Definitely a better team. The fact that Membrey is capable of 80% game time instead of having one player sit their arse on the bench for half the game is extremely valuable in and of itself.

Could it also be he was knocked out? Membrey was on the group for an extra 50 minutes and had the same stats as Cox.

Why do you think there was such a difference in TOG%

Cause Membrey was playing the Mihocek role? Cox played most of last year at 67% or higher.

I’m not bothered because I know by the end of the year Cox will be back in our best 22 again.

More likely because Lobb was just sagging off him and dominating.

The point is Cox played low minutes last couple of years too. Early season, I think Coxy's impact on rotations and ground coverage is an issue whereby we'd prefer the others. I'd be betting on us not having all 4 fit every week, so the opportunities will come - who knows whether they'll all be fit at the end and which way we'll lean if they are - I'd be betting against Mason though.

Against Rich is pre-season and again against Port in the real thing, MMM has looked the most potent set of key forwards that we’ve had in years.

I believe our coaches will want to stick with it for an extended period to help them to gel even more. Accordingly I’ll be really surprised if any of MMM are dropped for Cox this week.

You know? What I know is 7 out of 16 games does not equal "most".

Expecting Cripps to do his usual 'run-at-the-man-and-chuck-the-ball-out' routine at stoppages (where somehow he is never penalised?!?) so I don't think having someone tag him is going to be as effective.

It's usually the next link in the chain that we need to worry about - Walsh, Hewitt, even Motlop. I'd rather pressure the ball receiver with body pressure and allow Cripps to be crimped by whoever is closest.

Defensive mindset needed, too, at ball-ups with DK likely to give Darcy C some headaches. I think he'll worry Cox, too, as big Mason finds it harder to win if he doesn't protect the ball drop. Very happy for Long to be present as he is currently #1 for pressuring/tackles.

Who knew Houston had a broken nose?!? They kept that quiet.

Looking forward to team selection tonight... will be a tough one.

I believe I mentioned that he went off before match sim on sunday. My friend then told me she saw him post session who had his nose taped up, wasn't happy about being sent home. So we assumed it was a broken nose or something.

This is just the way it is with Cox under Fly. 67% TOG last season, 66% the year before. I imagine there is some noise there from injuries/subs, but nonetheless he is generally off for big chunks

He's good for the forwardline if we're in slow mode. Gives us that bomb to the pack target and makes us dangerous at forward 50 stoppage where his ruckwork is very good. If we're moving it quickly - nah. so he sits down for a lot of it.

My bad, I looked at 2023, the year we won our premiership. He played at least 67% in most games that year.

In 2024, 65% or more - 11/16 games. He played 66% & 67% in 3 games themselves.

We have gone 40-2-10 since the Cameron & Cox duo from R10 2022. I’ll stick with the 76% win rate combo.

Because it happened on Sunday.

Fly on the ruck battle

DC V TDK

MICK McGUANE: Darcy Cameron is a bit underestimated, how important has he been?

CM: You make business decisions to move Brodie Grundy on, and it opens the roof to let Darcy Cameron grow. We believe in Darcy, and I think he believes in himself more than ever. He is such an infectious character, every locker room has one. He makes everyone smile. He has really sticky hands. Right now he is playing as good as he has ever played.

MM: That ruck battle will be big, given Tom De Koning’s form?

CM: They are different players. De Koning’s contest to contest stuff and energy around the ball is great. He is an elite midfielder.

MM: It could be a potential threat to overcome if he is pushing forward?

CM: No doubt. Hopefully we will have a few (threats) of our own.

I’d rather Elliott humming in September than April and if the fitness team feel this is the best path forward I’ll get behind it. If not so be it.

It’s a big challenge this week because as we get closer the anxiety is ratcheting up around Carlton’s position in the season which is well OTT given their strong % relative to losses (McClure suggested they’re in a worse spot than Melbourne on FC last night 🤯). For me the thinking is there’s an element of smash in early to give them no mercy, but I think there’s real value to be had from the sub this week because at best I’m anticipating it’ll be close and more likely we’ll be chasing the game.

If we’re chasing it I’d rather be bringing Elliott into the contest in the 3rd Q than Long for example. I don’t envy the work that’ll go into this one psychologically because there will be a backs to the wall spike from Carlton and how you handle that as an opposition brings with it a different challenge to most weeks.

McClure is a moron.

One second he thinks they'll win the flag.

Next minute, the sky is falling.

Mind blowing how he has any role in the media. Oh yes, Daddy.

I'm expecting Curnow to get 2 or 3 frees 25m out dead in front...
