I think Sullivan. I noticed he didn't really participate in match him.

I dont like Long playing forward, I think it. defeats the purpose of his strengths around the contest, but I get its an experimental thing to see what Mitchell can do for a week.

Longy although a beast is still a young lad. It wouldn't do him any harm to spend a bit more time forward for a week or 2, rather than the constant crash and bash role that he has played all season. We do have a bit of a luxury with our ladder position that we can manage players in their gameday role so they're cherry ripe come the end of the season.

He has been good but he's only played 27 games total. It's not like he's been our stalwart inside mid for years. Giving him another rotation might not be the worst idea

Plus, he has the attributes to do well across half forward. Hard as nails and blokes like Hollands will shit their dacks if caught in a tackle by him.

He's also shown a knack for the big sticks, despite his awkward kicking style.

Just a thought, what if, Roan coming in to replace Ed Allan.
Not likely but just a thought.

Ed has locked in that wing role for now. If we get all our troops back then his position might come under question. Would be great to see him continue to grow in that role over the next month. His size and running power is perfectly suited to the wing.

Thanks for that.

People get all antsy about this topic but it would seem strange if he's right to train but not to play.
People get antsy because it’s a personal matter that shouldn’t be speculated on.

No one has speculated on the exact personal issue. It's a discussion about a player returning to train and to potentially play on Fri night.
The coach said it’s a day to day proposition. End of story.

My team

7 defenders - Moore IQ Maynard Howe J Daicos Houston Perryman

7 forwards - McStay Membrey Mihocek Hill Sullivan Elliott Lipinski

Ruck and mids- DC Pendles Long Nick Titch

Wings -Allan Crisp R Steele

Utility - WHE

Ok, well make sure you pull up anyone else that makes comment on Bobby in this thread.
I’m not pulling you up, just clarifying your query about it being strange he can train but not play. If it’s a day to day proposition, as the coach clarified, it’s perfectly reasonable that Hill might be able to train but not play.

I'm glad Friday looks dry at this stage, it will give our MMM forwards a clean go at it while the blues defenders are undermanned, fingers crossed Bobby is in the frame of mind to play as losing a tall and adding his pace and pressure will be huge for us for our structure

He looks really good around half forward as he always gets a contested possession and manages to keep hands free to dispose
I think I heard the guy from champion data say contested ball gets around half forward are almost the most important stat in today’s game

Long being forward might mean they are wary of the lost forward tackling pressure from Schultz and Beau and Hill when not available.

While he is not quick if he is near an opponent in congestion he will tackle them hard. And he will chase to the best of his ability.

Mitchell coming in needed us to shuffle but I’m sure they will split time (Mitchell more bench than forward)

Who's spot in the midfield is he taking? Naicos, Pendles, Long, Crisp?? Titch deserves a crack to replace Sidey. HDM is developing his game perfectly in the 2's. His time will come from 2026 onwards. If he keeps up his current form then it wouldn't surprise to see him debut in the final 4-6 weeks of this season, pending we've locked away top 2 and manage the old campaigners.

Ro Steele is clearly the right option this week due to the absence of our half forwards - Shoota, Beau and possibly Bobby.
Not sure I agree HDM is developing perfectly.
How do you figure his extremely heavy reliance on his left side, poor decision making and disposal resulting turnovers, help his case for senior selection?
Sadly I don’t see him making it.

By the looks of it this Steel player love him looks very much the same type of player as West.
Kind of like to plays up forward.
Handy high half forward and plays wing but plays half forward as well.
Best thing he loves a goal.
Got great goal sense.
Could be the player to cover for West.
Seams he starts on the wing then works into the forward line.
He looks the goods.
Weather going to be a clear crisp night at the MCG a cool light breezes.
Nice conditions.
Bit dewy on the deck.
But cool and crisp is the theme.
Pies win by 28 points.

With Mckay not playing then there is no logical match up for Dean this week. The Blues will have to go more mobile which means Bruz in for Chaz is a no brainer.
I would actually play Dean on Curnow to really test him out knowing he can always switch if it gets ugly.
It’s time for Dean to prove himself, against a high quality opponent.

Bobby should be allowed lots of freedom to do whatever he has to do
Just hope it all works out well for him and he’s happy and back playing asap

De Goey
Schultz
Sidebottom
Frampton
Beau

Hill

Or are we not counting Sidebottom because he’s sick rather than injured?
Good shout I didn’t count Steele because I went by the injury list. I think it would also add another to the list of Carlton outs as well (Hollands). They’re severely depleted this week.

Don’t think so. Would be cruel to drop Ed for a debutant. He’s been playing well
What if, Ed wants to leave and go back to WA, there is interest in him from there.
Then trying Roan in that position would make sense, if he can play well there, then he could replace Ed if he goes.
If Roan plays well there, then it would be a no brainer to extend his contract, he's only on 6 months, right?
Not wanting Ed to go but if he does, then we'd be ok without having to rely on the draft to replace him.
These are just thoughts ..... :)

Ed's not going anywhere. Why would he? Been living with his brother in melb. He isn't home sick. He is playing.
Roan is on a 6 month contract. He is ready to go. We have injuries, and he is trying to prove himself. Its not one or the other.

I’m not so sure about the Dean to Curnow call, but this one I do endorse. He’s getting a lot more of it the past 8 weeks, but I’m not convinced he’s doing all that much with it nor does he look to be playing senior footy with the hack kicks from contest.

Because he gets offered 5 years at $800k pa by WC 🤷‍♂️
