At worst he would still have been very good depth for them. He's only 30. In hindsight it looks a weird move.
If they told him "Look you're probably going to be depth next year" and he said "i'd rather be delisted than play VFL" it would make sense.

Not just Saints though, the whole thing is wierd.
He was an unrestriced FA. How did he not get signed by anyone during trade week? Not even we were interested enough then.
Telling that to the bloke who came second in your goalkicking? Classic Ross.If they told him "Look you're probably going to be depth next year" and he said "i'd rather be delisted than play VFL" it would make sense.

Definitely a better team. The fact that Membrey is capable of 80% game time instead of having one player sit their arse on the bench for half the game is extremely valuable in and of itself.
Why do you think there was such a difference in TOG%
We won and we had the better playersHow did the scoreboard go against the Dogs?

Cause Membrey was playing the Mihocek role? Cox played most of last year at 67% or higher.
I’m not bothered because I know by the end of the year Cox will be back in our best 22 again.
You know? What I know is 7 out of 16 games does not equal "most".Could it also be he was knocked out? Membrey was on the group for an extra 50 minutes and had the same stats as Cox.

I believe I mentioned that he went off before match sim on sunday. My friend then told me she saw him post session who had his nose taped up, wasn't happy about being sent home. So we assumed it was a broken nose or something.Expecting Cripps to do his usual 'run-at-the-man-and-chuck-the-ball-out' routine at stoppages (where somehow he is never penalised?!?) so I don't think having someone tag him is going to be as effective.
It's usually the next link in the chain that we need to worry about - Walsh, Hewitt, even Motlop. I'd rather pressure the ball receiver with body pressure and allow Cripps to be crimped by whoever is closest.
Defensive mindset needed, too, at ball-ups with DK likely to give Darcy C some headaches. I think he'll worry Cox, too, as big Mason finds it harder to win if he doesn't protect the ball drop. Very happy for Long to be present as he is currently #1 for pressuring/tackles.
Who knew Houston had a broken nose?!? They kept that quiet.
Looking forward to team selection tonight... will be a tough one.
This is just the way it is with Cox under Fly. 67% TOG last season, 66% the year before. I imagine there is some noise there from injuries/subs, but nonetheless he is generally off for big chunksWhy do you think there was such a difference in TOG%
He's good for the forwardline if we're in slow mode. Gives us that bomb to the pack target and makes us dangerous at forward 50 stoppage where his ruckwork is very good. If we're moving it quickly - nah. so he sits down for a lot of it.This is just the way it is with Cox under Fly. 67% TOG last season, 66% the year before. Going by training, thats not the plan. He trained in the same forward line as mcstay and membrey this week.Mihocek in to defence to replace McInnes, keep Cox [emoji106]

Yeah it'll never happen, would like to see that though [emoji53]Going by training, thats not the plan. He trained in the same forward line as mcstay and membrey this week.

I’d rather Elliott humming in September than April and if the fitness team feel this is the best path forward I’ll get behind it. If not so be it.
It’s a big challenge this week because as we get closer the anxiety is ratcheting up around Carlton’s position in the season which is well OTT given their strong % relative to losses (McClure suggested they’re in a worse spot than Melbourne on FC last night). For me the thinking is there’s an element of smash in early to give them no mercy, but I think there’s real value to be had from the sub this week because at best I’m anticipating it’ll be close and more likely we’ll be chasing the game.
If we’re chasing it I’d rather be bringing Elliott into the contest in the 3rd Q than Long for example. I don’t envy the work that’ll go into this one psychologically because there will be a backs to the wall spike from Carlton and how you handle that as an opposition brings with it a different challenge to most weeks.
