From comments by coaches before the game on Friday.

Ellis is cooked. Exhausted. So unless he freshened up a lot in a week, he's unlikely to play.

Griff missing was largely just playing safe, he is being viewed as a backman and there are no plans to move him back forward. They see him as someone who can take the resting ruckmen down back and exploit them going the other way.

They were also trying a few different things (nothing all that radical - Astbury forward, Nahas playing more as a defensive forward)

So, don't expect to see Ellis, or Griff playing forward (if at all).

NOOOO!!!! Worst news ever!!!!

Griff is a forward.

What a waste.

I'd like him forward, but his work down back has been impressive. Hard to know what's going on behind closed doors, but if he is staying down back with grimes/Rance/Chaplin down there too, it may indicate he feels or at home/comfortable as a backman (this is just me guessing though).

Not sure what he thinks matters nearly a much as what the coaches think.

I'm also wondering (pure speculation on my part) if they figure that playing down back will be easier on his body as he'd be much more likely to be the one initiating contact.

of course, but if he's a guy better at reading the play down back than up forward, that may make the coaches mind up

Having spoken directly to him on this exact matter (admittedly after only his second game this year) there was a hint of him liking the forward line like any young footballer - wanting the chance at glory of kicking the winning goals. But the real hunger and desire was to be out there playing football with the guys doing whatever he can to get us a win - if that means a backline role forever he was more than happy to take it. He knows, accepts and takes the responsibility for having the kicking ability to break up the kick out style and thus giving the team some edge over opposition. It may be that sort of thinking/flexibility that helps make him "right" for the backline role in the coaches eyes. From all this I was left feeling the chances of him going forward for the Tigers are slim. (If the ball is in his hands 55m out he'll be taking a shot though!!!)

I don't know, there comes a point when you realise that you just aint quite good enough for the elite level and no amount of grit , determination or whatever will change it. It is a horrible epiphany when it happens, but at least he's young enough that he hasn't devoted too many years to a lost cause.
I had the epiphany when I was 36, but stopped playing when I was 12, in my mind I could've been anything!

Maric to me looks exactly like the sort of fringe 'ranked' #25 - 30 player that we have had on our lists for 20 odd years.

Sorry Adam... I just have not seen anything! (Bar one good tackle... even that was a tackle that pretty much any AFL player should make)
