The thing that annoys me about Gus is that it's like playing with 17 people on the ground sometimes. He constantly goes to ground and these days it isn't good enough any more. He needs to keep his feet and contest the ball if he drops it or it's a poor kick. I'm sick of hm going to ground.

It annoys the hell out of me too.

Im starting to wonder whether its his boots or not.

I think its more due to the fact that more often than not he milks the free kick when he goes to ground. If the umpires catch on, I'm sure he'll quickly be able to eradicate it from his game.

Back on topic..... No doubt someone will probably pull up sore and make way for Hurley, so we won't need any axings. Given a few have mentioned Licha for possible omission this week anyway, I wonder whether they'll use the Nullabor trip as an added reason to rest up his back... or for that matter Gumby? Surely Gumby would be keen to impress in front of his home crowd though. Maybe we should all chip in and shout him a skybed for the long trip:

OUT: Lonergan, Houli
IN: Hurley, McVeigh

I'd play Mcveigh down back as he is more solid defensively than Houli and has far superior decision making and disposal skills.

I'd say Hurley is a definite in this week, with Davey also to come into consideration.

I can't see McVeigh or Monfries playing. It would be a massive risk to play either of them in any case given their preparation.

I think Lonergan and one of the debutants will be the most likely to give way. I can't see them dropping anybody else due to structural positions (i.e. drop a HBF for a CHF).

Ins: Hurley, Davey
Outs: Lonergan, Melksham/Colyer

It's a massive game for Winderlich who should love this ground.

I don't think Davey deserves a recall after just 1 Bendigo game. Needs to put in 2 to 3 performances like that to get a recall.

Form at Bendigo doesn't always translate to selection though. Ask Myers and Houli. Knights has his favourites. I'm certain they will take him with the squad though.

One change for mine:

IN: Hurley
OUT: Lonergan

Winning form is good form, we need to back the team in that beat Carlton and coincidentally its perhaps the best equipped team to play at Subiaco.

In saying that, had we played any other side except Richmond, we would've lost on Saturday night. We didn't play that well and need to improve 20% to beat WCE.

Funny you say that but I was very impressed with our second quarter - I thought we utterly dominated and should've kicked 6-7 goals and blown the game away by then.

Our forward line effeciency has cost us dearly in the first three weeks, I'm hoping Hurley is the silver bullet.

Can we spank these clowns please. If this game were in Melbourne I'd be backing us by 15 goals.

You're right we should've had the game iced at half time....but we didn't. It wasn't just missed chances with goal kicking but also disposal forward of the centre. If we do that against WCE this week we lose.

I think Hurley could be the missing ingrediant this week for us. I'm not worried about our backline at all. I think they are settled nicely. I'm worried about the rucks and our mids getting the ball inside 50 enough times and with enough quality to kick a winning score.

Fletch to LeCras this week. He did that last time and LeCras dragged him out to isolate the other defenders. They can do that now and it won't matter because Pears and Hooker are more than capable of winning one-on-one contests against their opponents. If we keep LeCras quiet we win.

You're right Boucks, poor delivery into the F50 is also killing us, like I said before, I hope Hurley's presence gives our mids more confidence to kick the ball quickly into the F50.

There was a thread posted on BBlitz - it basically sums up our statistics for season 2010:

"we are presently in the top 5 clubs in the comp for average; tackles(2), contested ball (1), 1st possession (4), clearances(4), 1% (3) and inside 50 (5)."
- ivan81

He got those stats from pro-stats, I don't know how accurate they are but surely there can't be that much of a variance from official AFL statistics.

I'm pleasantly surprised about our contested footy stats, especially first possessions. If we can fix up our F50 efficiency and disposal to our forwards then IMO we'll become very dangerous.

Re Monfries:

Then maybe John Williams is an undersized ruckman doing really, really well??
Very odd line of reasoning.
I regard him as being old enough to figure himself out and play more as a flanker and crumber under the talls.
He does lots of good things leading hard into space, but also does some silly stuff flying - taking his man with him - against our talls. He can crumb reasonably well, I just don't know why he doesn't do it more often.
It was really, really good to see Colyer naturally set himself to crumb - we lack that.

What I'm saying is that due to issues with our list, he's been forced to play CHF and has been doing well. Hopefully with Hurbleton in this week, he can be played on a wing or as a very high HFF, giving us another option out of defence.

BTG is correct. For example, listen to Knights' post match for the first defeat of Hawthorn last year. He admits that the roles he asks of Gus (i.e. the undersized CHF) is unfair but he was virtually in love with the ground Gus covered and his ability to hold our high forward structure together.

Need to win this game, if we do, bring on the ANZAC day game! Can't really think of to many changes to be made besides Hurley in, but who for? Mcveigh won't come back in, to underdone and hasn't exacly done much to warrant any instant selection. Monfries apparently is out so forget about him. Davey apparently played will for Bendigo, as did Atkinson. Would selecting them benefit more than leaving the current players in?

Part of the skills issue is not just kicking but having targets up the field that you can kick to without a second thought. We just have not had that over the last few weeks but it should start to improve over the coming weeks.

To illustrate my point, it was no surprise to see Carlton kick 4-5 out on the full in the 2nd quarter after Pears won multiple 1 on 1 contests in a row.

I hope lonergan stays in the team. He didn't have his best game, but his diversity and poise under pressure if good. If he could just get more of the ball, because when he gets he does well, and he is very capable around goals, and provides plenty of pressure.

If it comes to a choice between keeping one of Melksham and Colyer in the team I'm going to have to go with Colyer. 14 contested disposals is brilliant and hats off to the lad, but I really want to see some zip around the forward line and with no Davey it's only Reimers. Monfries and Lonergan must be the two slowest small players in the league.

When Monfries runs it looks like a ruckman trapped in a midget's body.

Ins: Hurley
Outs: Houli

Probably the only change I want to see at this stage, no disrespect to Houli, but I think we should persist with the 2 young fellas Melksham and Colyer, I think they'll be suited to the wide open spaces of Subi. I would like to see Howlett and Prismall back in the side as well not quite sure who you would drop, maybe Lonergan/Hocking.

Dont think Monfries is a lock in our best 22... just yet

I don't want to get on your bad side, but with all due respect, i respectfully and forcefully object to your opinion. One of the most important players and would be in my first 7 picked each and every week.

First time posting on my beloved bombers' board so dont wont to rub any fellow supporters up the wrong way. Saying that has anyone looked at WC's side and thought on possible match ups.. seeing though no one has here i go.

Priddis - Welsh great job last week welshy on murphy
kerr - lonergan will annoy the hell out of him and keep his poor form going
Lecras - Fletch just to negate his marking abilty
Kennedy/Lynch - Hooker/pears, both win the ball beautifully

Would include davey just to run at the feet of whichever of their rucks is playing back,
Nic Nat or Cox

Give winders a rest for a big one the next week bring in Howlett

Drop Houli, west coasts mosquito squad players will improve their pressure this week as they will be getting a drilling after their past performances, and houli hasn't shown he can deal with pressure, perceived or otherwise.

Bring in the big Gun.... Hurly, just plonk him at the top of the square give him space and quick ball in from the centre and watch him kick 8.

So in are
Hurley/Davey/Howlett
out
Winders/houli and one of colyer/melksham
sorry young guns....... would love to see ya play a lot more games

Big decision on monfries, but wasnt he carrying a niggling injury which was why he was out. no sources for this.

its now 2 in the morn so enough of this rant.
