Moore and Howe will get the benefit of the early-season bye to fully recover ahead of round three. McInnes is still at least a fortnight away from returning from a knee reconstruction. Charlie West could be considered after a slow start to the season by Collingwood's three key forwards across the first fortnight.

Correct. ‘427 games without a suspension were exceptional and compelling circumstances.’
They still graded it as a bump though. I think it's ridiculous, the other bloke instigated the clash - not allowed to brace for contact?

It’s time to debut Steene. He would offer the same as Buller/Mcstay, and can develop his ruck game.
I'm barracking for the white team at training from now on - let's get rid of all the men in black.

Okay - so this is my preferred option for the forward line.

I have said previously i don't believe Cameron is an amazing tap ruckman from the middle. His strengths are his contested marking and around the ground ruck-work.

When it mattered last season, Cox was brought into the team to provide a focal point and provide a consistent ball drop for our smalls. It also helped out Checkers and McStay.

I would move Cameron to play significantly more up forward. Cameron has the height, is good at holding front position and is a great mark and has some forward craft from when he first started. Cameron does not get out marked that often so would bring the ball to ground as a worst case scenario.

McStay then becomes the second banana which suits him more. The third spot is then Buller/West (That should allow both a proper chance to succeed). That means dropping Membrey and bringing in Steene to ruck.

I would then have the remaining forwards as Schultz/Beau, Harrison/Sullivan, and Elliott/De Goey.

That way Moore and Howe can sure up the defence and get our intercept game going. I would only bring one of Moore and Howe for GWS. Too risky to play both imo from an injury perspective.

In: Steene, West, Moore
Out: Mcstay, Membrey, Ed

Steene to help DC out, West deserves a crack and Moore is a no brainer.

Mcstay has done nothing since the prelim in 2023, doesn’t think fast enough and can’t take contested marks.

Membrey looks lost half the time but if picking between Mcstay and Membrey I’d lean towards keeping Membrey.

Ed isn’t a winger, not sure why they keep trying it. Is only good game for us when he was on ball.

I think poor Charlie is going to be disappointed again.

No doubt we’ll go in with the same 3 lol.

Sadly I think that what will happen espically not played since Ballarat and won't in 2 weeks in VFL vs GWS

Doubt he be brought in Cold

My Opinion still the he Has/Should Play

Fly also he backs the Experience Players

Why is everyone Desperate to put Howe Forward?
A few reasons:
1) he has been effective there before, and we are desperate for some aerial presence
2) our current backline mix + Moore is on paper a really nice mix of aerial, ground, and rebound game styles
3) maybe he would get hurt less often

Both Oscar and Charlie are good in the air, Oscar might have a higher leap. THey can also both kick goals and Oscar could help DC out with the ruckwork.

We look lost in our forwardline, i think he's leadership would be invalueable in there and hopefully he'd snag a couple of goals too. If we keep our forwardline the same, i can't see things changing in 2 weeks.

McStay and Membery don't scream leadership to me, but i could be wrong.

Shooter is in the leadership group and Membrey appears to be a mentor with heaps of experience. Membrey's work rate and running patterns are right up there. Shooter's are elite. Unfortunately, McStay doesn't scream leader. His gesticulation against youg Buller in Opening Round was poor and him not wanting any real acknowledgement of his 200th game illustrates he's not comfortable with the qualities required in a leadership position. His inability to hit a target at all on Saturday night suggests he is not great under pressure.

I don’t disagree, I think one of the young talls should be seriously looked at - only issue is that the VFL fixture doesn’t do them any favours.

I forgot about Shooter. I don't know what's going on with McStay, but i feel we can't persist with him, maybe he sort out whatever he's going through in the VFL and give West a go. I'd rather put games into him than keep hoping that McStay will turn things around. Even with Shooter in the forwardline, we still looked lost, it would be a hope that Howe might be able to assist with that.

What's the story with Harvey Harrison? Is he still just needing minutes at VFL level after the knee reco?

I don't see many calls for him to be brought in or many mentions in the training thread lately but he's a natural footballer who would help out in our dysfunctional forward line.

Yeah just needs some adjusting to footy again given he has missed so much. But there were promising signs in saturday's vfl practice game

He was ok without being great in the pre season games (not that can read much into those).

Thought he was one of the better players I saw in Jens highlights of the vfl game against Geel. Seemed to be involved in a lot of link up plays etc. had a couple of shots on goal. Spent sometime in the middle.

Hopefully a few weeks in the vfl will give us a read on where he’s at.

Harvey was a promising fringe player when he did his knee. We've got no injuries, so he'll have to perform to get a game.

Much like West, Saxena, Steene etc ,all suggested as changes, there is very little exposed form to justify their selection. It’s more a leap of faith in case.
I’m a big fan of HH and think his best makes him a strong best 23 chance. So hopefully he has some strong VFL performances over the next month.
