Firstly, sorry to post new thread on your board but wanted some opinions on this from saints fans

Why would St Kilda play Charlie Gardiner all through the pre-season, win the pre-season comp, and then not play him during the real season? It doesn't make sense

C Gardiner is a good fit and it means Riewoldt can play across Centre Half Back much like Wayne Carey did at times. I think if Riewoldt was in back half of the ground on Friday night (especially in the second half), the saints would not have lost the match

thoughts? feelings?? I think Ross Lyon has a long way to come as a coach

IMO you should coach the team instead of Ross Lyon.

Thanks for your concern ... but next time you have a suggestion take time to do the research.

C.Gardiner played the first game of the season and not one of his possessions hit a target, which incidentally was the reason that Geelong offloaded him. We only picked him up as a sweetener to get King. Secondly if you watched the game on Friday, you would know that in the 3rd quarter Riewoldt actually did play behind the ball - but good lot of good that did, as we couldn't win a clearance so it didn't matter if Roo was playing FF, wing, CHB, FB it would make sweet f.all difference

No doubt where the loss hangs on Friday night. The midfield.

Absoloutley slaughtered with the contested ball and the clearances. Thats why we lost, not in the forward line, not in the backline.

And when we got the ball with some fluency we ____ing bombed it long to Riewoldt, 1 on 3.

Midfield was terrible on Friday night.

He will play again, but probably only if Kosi, Roo or Frase get injured. Will lead up the middle for a target to get the others closer to goal.

Nah, I never said he was going to be good for us.

I still believe he provides a decent option for us, but unfortunately didn't turn up in round 1 and now we can't find a spot for him
