Changes vs Adelaide.

These are the changes I would make if i were making the final call:

1. Dempsey - massive in !
2. Danhier - Belly out, Hooker & Ryder to ruck. Replaces backline Hooker. Can also play forward / wing to help mix it up if Knights is feeling sinister like I am...
3. Lucas - gained match fitness & touch at Bendigo. Hopefully with Lloyd, Neagle and Lucas in we have a functioning forward line...& be a handful for the Crows. Lets hope they practiced this senario.
4. Prizza - out Skippy (Prizza is heavier/taller/more skillful than Skippy & can play similar role)
5.Reimers - Out Monfries ( makes sense with Lucas in, he is faster and offers something
unpredictable. He is also completely nuts - which I love. Helps to address pace/skill loss of Windas) Sorry Gus - but you need a rest.

Alternatively Zaha could go out for Reimers, depending on final training session.

Houli can play a similar role to Slatts.

This is the extended bench:
David Zaharakis, Bachar Houli, Leroy Jetta, Hayden Skipworth, Tyson Slattery, Darcy Daniher, Scott Lucas
therefore 4 of these will play... and the other 3 will be emergencies.

Damn want to see Slattery and Daniher play

Assuming that's the case & Reimers / Prizza are locked. I still think DD & Lucas are in (I wasn't. 100% sure how it would work). Therefore
Skippy & ( either Zaha or Jetta )ommited. T Slatts never in the running.

Given the In's I never considered dropping Jetta however a case could be mounted for Zaha over Jetta although they are very different players. I think that Zaha gives a little more to the team. This is based not on stats but on my subjective reading. He also appears more polished, composed & comfortable at this level. Where as Jetta seems a bit rushed and at the moment less capable. Both have played across hf/fp this year - but Zaha had also played in other roles. Jetta is perhaps more gifted but I would take Zaha over him right now.

Does anyone else feel that Jetta may be dropped this week?

I think the ones i bolded will keep their spot. Houli was one of the best last week and will keep his spot. I think that Skipworth will play for sentimental reasons against his old club.

It is hard to judge the performances of Jetta and Zaharakis last week as we were comprehensively beaten. Jetta looked to be gaining some touch at the start of the game (briefly). Zaharakis has been steadily dropping off since his first game. If one were to come into the line up this week i think it would be Zaharkis that makes way. I'm not sure that both DD and Lucas would come in at once.

O'Donnell has dropped a hint that Lucas might be in the running for selection this week? anyone else see this happening?

Wouldn't suprise me if Lucas came in. Surely he must be finding it difficult to get any touch back playing for Bendigo who are getting thrashed every week. We know how good he can be if he ever gets back to his 2007 form.

I disgagree, sentimentality is only afforded after you play very well in more than 100 games for the Dons. Skippy simply aint in that field.

Further more Skippy is a similar player to Prizza, Mcveigh, Hocking & Lonergan who are all ready locked - why would we need him?

In addition from a team structure & game plan persective, I think we would lose too much by playing him over Zaha or Jetta who are pacier and have reasonble match fitness ( although I feel one of these will also be ommited with Skippy)

Finally Skippy's is gaining match fitness & his form has slipped from its great heights in round 1 where he managed 30 touches and a goal to an average of 15.3 disposals / 3 tackles / 0.3 goals in last three games - form that is solid but not good enough to hold the sentimental favour with the selectors you are suggesting.

http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/players/H/Hayden_Skipworth.html

My reading of Skippy's recruitment is that while he has a mature body, good skills & is both a good decsion maker an off field leader he is ultimately a good depth player, and due to waivering form / recent injury
& avaliability of better players he should make way for others - not as a direct swap but to allow the Lucas &or Danhiers to play. As I said before, he would be ommited with either Jetta or Zaha to allow Lucas & Darcy to play.

So my ins are

1. Dempsey -
2. Danhier - Help in defence due to ruck issues & replaces Hooker
3. Lucas -Gained match fitness & touch at Bendigo. Lets hope they practiced the Lloyd/Neagle/Lucas scenario.
4. Prizza - out Skippy (Prizza is heavier/taller/more skillful than Skippy & can play similar role) - Why have both in the team ?
5.Reimers - Out Jetta

Outs.
1. Windas
2. Belly
3. Slatts
4. Skippy
5. Jetta

Big changes, but we got smashed by the Cats & the In's are both forced and worthy changes.

No Daniher and Jetta still in.

If Hooker rucks for a resting Ryder, Daniher is needed to help down back.

If he doesn't play, we are going to be one tall to few down back & the Crows are tall. Thats my logic any way.

I dont want Jetta dropped either , but I can't love all of em all the time & we can't match the Crows talls with so many sub 190cm players in the team.

So how many tall Adelaide forwards can you name????

Potential Tall Crow forwards,

Stevens 194
Walker 190
Maric 198 resting ruckman
Moran 199 resting ruckman
Tippet 201 CHF / back up ruckman
Sellar 196 - Not sure if he would play though - dont know much about him

The Crows played 3 rucks for last two weeks ( Wins V. Blues by 44 pts & Hawks by 17 pts ) and Craig suggested this would remain for this week. Check out artilce below:

Sellar wont play. Maric doesnt rest forward, moran rests down back.

Taylor would be 186cm at best. Dont believe whats printed.

Stevens, would you really be worried???

Hooker and pears will play on the two talls, and anyone else with hieght can be countered by Adam Mcphee. i dont think we need to be concerned with Adelaides dangerous hieght.....

Taylor is taller than 186cm.

To clarify my position I am concerned more about our lack of height & assistance for Ryder than Adelaides dangerous hieght.

Under your plan who helps out Ryder in the Ruck & what do they do to plug the whole that this swap creates?

Courtney Dempsey would match Walker for CM's for sure.

B: Dempsey Pears McVeigh
HB: Stanton McPhee Hooker
C: Dyson Hocking Reimers
HF: Monfries Neagle Lovett
F: Davey Lloyd Lonergan
R: Ryder Watson Prismall
Int: Zaharakis Houli Lucas Skipworth

Emg: Jetta T.Slattery Daniher

Whats Lucas going to do this week?

I assume back.

Some big names coming in but surely we're too light in the back half and too forward heavy. Stanton has been named half back flank for the last two weeks, I can;t remember him playing there much last week so what is his role?

Maric does rest forward, it's the only place he ever rests apart from the bench, and he played some time in the goal square against the Blues and Hawks, admittedly without taking a mark.

Moran rests forward, but drifts back to fill the hole and run off half back when he's playing in the ruck.

Walker is most definitely 190+, that's my height, and having seen him in person he's not shorter than me.

If you're not worried about Scott Stevens, well that's your prerogative.

We're concerned about Maric versus Ryder in the ruck, since Maric has displayed an unwillingness to get off the ground in recent weeks. Moran has both the speed and endurance to go with Ryder around the ground and enough of a leap to make it a contest, even if he's lacking in other areas. Tippett has the endurance to go with him but without the speed and again a pretty good leap, but over matches him in strength. Maric though, any strength advantage in the ruck is negated by Ryder's leap, he lopes like a traditional ruckman, and he's not been in great form in the ruck or in the forward 50.
