Like I said I didn't see the game but playing on Garlett (178cm) is the sort of strange thing that you will see with Chaplin (195cm). Killing contests is also something that he does well as he can read the play.Been mentioned somewhere that he was on Garlett when he played forward. Didn't even realise Garlett was playing at the game until Chappy went off. Would say that's a win for him against a pretty good small forward. Obviously was rusty when he had the ball but that happens when he missed nearly the entire pre-season and only played a couple of quarters through the NAB series. Killed contests when required and anyone feel free to correct me but I don't believe he made a single error that led to a goal. Couldn't ask for much more from a rusty game one.

Am I allowed to do a troll type reply to your post or will I get booted out?Do you reckon Chaplin got confused last night by playing in front of 80,000 people, and not 10,000 and bay covers?

I say go for it.Am I allowed to do a troll type reply to your post or will I get booted out?![]()

I was going to mention about playing for a team that tried to win the wooden spoon in front of 40,000 spectators in 2010 rather than one that tried to win the GF in front of 97,000 spectators in 2007, ... but then I remembered how much we lost by.I say go for it.
Am hoping thread is shut down as it was rubbish to start with.![]()

But he is at a good club now. Things have changed for him.The last time Chaplin played in front of 80,000 people, his opponent won a Norm Smith medal![]()
But he is at a good club now. Things have changed for him.
There are so many flaws in this I don't know where to start.
A) Port Adelaide in 2007 finished second after winning a premiership 3 years prior, and were apparently a 'bad club'. Richmond haven't made the finals since 2001 and finished 12th last year, and are apparently a 'good club'. Right. I think you guys will probably make finals this year but let's not put the cart before the horse.
B) Will things turn around for Chaplin like they did for Adam Thomson and Mitch Farmer?
Or maybe they'll turn around like how Jay Schulz was a spud who couldn't get a game at Port and then became a 3 goal a game key forward at Richmond. Wait ...
PAFC maths lesson....Do you reckon Chaplin got confused last night by playing in front of 80,000 people, and not 10,000 and bay covers?
Where has your club gone on the field and off the field since then?
captain blood 17 said:B: Where has Chaplin been finishing in your B & F's. So I don't think his career was on the nose
captain blood 17 said:Speaking of player development at Tigerland on mature recruits, Grigg, Houli and Maric are three that come to mind. So yeah, Chappy just might have a chance I'd suggest.
Was it just me, or was Chaplin useless tonight?
Now I usually forgive a bad game comfortably, but it seemed like he couldn't outmark guys half his size, he was slow, he was useless when he had the ball and useless when he didn't. He did get in good positions, but then he'd **** the contest which made the good positioning pointless.
Thoughts?
Not relevant. My post was about 2007, and Barnzy said 'he's at a good club now'. If Port weren't a 'good club' in 2007 after 2 GF's and a premiership in 4 years, then how exactly are Richmond a 'good club' when they haven't made the finals since 2001 and finished 12th last year?
The absolute hack of a coach who gave out our B&F votes has thankfully been sacked. Dom Cassisi was somehow equal 4th in our B&F last year. If you'd watched Port last year you would know how hilariously wrong that was and how clearly flawed our system is. Kornes winning the whole thing over Brad Ebert was a joke too, as was Jackson Trengove and Tom Logan beating Robbie Gray in 2011.
I'm not here to tell you that Chaplin is a total spud or anything, but don't put any weight on Port's B&F voting when you're judging him. Anything voted on by Matthew Primus is not worthy of consideration.
The Tigers certainly have a good record with mature age recruits, but the 'he'll be a good player now that he's out of Poort Powaz!' crap is a total myth that has been debunked time and time again. Jay Schulz and Brad Ebert were both fringe players at their former clubs, now Schulz is a super consistent three goal a game forward and Brad Ebert is a super consistent goal-kicking midfielder who I've seen in at least one top 50 AFL players of 2012 list. Conversely, Shaun Burgoyne was an All-Australian at Port, then he went to Hawthorn and everyone predictably said 'he'll be a gun now that he's out of Poort Powaz!'. Now he's a run of the mill HBF who can't get a midfield spot ahead of players like Liam Shiels and Isaac Smith.
when has schulz kicked around 60 goals a season?
007Tigers said:he wouldnt make it in 3/4 of other teams forward lines. PERIOD

Chaplin is useless. He does have 2nd and third efforts, but they are always as soft as his 1st. He will cost you 2-5 goals per game. I noticed 2 last night, in fact that was pretty much all I noticed of him. He was never there rebounding or taking a saving mark, in fact when that happened he was no where near the ball.
I was so glad we lost him, the compensation we got was fantastic.
I believe he was a real contributor to our poor form over the past few years.
You will also notice him regularly talking in the media about what has to happen on game day for team success, then it either wont happen or will happen, either way he will play no part of it. I see he did a post match interview in the change rooms after the win last night. It begins.
He talks the talk but cannot walk the walk.
The Hawthorn game 2 years ago at the MCG was the final straw for me. He was so, so soft. Marshmallow style.
I used to cringe when I heard him in the media, watched him play football and was spewin when I went to a family day a couple of years ago where I got a show bag for my son upon entry to it, the player badge that was in it I got was, you guessed it, Troy Chaplin.
I am so, so, so glad he is gone. His departure was the beginning of a very enjoyable off season for a Port Adelaide supporter.
I dont expect him to be a regular in your 22 this years, especially when Grimes comes back.
