No doubt Gus is a more well honed forward than Young but it's like he's become Malcom Ebert during his absence to some on here.
I'd have been happy if Gus was picked however as I think Young has a dodgy shoulder average form aside.

Gray averages about 15 pressure acts a game. Eddy about 8. So if Eddy can double his output he might get a sniff at selection. But he also likely has the fitness of first year player holding him back as well and prob needs another preseason under his belt to compete with the big boys.

Our game is built on repeat entries which is generated from our forward line. I also rate Gus much higher than Young right now.

Is young injured? From what I read it didn't seem to trouble him last week. But who knows. A fit young coming into the side isn't really melt worthy though.

We seen it all before with the selections on Kern's watch, ie a regular is eventually dropped after a number of poor games in the AFL, and is then reinstated after 1 or 2 average, to ordinary games at the Maggies.

Like many I would have preferred Monfries to Young, mainly to see how his natural forward nous could compliment Charlie, but it does appear that his 1 year contract could have been as much about a thank you for services rendered than it was about keeping him on the list as a genuine option.
Obviously time will tell us if that was the case.

Re Young, I can't recall who said it, but I agree that his loss of form may be connected to a lack of supply now that Charlie is holding onto a lot more marks.

Yeah? I never said he was the best forward in the league. I didn't even say he was the best forward in our side. He's just a better forward than Aaron Young at this stage of his career.

You essentially said Aaron Young isn't fit to tie Gus' bootlaces which is absurd. In all honesty Young probably had a better season last year than Monfries has had in his career

I actually agree that on exposed form Gus is the correct option, and Young's shoulder is toast for now anyway.

But to say Gus is a far better forward than Young is hugely overestimating him and his output imo. He was utter garbage in '15.

I hope you're right and it's as simple as that. I'd hate to see Eddy delisted without a proper shot at it.

People bemoan our lack of efficiency going forward and poor conversion on set shots.

Which of our forwards was actually drafted to play as a forward? Not Trengove, not Young, not Ah Chee, not Sam Gray, not Jarman Impey. Robbie Gray maybe but even he is a triple best and fairest winning midfielder. Charlie Dixon is the only player currently playing in our forward line who was picked to play AFL based on his prowess as a forward.

This is why Angus Monfries is so important. He's a natural forward who knows how to lead, knows where to run, knows how to kick goals. It's disappointing that we've finally got him fit and in form and yet refuse to play him.
