I love Varcoe but doesn't do enough, terrible in the air.
Bring in Daicos to play his role.
That ain’t gonna happen.

Weekend Wrap and "Liked, Learned, Hated" right here -- How did tipping go?

No Chance Daicos comes in. He was close IF not the WOG in the VFL
I'm getting old, so I often feel like that.I'm a little nervous Cox may struggle to get up this week.

But like any good big man, you got there at the end.I'm getting old, so I often feel like that.
In: Arya Stark
Out: take your pick.
If we had Arya Stark we’d win the lot.
That girl, she kicks goals like nobody.
Daicos has gone backwards. He’s not going to get a senior game the way he’s is going in the vfl.I love Varcoe but doesn't do enough, terrible in the air.

Appreciate your views on IQ, he sounds exciting. I disagree that Essendon opened us up though. We had 9 more inside 50s and took a whopping 14 marks inside 50, they only had 7. Truth is we should have won by 5 goals if we kick straight. We let them back in because of our poor conversion from set shots.Elliot and Aish are good to go.
Wells hardly trained, Wills left the track with the VFL squad and Quaynor didn't train. Two changes is enough for this week. Having said that, Quaynor is exactly what we are lacking. Essendon opened us up in the second half and one of the factors was Saad's run and dare. Quaynor has this in spades. He'll be a good second half year addition, at the expense of??? Sier has had a horrid start and it was predictable. Whether he can get it together this year remains to be seen; we certainly need his toughness around the clearances.
Spot on Jmac poor kicking for goal is bad football. Everything looks worse when your forwards are spraying them, if you add to that teams are so much better in transition from defense to attack now it can be catastrophic.Appreciate your views on IQ, he sounds exciting. The power of our '10 flag side was the ability to lock the ball into our forward line for large chunks of the time and then when the ball did come out it was always under intense pressure. This usually resulted in opposition turnovers coming out of defense or at the very least 50/50 contests where we had the chance to kill the run and reset our mids back.
Grundy is such a powerhouse that the rest of the league knows he will savage most rucks in the contest so they have set their midfield to rove to his tap and be defensive in their setups so get a Wills/Sier type in with Tay and reset our running mids more defensively and we win more clearances. Get the ball from there to our better users and lower our eyes going into forward 50 gets us threatening penetration into the forward line which stops opposition mids from zoning off.
From there with Cox, Elliott, DeGoo and the rest we have a wealth of dangerous targets but they need to work smarter together and for each other and instantly switch to defenders once the ball is in dispute at ground level.
We have the personnel but our implementation this year has been very poor.
Sort those issues and watch the free count for us go up and up as the opposition panics.
I saw the game differently. From the end of the 2nd they got on top and dictated the play. We adjusted in the last and played much better.Appreciate your views on IQ, he sounds exciting. I would be loathe to drag Q upfield as that has been his football nursery position where he is comfortable and most confident.Went to the game Thursday beingbinterstate don’t get too see a lot of vfl etc
Would it be crazy to try Atu or Quaynor in Varcoe forward pressure role. He hurts us when balls in the air. Or goldy decent in air , quick and hard

Post Game, I think it was Steele that said that for some of the game, they got pulled into playing Essendon's way, and they lacked their own game plan. Just as we got pulled into Geelong's style and Eagles. Got to stop letting them do that. Got to play it on our terms.I saw the game differently. I said to the people I was watching with, that the game looked a carbon copy of the GF......well except for the end result. I thought we were beaten around the ball and then they were allowed to play their own brand of footy. I think we have a top midfield and against most teams it will serve us well, but against real speed where teams take us on through the corridor (as Essendon did), then we have issues.
It's a tinkering thing for us, but we will need to fix it. I bet our coaching panel had this is their No.1 on their post match review list.
To me it's pretty straight forward - Elliott back in. He and Stephenson alternating between deep forward and Varcoe's role should be able to apply just as much pressure with much cleaner ball handling.

Well we are certainly capable of dominating for a period, the next step is to maintain that dominance for longer. It’s actually by biggest concern of our forwards , we don’t seem to lay as many tackles as in the past our first quarter was amazing essendons backs were proper rattled but it faded and faded quickly

The key as Jen said is to be aware when we are being seduced away from our own game plan.
Another area to address is the ability to have flexibility in that game plan, have some alternate players for when one of our players is being beaten and NOT being afraid to implement that switch.
I'll repeat againEvery list has weaknesses.
Yet here is your weak list and it’s sitting third. A list that made the GF.
A list that has: Grundy, De Goey, Treloar, Moore, Beams, Elliott, Wells, Langdon, Pendlebury, Adams, Sidebottom, Crisp, Hoskin-Elliott... there’s a bit to work with.
We have strengths in the group of players and non strengths.
Amongst all that, like all teams is the salary cap, contract status, free agency etc.
For your love of Wills, someone else prefers Thomas.
Neither is A grade.
One is more established and better credentialed, on displayed career output.
Who knows maybe your Wills will be the saviour. First he’s got to get a game.
I do wish him well, but so far he’s done so much less than Thomas.
I’m not sure he ever gets there.
I take it you have never arisen early to see the dawn . . .I'll repeat again
You don't get to see how good someone's going playing at williamstown on a wet windy day
Players improve playing against and with better players
Wills I agree ain't the answer but whilst seirs out and Mayne I think he should be given an opportunity
Reid deserves one too
The best 22 is always reliant opinion
To think at best output
Maynard roughy Howe
Crisp Moore shaz
Wells seir. Mayne
Degoey cox whe
Stepho. Checkers Elliott
Grundy pendels Adams
Beams. Treleor. Langdon sidey
Who misses out for
Thomas
Brown
Greenwood
Aish
Phillips
Reid
I'm intrigued any thoughts
2 kicks from losing against the bottom 14 the team
Lose that finish 5th
Maybe a straight exit
We lost to a team with 6 or 7 new players round 1 who are now better with continuity
We beat Richmond who didn't turn up
Flogged by west coast ( how they going)
Fell in against dogs who aren't flying
Pumped Brisbane and fell in against dons
All games have shown we're getting there but there's a bit missing
I wouldn't be getting too excited
