There will be plenty of discounted and underpriced players for SuperCoach 2014, and I will assess each position for the best value. The best bargain players will be profiled so you know who to look out for over the preseason.

Cheap as Chips: Ruckmen
Aaron Sandilands
2014 Predicted Price: $280-$300k
2013 Average: 64
2013 Games: 7

Why is he cheap? Sandilands had a severely injury interrupted year in 2013 and it took him a while to get going and to get back to his old premium scoring form. Sandilands also had two sub-affected games with scores in the thirties which brought his average down. Because Sandilands only played seven home and away games he should get a discount, making him an attractive option in the ruck department.

2014 Prediction - Sandilands is Fremantle's number one ruckman, however he doesn't have many years left in him. Zac Clarke could overtake him by the end of the year, as the club's number one ruckman, but Sandilands showed in the finals series that he is not done with yet, averaging 114 points. Sandilands is too cheap to pass by, as he should be priced at under $300k, which is a steal for a guy who has averaged over 100 points for the last four seasons.

On the other hand, there are huge question marks on his fitness and whether his body can hold up. Sandilands has only ever played one full season in his career (2008) and since 2011 he has only played a combined total of 32 home and away games, making him a risk.

Although he does have his injury concerns, the positives outweigh the negatives, as he won't cost you a lot and I think he can return to his old form and is every chance to average over 90 points next season, making him a good option.

Hamish McIntosh
2014 Predicted Price: ??
2013 Average: Not available
2013 Games: 0

Why is he cheap? McIntosh was priced at $495k this year, but he did not take the field at all as he was troubled by injury throughout the year. It's hard to estimate what McIntosh will be priced at in 2014, as we are not sure what VirtualSports will do, as it's likely that McIntosh will be a popular pick, so they may choose not to give him a massive discount, just like they did with Mark LeCras this year, who was in a similar position to McIntosh this time last year. But he should still be reasonably priced, maybe somewhere in the $350k region, but at the moment it is hard to tell.

2014 Prediction - McIntosh looks to be over his injury troubles of 2013, as he is back training and looking towards 2014. Like Sandilands, he has his injury concerns, only playing eight games since 2011, which is extremely concerning.

If he is able to keep fit, then we know what he is capable of, as he has been a good scorer in the past. It all depends on what he will be priced at and if he can have a good preseason, as if he is reasonably priced and fit, you would have to consider putting him in your SuperCoach side.

Cheap as Chips: Defenders
Nathan Bock
2014 Predicted Price: $180-200k
2013 Average: 36
2013 Games: 2

Why is he cheap? Bock featured in the cheap as chips segment last year and after another injury interrupted year, he looms to be a bargain, again next year. Bock is very cheap as he only played two games, meaning he will be discounted and because he only averaged 36 from those two games, he will priced around the $200k region, making him a steal if he can stay on the park.

2014 Prediction - Bock has had his injury troubles over the past two years, but before this he was a premium SuperCoach defender, averaging 93 points back in 2011. Even though I don't expect him to get back to that level, he's very cheap and if he's fit come round one, you could pick him over a rookie defender, as Bock should score more than most rookies next year and be a good cash cow.

Sam Darley
2014 Predicted Price: $270-$280k
2013 Average: 4
2013 Games: 65

Why is he cheap? Darley is cheap because he only played four games in 2013. He wasn't awesome in those four games as well, only averaging 65 points, however, a move to the Western Bulldogs over the trade period has made him fantasy relevant.

2014 Prediction - Darley is not expensive and you would expect him to build on his 2013 average at his new club. A fresh start for Darley could be good and I would watch his preseason form, before making a decision on whether to start him or not.

Sam Docherty
2014 Predicted Price: $270-280k
2013 Average: 52
2013 Games: 13

Why is he cheap? Docherty is priced at a 52 average, however this as a result of him being used as the sun on numerous occasions throughout the year. But when you take out these sub-affected games out he averages 74 points, which is a decent return for a youngster.

2014 Prediction - Docherty is another at a new club in 2014. But I'm not certain he has as a spot in the Blue's best 22. He is underpriced though and if he is named in round one, you would have to at least consider him.

Matthew Suckling
2014 Predicted Price: $280-300k
2013 Average: Not available
2013 Games: 0

Why is he cheap? Suckling suffered a horrific knee injury in a NAB Cup game, which ruled him out for the whole 2014 season. Because he didn't play a game, Suckling should get a big discount, making him one to consider down back.

2014 Prediction - He will be one of the most popular picked defenders next year if he's priced at around $300k. He has averaged 82 and 90 points, respectively in his last two years. It wouldn't be beyond him to return to his old form, but it may take him a while to get going. Nonetheless, he should still be picked in your team, as he is close to a premium defender and at that price, he is too cheap to ignore.
Beau Waters
2014 Predicted Price: $350-360k
2013 Average: 82
2013 Games: 7

Why is he cheap? Waters is cheap as he only played seven games in 2013, so he will get a discount in 2014.

2014 Prediction - Durability has been Waters' issue in the past, as his body has continually broken down on him. But when Waters is on the park, he is great scorer, averaging 100 points in 2012. He is underpriced and if you think his body can hold up, he is well worth the punt at the price.

Cheap as Chips: Midfielders
Xavier Ellis
2014 Predicted Price: $115-150k
2013 Average: 21
2013 Games: 2

Why is he cheap? Ellis only played two games in 2013 for an average of 21 points, after yet another injury interrupted year. Expect him to be close to bargain basement price, making him a bargain next year.

2014 Prediction - If Ellis can get his body right, then he is a steal at that price. But I wouldn't count on it, as he's only played 13 home and away games in the last three years, making him unreliable. Watch him over the preseason though, as Ellis could really flourish at his new club and at that price you would have to take a look at him.

Claye Beams
2014 Predicted Price: $150-170k
2013 Average: 40
2013 Games: 2

Why is he cheap? Beams only managed two games in 2013, which will see him receive a big discount next year and make him fantasy relevant.

2014 Prediction - Many were expecting Beams to break out last year, however it was not to be. He is well priced and he should be able to find a spot in the club's best 22 after the recent departures at the Lions and I think he should score more than most rookies, so you would be silly not to consider him.

Dom Tyson
2014 Predicted Price: $160-180k
2013 Average: 44
2013 Games: 3

Why is he cheap? Tyson didn't spend a lot of time on the park in 2013 and as a result he will be cheap in 2014 and one to watch for sure.

2014 Prediction - Melbourne should improve next year under Paul Roos and I'm expecting many of their players to flourish under Roos. Tyson is a good chance to have a break out year and he is cheap. I can see him averaging in the high seventies or low eighties, making him the perfect cash cow.

Andrew Gaff
2014 Predicted Price: $370-380k
2013 Average: 71
2013 Games: 22

Why is he cheap? After coming of a 90 point year in 2012, Gaff was very disappointing in 2013, as his average dropped by nearly 20 points. Gaff struggled to break the tag and nine times he scored 60 points or below.

2014 Prediction - Once Gaff learns how to deal with the tag he will be a super player. He is underpriced and at around $380k he will be a bargain if he can get his average back into the nineties.

Dayne Beams
2014 Predicted Price: $430-440k
2013 Average: 102
2013 Games: 7

Why is he cheap? After a fantastic year in 2012, averaging 123 points, Beams struggled in 2013 with injury but still managed a respectful average of 102. Beams didn't play a lot so he should get a discount, which would put him at a good price.

2014 Prediction - If Beams is priced at under $440k and fit you would have to seriously consider him. I believe he can get back to his 2012 form, or at least close, meaning he's an absolute steal at that price. Watch him over the preseason.

Cheap as Chips: Forwards
Jonathon Patton
2014 Predicted Price: $200-220k
2013 Average: 56
2013 Games: 3

Why is he cheap? Patton suffered a terrible season-ending knee injury in round three, meaning he only played three games for the year. He only averaged 56 points from those games, so he will be close to rookie priced next season.

2014 Prediction - Patton is entering his third season in 2014 and there's no doubt he has talent. Jeremy Cameron will commend the opposition's best key defender, which will benefit Patton. Patton knows how to kick goals and I wouldn't be surprised if 2014 is the year that Patton breaks out and kicks some bags of goals, which will lead to good SuperCoach scores. However, it's never easy coming back from a serious knee injury, so monitor him over the preseason and keep track of his progress.

Shaun Higgins
2014 Predicted Price: $220-240k
2013 Average: 59
2013 Games: 3

Why is he cheap? Durability has been Higgins' main issue in the past and yet again his body broke down on him. Higgins only played the first three games of 2013 and was then ruled out for the rest of the season after injuring his foot.

2014 Prediction - Higgins has been a good scorer when he's on the park, but Higgins is injury prone and is often not on the park. The most games Higgins has played in a season is 20 games (back in 2007), however Higgins is very cheap and I'll definitely be watching him over the preseason.

Mitch Clark
2014 Predicted Price: $240-260k
2013 Average: 59
2013 Games: 3

Why is he cheap? Clark's season was again cut short by a foot injury. Clark has only played fifteen games since making the transition from Brisbane to Melbourne, although he does average 76 points in that time, so he's worth keeping an eye on as he will get a discount due to the large amount of games he has missed.

2014 Prediction - Clark is a goal kicker and the addition of Dawes and Hogan in recent years will only help him. If he can stay fit he's a good scorer and if he's priced under $300k you would have to consider him, but picking him would come down to whether you think his body will hold up or not.

Taylor Walker
2014 Predicted Price: $290-310k
2013 Average: 69
2013 Games: 5

Why is he cheap? After a break out year in 2012, Walker came crashing down back to Earth (literally) suffering a horrific knee injury in round five which brought his season to an end.

2014 Prediction - Walker is a star, but it's never easy coming back from a serious knee injury. It's also highly unlikely he will be available in round one as superstar teammate Patrick Dangerfield said that "It's going to take time and we're not going to rush him in any capacity" and that "Maybe Round 8 or 9 you might see him". Because Walker won't be able to have a preseason and the difficulty he faces in returning from injury, you could nearly cross him off your watch list. Although, Walker is still very cheap and even if he isn't named in round one you could always pick him up later in the year, when he is on the bubble, if he posts impressive scores.

Dale Thomas
2014 Predicted Price: $340-360
2013 Average: 79
2013 Games: 5

Why is he cheap? Thomas' 2013 season was severely interrupted by injuries and he could only manage five games. As a result Thomas should receive a discount and if he retains forward status then he will be a popular pick.

2014 Prediction - Thomas has reunited with Mick, who will be hoping Thomas has his best football ahead of him. However, there are no guarantees he will be ready come round one and his ankle problems will concern some SuperCoachers and discourage them from picking him. I think if he has had a solid preseason, is named round one and if he remains a forward in 2014 you could nearly lock him in, so he's one to definitely watch.

Bloody Sandilands. Even if he played 20 matches (unlikely of course) he would be a monty to cop a visit from the General in the SC Grand or Preliminary Final. No thanks!

Yep, I don't think I can trust him as well. He is good value though.

Really not sure on Gaff, he'll keep getting tagged this year which will subdue his points. And it will be a VERY brave man that takes the punt on Ellis!

Yeah something to consider. I'm not saying you have to pick these players btw, I'm just saying that these players are under valued and should be considered. If Ellis is say $120k and named round one you wouldn't consider him?
Also another guy I forgot was Jared Polec, he's certainly one to consider.

Well of course, it's always good to bring up new discussion, just putting in my two cents about Gaff and Ellis :) I wouldn't have even thought of Tyson for some reason, but I'll be watching him closely. J Martin and M Crouch are pretty much two lock-in midfield rookies, and then there'll be Polec/Michie/Tyson/Ellis etc. vying for maybe one other spots. For Ellis, it's a tricky one. He is obviously a talented player and could be a good scorer as well, but his injury history is on par with someone like Tom Williams. And I think there will be other rookies around the same price that don't have that injury history that will score a bit lower, but not by much. I'm not prepared to take the risk, but others might be.

On Polec, he is an interesting one. I'm not sure if you saw the article today, but he was disappointing at PAFC training. One to watch over the pre season definitely, but I can't help but think he might be fool's gold.

Yeah I understand.
And I heard something about Polec, he has talent, no doubt and a new club may be good for him. Who knows :)

Polec's a dud, plain and simple.

I reckon the Lions are laughing that they even got a second round pick for him to be honest.

Just a total lazy, over-hyped spud who can't blame just injuries for why he's done nothing of note as yet.

Polec = John Oakley Nichols!

SPUD!!!!!

Which could cost you trades without the reward if he gets turfed out again. You can point and laugh at me next season I guess. :)

Cheap as chips mids are up. The Beams brothers present good value!

2013 Games: 71

No wonder Gaff was disappointing. I'm tired just thinking about it!! :)

Great read though Conca. Thanks for putting all the info together.

The Beams boys will definitely be among the first I pick next year.

Thanks Conca, Great read mate. You may have given me my backline and forward line from the above the above players (with the plan being) to have a fully loaded Midfield of Super Premiums.

One Question No Nic Nat mentioned above what price do you think he start at?

Nic Nat should be around $500k, probably a bit above. So I'd say $500-$520k.
He's underpriced, but if he has a strong preseason you could nearly lock him in. He had a terrible year (due to injuries) yet he still averaged 96.

Where do u guys see nic nat in your team.
Fwd or ruck
I doubt he keeps his F/R DPP and I'd put him in the rucks. It's up to you though and your team structure and whether you'd prefer a premium forward or ruckman.
