Thought Bowden was terrible and with McGuanne, Schultz, Thursfield and Moore we have enough tall defenders. Would like to get in another running player so bring in Meyer. Would also be tempted to bring in Conners if fit.

Also the obvious of Richo for Huges.

I feel some changes can be made this week, we weren't overly good on the w.e.

i cant understand why people want Bowden out.... he is our smartest player, rearely makes a mistake and when he does they aren't big mistakes. He is our general down back and should be for atleast another year. And as for Tambling he tries his guts out.. when he learns how to deal with the pressure the media and us supporters put on him he will be a champion..

In: Richo (4 weeks after a hammy, should be as good as gold)

In Richo Out Hughes as everyone has said but I would love to see Meyer but guessing he is a bit off still and who to drop?

Edwards last quarter was fantastic cant drop him.

Polo got beaten by Stanton probs so he'd be the one but I would of thought he will go to Black. If he doesnt go to Black then maybe Tuck will and Polo can make way for Meyer/Collins.

What's the deal with Kingy? No love for him to come back into the side? I love the little fella (yes, he's also in my Dreamteam) and have been a little perplexed at some of the bad raps he's been getting on these boards lately.

Is he seriously not in your best 22?? Appreciate his form has tapered a little lately (although possibly playing hampered by inujury???) and he's prone to give away the odd silly free-kick, but he was on fire early in the season and his ferocity/aggression is sensational - you can't buy that!!

King isn't in our best 22 because simply their are better players for the job.
He is also a liability as a defender, doesn't defend and turns it over too much.
Needs to improve a lot to be any part of our future.

So let's see the team that invented icing the clock, gets angry at another team for doing just that

I am not angry. Let me make that perfectly clear. I don't think you'll find our coach or any of our players angry either. I was very proud of our young lads (after a pretty dismal first half). Key players had been unavailable for selection and we were down to 19 fit men for a large chunk of the match. We were never gonna play finals this year but we'll take a lot from our spirited performances over the past 6 or so weeks. Nothing to be angry or upset about. Richmond probably deserved to win and, in all likelihood, would still have won if Joel had taken a more orthodox approach and actually brought the ball back into play. Hell, ya might have even won by more! (Let's hope you don't miss the finals by a whisker of percentage!!! )

BUT... there's a big difference between icing the clock with THE BALL INPLAY and what Joel did. Chipping the ball around backwards, between defenders isn't pretty, but at least the ball is IN PLAY and therefore the opposition has a chance. It relies on skills and composure to execute it effectively, not simply a preparedness to exploit a loophole in the laws which undermines the game as a sporting contest.

The bolded words are key to my argument. If that doesn't count for much in your world, then fair enough. I'm not hanging the guy for his actions, but if Bowden's tactics were to become common, it would be a blight on the game.

Answer me these questions, honestly:

- Would you be so gracious if you LOST a Grand Final due to an opposition player employing similar tactics?

- Would you feel proud to WIN a Grand Final employing similar tactics?

If you answered yes, perhaps you also thought that Greg/Trevor made the right decision back in '81?

PS. I can't imagine James Hird doing it.

I hope that one of Connors, Collins, JON or (especially) Meyer can come in, but it seems there isn't room with such a "good", settled team at the moment.
Would be nice to reward Meyer or JON for their good form, but their chances will come, I believe. So for this round, I only think the one change, unless we suffer any more injuries.

As a side-note...Putt looked good in the VFL highlights reel, ay?

The "underarm" analogy would only stand up as a fair comparison if the Kiwis had rolled a few down earlier in the day. As Essendon essentially did by icing the clock at the end of the third quarter for TRIPLE the time off the clock that Bowden did.
