Changes Vs Pies next week

Polo was just short of a gallop, he'll be better for the run. If theres any doubts as to what his standing is with the coaching staff then look no further than the fact he was put onto their number 1 player in Harvey, despite the fact he hasnt played senior footy since early last year. Got better as the game wore on and did some great work on Grant when moved onto him. I'd keep him in and let him run with Pendlebury, Thomas or Swan

I dont think we need to make a change to our big man stocks at all this week.

Out: Raines, Hyde - In : Johnson, Morton

:thumbsu:DID I miss something? Seems a lot of people on here were calling for Matthew White to be delisted during the off-season and saying he wasn't up to scratch.
Now the majority are calling for his inclusion.
Do we have two Matthew Whites?

For mine it's in Johnson, Morton and Tivendale and out Raines, Hyde and Pettifer.
McMahon on thin ice!!!! Very thin ice!!!!

I think only two changes.

Raines and Hyde out.

I would like more but terry said that he would not tolerate players not playing for the jumper over a number of weeks.

That to me is a wake up call to the likes of Tuck, Petts, Tambo (although he has played much better than the other two), polak.

On a positive note - love the way Moore has stood up.

This is onew of Millers recruiting decisions that is a good one - took the punt on a kid who did not play U18's.

Are you guys kidding me?? Coughlan surely needs to come in. You need some passion and desperation in there. He is a fantastic player and will be very very good this year, despite his knee problems. And yes, I know melbourne have lost consecutive games by 100 points :thumbsu:

Couglan definetly needs to come in.....even a Melbourne supporter knows that:eek:. He will be a good inclusion for the team

I dont think wallace need to press the panic button yet. johnson in. i wouldnt read too much in the coburg game and only tiv is worth considering.

You blokes are idiots.

Cogs isn't fit enough to play at Coburg 2nds yet. He is not far away but don't expect too much from him this year. He hasn't played for 2 years and will need lots of games to get used to today's footy. He is a superstar though and when he gets it back, geez, he is going to kill them all.

Hughes showed enough IMO to warrant a crack this week; continual improvement is all you're looking for in big men like him.

Polo's 1st game back, give him a break.

Out: Pettifer, McMahon, Hyde

I am sick of dropping this bloke and bringing this bloke up.

We have a culture of defeatism here, we mush make wholesale changes to our list- tivendale, hyde, tuck, petticoat- etc these sort of blokes are not up to afl top standards, they have had their time and now it is time to play the kids, we have some good ones coming up, play em play em all the time and lets see the cream rise to the top

Wow !! what a difference a week makes.

For me its'
Out
Raines , injured
Hughes , McMahon, out for the same reason, didn't stand up against Carlton whilst the game is in the balance, but played well when in front, we don't need front runners
Hyde, speed and skills of modern game are beyond him.

In
White, Reiwoldt, Johnson, Morton. all in form.
I guess no real surprises, considering most people thoughts, when you consider the rnd 1 side and the three surprise selections were Mcmahon, Hughes and Howat, and those unlucky not to be picked rnd 1 were Morton, Reilwoldt, Polo and given White is young and was last week BOG , pretty easy selection.
Pettifer was very good against Carlton last week, when moved to the mid field ,and every bit as good as Brown, find it difficult that this week he all of a sudden is no-good ???

Yeah we all know that but the guy is only 20-21 and so has the time to step up. He is a first class kick. Something we really missed today going forward.

My INS: Riewoldt for Hughes
Johnson for Hyde
Morton for Pettifer (has done nothing in BOTH games)
White for Raines

We must reward great performances in the 'burgs and punish continual poor performances in the seniors.

I agree, also would love to get a definite on when Cog`s is expected to play.We need him back with his strength + ability in the middle, will bring others in.

Eat em Alive Tigers

To the guys suggesting Deledio into the middle, don't forget he killed us last time we played, playing in the F50. We couldn't find a match up for him. I wouldn't move him.

We won't :thumbsu: Unless he struggles up forward in the first half.

Out: Raines, Hyde.

Why, if you are mooting to replace Pettifer with Morton in the long term, would you drop Pettifer? I'd want to see them play in the same game. Morton might be good but he's played 12 AFL games, Petts hasn't missed a game in 3 seasons. He's just as likely to kick 3 this week. And if he does we'll probably win and he's a downhill skier.
The only other consideration is whether to replace Polo with White. Or at least it is for some of you. I didn't see the Coburg game but I've seen Matt White play many times and I've seen Polo play, and I know who I'd rather, provided he's fully fit.
SO, now that we've picked the team, how do we play it?
That pie fan was right that they didn't have a match up for lids last time, but we also caught them on the hop a little. Lids was one of our best against north. The thing with playing him up forward first and on the ball later is this: if we were a stronger team with 4 or 5 gun mids, lids would be a weapon in attack. Give him a couple of years and us 3 or 4 more gun mids and he'll kick 70, while still running on and off the ball.
But that is then and this is now. We don't have spare gun mids. He's a potential one & thus should spend most of his time there, until he is one.
Having said that, I'm going to start him forward this week, for the simple reason that it worked last time.:p
This places a lot of faith in our midfield to win first use and use it well.:o
Ok, screw that, Lids in the midfield. We need him there, and he needs to be there. Let him be a weapon later.
So, to the team.
Now this might be the first time i've ever typed out a lineup on big footy, and i'm going to show you boys how they'll line up. Or they would, if they were mine.
Polak Thursfield Moore
Newman King
Jackson Simmonds Deledio Bowden
Brown Johnson Foley Tambling
Pettifer Hughes
Richo Shulz Tuck
Patto Polo McMahon Morton

I was toying with the idea of playing Richo on Rocca or even starting him on the pine but instead we're going to stretch the Pies' defence. Hughes's man will leave him to double-team Richo, so play through Hughes. Richo will dummy lead;) wide or pushing back towards goal, allowing Hughes to lead straight up the ground. Mark, quick hands off to the streaming Lids: goal/Shulz on the ___.
Back to the centre, do it all again.
Petts not putting in? Drag him for Morton.
Rotate Lids, Bowden and Brown through the Tuck position, allowing a fresh Tucky to go into the guts and be a sledgehamer. Put Patto down there to really stretch 'em. To play a tall forward line you've got to move the ball quickly and cleanly, hence having a combination of our best ball users (Brown, Bowden, Lids, Tambling) and quickest players (Lids, Tambling, Foley, Jackson) in the midfield. Then you have an open forward line, mobile marking targets, a crumber or two and everyone else hitting the scene at pace.
Then back to the centre and do it all again.
Hughes has been presenting, he deserves another go. Let Jack demand it. Let him kick 20 in 3 weeks. Besides, he's a different player to Hughes. One's a CHF, one's Peter Busustow (please God, let him be!).
