Out- Will McLachlan.

In- Callum Ah Chee.

The only other possible ins I can envision are McInerney for Fort and Gardiner for ?

I just realised no matter what happens in round 16 while we are on sabbatical we will still retain 2nd place.... however with the Pies playing the Eagles next weekend they will be 10 points clear on top of the ladder.

Talking points re the remainder of the season could be >

1- Who goes out for Kiddy when he is ready, will definitely improve us if back to his best.
2- Is Doedee worth a try in seniors or only if there is an injury, wait till 2026?
3- Beecken, McCarthy, Reville?
4- Will Joyce come into the side at any time as the Payne replacement v bigger sides eg Crows or is Lester our 2nd tall defender?

McLachlan has something. I wish we could get him in for a stint of games.

He just needs to be cleaner. Fumbled it in the worst possible times on Friday night. Clearly has talent though.

All part of his development at that level. Would be of great help to him to get a stint of games imo. At worst, we have something there if there is an injury to a small.

Reminder: still looking for a preview writer for this week (and a few coming up thereafter)!

Edit: Tom14 has put his hand up!

As it’s the last time we might play Port I’d love to prepare a preview paying tribute to Kenny. But I’ll leave it to someone else to do the honours
If we get no responses, I'd threaten to put up a preview containing only an image of a tarp but that's probably providing a perverse incentive.

I would love a player to honour him and pretend to be a plane after they kick the final goal of the game. Anyone have Lenny Kravitz fly away as their goal song?

Given how good (and quick) our defence looked on Saturday, i think the door is now open for Doedee.

I think he deserves a go vs Port to try to see if it works.

Theory would:

Harris takes the best key forward or tallest key forward

Lester takes the next best / tallest

Doedee plays on the least threatening tall, and has some licence to intercept - which is his main asset.

I think we need Dizzy if we are playing the suns, gws, crows, dogs or Carlton (only if Curnow and McKay are playing). I don't any other side we can counter with Harris, Lester and Doedee. Possibly even no Doedee and Starce as the third tall. Hawthorn did very well with a smaller defence than that last year.

Take Collingwood for example - they don't worry us in the air, but have so many scoring threats who are small to medium. They could do the Cox late in us the caveat!

I guess my overall point is Payne is a loss, but i think we need to pivot from it. No longer do we have 3 clear best KPD, we have 2 clear best KPD, and we should have an element of horses for courses.

I would like to see ZZ get a run against Port just for the experience. Back/ forward/ 2nd ruck.

He needs to develop other areas of his game though. Extremely one dimensional
His disposal stood out as rushed and below par compared to any of our other players imo.

It's not a knock per se ,most players need a few games to adjust to the tempo and what's required.

Not sure he's quite ready now though .

He’s 19. It’s ok to play some vfl.

This. Not to mention it was his second game of AFL. Everyone from Will to Logan has had quiet games and the half forward role at AFL level is hard at the best of times.

I think after recent drafting success and rortz we've started to get some really unrealistic views on how quickly drafted players can contribute.

Motty and Kai are now at the age when you usually expect players to start contributing, Will and Jaspa should be hitting that point but are already guns. Logan is one of the great outliers and Levi is clearly very good but has had his struggles in his debut season. Sam Marshall is probably playing VFL for the foreseeable future and that is ok.

With the exception of Logan all the other players are top 20 picks too, Will's a mid-season draftee who clearly has good potential but has stuff to work on. Kai's incredibly naturally talented but it took him 3 years to cement a spot and improve his all round game.

I would like to see us prioritising winning a premiership this year. For me that doesn’t involve giving players a run for the experience… that can come when it’s forced or they’ve shown exceptional form at VFL level.
