Very good question. I suspect McStay can’t. But you can’t tell from two weeks and you can’t make a judgement as good as the clubs because of their detailed knowledge. We have Checkers and Cox gone. We have Buller in and a couple of good young prospects. Action too quickly could impact players and team poorly. Our structure and game plan have both changed. Also old players start slow for a new season. There is a lot to resolve. I like slow and cautious cause I am.

No it's not. I think they're borderline players as I don't think they'd get a regular senior game for a lot of teams. Membrey has had a great career, but he's now bloody slow and was delisted two off seasons ago. McStay has had a good career too, but has always just had role player production and has had a long stretch of below par performance. And Buller is a 24 year old relative unknown with 11 games to his name - borderline is probably a compliment at this stage of his career.

Coll doesn’t have the best list but we are still hyper competitive.
A cohesive, aligned, well organized, and effective fwd group therefore doesn’t always need elite talent.
Inadequate opportunity to build cohesion with changes after 2 weeks, is a knee jerk action that undermines plans for an effective fwd structure lMO.

Not sure Howe's first game with a suspect calf should be at Marvel

With Moore playing, why not debut Cochrane given he would most likely be replacing Howe going forward

At least with Moore, Frampton, Maynard, Houston and Quaynor around him, he'll have all the support he could ask for and GWS aren't a super tall forward line

Well the stakes for this one have gone through the roof given we have confirmation of Howe and Moore’s availability, no one on the injury list and only Hill unavailable for selection! Against the NEAFL Giants with Brisbane to follow and then Fremantle it’s not one we can afford to drop if we want to be top 6 relevant come August.

Cochran played in the vfl game against north last week and by all reports was very quiet, I watched Jen’s video and barely sighted him. He can get a game when his form and our injuries warrant it

I don't expect Howe will make it through this game because ultimately, why would he? His calf has given him problems for at least 6 months so I don't see why it'll hold up to a game on the Marvel surface.

Given the defence is now at full strength with Moore back, why not give Howe more time to be absolutely certain he'll hold up?

think it’s worth a mention that we basically have a full list to choose from. The fitness department are to be commended compared to other teams lists.

I just don’t agree I’ve seen anything from Cochran in the pre season to suggest he should be playing right now. Was playing wing/flank in vfl last season and need to see him holding down a key post in the VFL before I’d promote him. If he plays well then I’m all for it.

To echo Stormy’s comments a time will come when the natural attrition of the season demands for kids to be exposed because simply put that’s all we have underneath. Until then we wait and hope it doesn’t arrive in spades because the talent amongst that group is on the thin side (by AFL standards). Rest assured you will get your fill of debutants and youth as the season wears on and then some…

The same thing was said last year but it didn't happen. Instead we kept selecting players with niggles rather than replace them with kids.

I look at McStay’s 23 PF performance- that’s the potential that requires continuing to persist with him. Injury has cursed his last 2 seasons, but he’s lost no athleticism since, hence my belief he can get back to that form.

One performance from 2.5 years ago is a bit less compelling

This will cause some melts on here. But it’s the right call. West hasn’t had any continuity of football, not ideal, but would be best for him to play a couple of VFL games before being promoted and destroyed on here.

End of the day we are blessed and full strength. That’s a good thing.

Yeah, fly talked about how they want him up and going and he hasnt played very much footy in the preseason with the byes and the like.
Looking forward to seeing him play and get some footy under his belt. I dont think it'll be long before we see him. He's now much fitter and injury free too.
