Looking like Adelaide in the qualifying final for us. Given that Hardwick made a subtle dig about home town decisions by the umpires in the Port game and given the dream run Adelaide got from the umpires against us, hopefully the umpires will be more gun shy about paying them frees in the final.

Hope is that we get a fair go from the umpires next time.
Fly should come out next week and ask for "clarification" from the umpiring department about the umpiring in Adelaide , that always works a charm

No player allows us to use the weapon of DC’s marking either fwd or back for extended periods other than Cox. Without Cox we are too uncompetitive in the Ruck to allow DC to be used is this way.
That’s the value of Cox over McStay.
They don't get it.

It's not Cox per say that some of us are pushing for selection. Some of us see a glaring weakness in the ruck department with McStay and Pies are smashed at stoppages because of such a weak ruck option. Had Pies have another tall player who can ruck and also spot minutes at forward to draw tall defenders, then so be it. It doesn't have to be Cox. McStay is simply an awful ruck who looks very scared in going up hard winning the taps.

Except there’s a 50/50 chance we’ll get the exact same 4 umpires in the QF.

Agree. So many want to say Fly made a big boo-boo by saying we only needed 14 wins to qualify and that was the reason for our drop off.

Well I clearly remember him also saying finals are the start of a new season, we start again...and it's played in Spring, which is different to Winter footy. (Or something along those lines)
The 2002 season was very similar in the way it ended. We were horribly out of form after being near the top most of the year. I think our last couple of games were against mid table sides. Anyway we got the 4 points in a tight one at the G and then were given no hope in the qualifying final over in Adelaide against Port.

We also lost Buckley to a hamstring injury.
What a game that was! We flicked the switch and knocked off Port in a tight, unforgettable game and then beat Adelaide in the prelim at the G in front of the loudest crowd I've ever heard.

Then we almost achieved a miracle but we were robbed by a blind goal umpire and gutless field umpire.

But that's a story for another day.

Anything can happy once finals start.

Completely different type of pressure, which is our strong point.

We sure do need him. Unfortunately that bulldogs supporter that came on our site ages ago with news that Bobby won’t play again this season and got hammered for it may be right. Unless we count that 1/4 where he was a sub.
Unless you discount the thing which proves him completely wrong, he's right?

So just to “clarify”, if we bring in Brett Favre to chuck the ball 60 metres to McStay, that would be a free kick against us, yes?

And if one of their players takes a mark, you’re saying we CAN’T then just tackle them to stop them moving the ball on? Fascinating!!

On exposed form over a month or more Dan has done nothing. Clearly Cox offers more than that.
It’s not clear at all.
Cox will get more hit outs than McStay but is behind in every other stat.

Yeah I’m also conflicted if I’m honest.

Great to see the big guy playing well but we’ve been burned before, and I also wonder whether we maintain the team as much as possible. McStay was better in the 4th I thought.

That's my boy. He was second best last week too. Selection integrity Craig! No more chances. Dan can go back or be the sub.
McRae and the club will select the best team available in two weeks. Training form will mean more than the VFL loss today.

McStay must be in Coleman Medal form on the training track every week. I'd think form in actual games counts for something. I'm almost certain they have put a line through Coxy's name but that doesn't make it right. This is the kind of situation which happens all the time but understandably leads to bitterness and tension. When a player is a coach's favourite for whatever the reason and fails to fire a shot for weeks on end without ever being dropped, you can understand the resentment this would create.

It’s pretty simple.

The post season starts on Monday. Our squad will train hard. The team will be selected from the guys who the coaches believe will give us the best chance of winning.

Today’s VFL game is not likely to factor high in the considerations.

It doesn't lead to bitterness and tension, the leadership group would be all over it. The fact is that McStay is in bad form but the alternative, which is Cox, is in worse form. I reckon Cox would be playing if they thought he was a better option

I think he'll slyly reference it and the Port vs Suns umpiring in his mid-week presser whilst pretending he's just talking about playing in Adelaide.

You keep saying that and commentators keep saying he is in our best every week over the past three weeks. The game before this one Cox had 8 marks and 22 possessions and kicked a goal and you said he was worse than a statue. It is you who has an immovable attitude regardless of form. When one player is struggling to touch the ball, and an alternative is playing good footy, then the alternative deserves serious consideration rather than a dismissive wave of the hand no matter what he does in the VFL.
