please god) and atkinson

I would line up something like:

Mcveigh Pears Hocking
Dempsey Hooker Fletcher
Prismall Watson Stanton
Winderlich Gumby Monfries
Davey Hurley Hille
Ryder Myers Welsh
Hille NLM Davey melksham

If williams bags a few today or reimers and they rest gumby i would move hurley to chf and bring in one of those 2 to play deep forward with the resting ruckman.
Lovett Murray had a nice game but would like more from him.
Surely knights sees what we all see with slattery now, he is no good! cant lock down, cant dispose..useless!

I think something like
Out:Atko, Lonergan, Melksham, Slatts
In: Myers, Hille, Gus, Reimers/dempsey (depense on vfl form)

And on the gumby dropping idea.... Its crazy would send my SC team in to shambles

Ins:

Hille
Dempsey
Monfries

Out:

Bellchambers - Hille is better
Lonergan - Monfries is better
Slattery - Don't like him, McVeigh and Hocking in the one backline, and I think he's the weakest. Dempsey gives us something different and is simply a better player.

Would read again. 5 Stars.

This seems about right. Would also like to squeeze in Myers after his 'freshen up.

Hille and Monfries are definites to come back in, Bellchambers and Lonergan should make way for them. Houli, Myers, Tyson Slattery or Dempsey in for Hank. Neagle, Williams or Darcy in for Gumby, a couple of weeks in the VFL won't hurt him.

Kudos to the three ruckman idea
Belly showed he can take a grab. The other two need no justification to be allowed to rotate forward
It may not work, but if they rest gumby and Neagle isnt in favour, why not?

My post-game, pre-VFL game thoughts are:

In: T. Slattery, Monfries, Dempsey, Neagle, Hille

Out: H. Slattery, Lonergan, Atkinson, Gumbleton, Bellchambers.

- H.Slattery is just not as good as McVeigh in the back-half. I don't want to see Hocking, McVeigh and Hank all playing at the moment. Part of this decision is also to make room for a taller, defensive-minded player in his namesake Tyson Slattery. In his second year now, been showing good VFL form, needs to play seniors and show what he has got. I also don't think we'd be losing too much with this change, with potential to gain quite abit.

- Lonergan just doesn't do enough, in the midfield or when he is forward. Yes, he kicked two goals last night, but it was simply a matter of right place, right time. Monfries is an automatic inclusion at his expense.

- I really, really, REALLY don't rate Atkinson. Yes, he's quick, but I feel playing Dempsey is far more beneficial for our team in the long run. He has his defensive problems, which I hope he addresses in the game for Bendigo. I feel with a backline consisting of Pears, Hooker, Fletcher, T.Slattery, Hocking and McVeigh, Dempseý's unaccountability would not be so glaring and would be given licence to tear the game open.

- Give Gumby a rest, and bring in Neagle playing the true FF position. Plant Hurls at CHF, and see how these two go in tandem. Need to know if Neagle is up to it or not. Some major list management issues to address come years end, and making him plod away in the VFL is not going to benefit our decision making.

- Belly I've always rated. Has some massive potential. He will know he is behind Hille and Ryder and with Hille coming back in, he has to go back and bide his time. I don't think it will dent his confidence at all. If anything, the self-belief will be there knowing he can perform on the big stage.

I'm not worried about credibility tbh, but Welsh should never have come into the side. We are simply a worse side with him in. Myers should not have been dropped.

Sounds like "The Prismal Code" to me..

Get named in the best (for his job well done on Hodge) and duly get dropped?

Myers is not a tagger, so why would we drop our tagger and bring in Myers who plays what position exactly?
