Cheap forwards

What are the thoughts regarding cheap forwards this year?

T.Rockliff appears to be a no-brainer and J.Podsiadly would seem to be a solid bargain-basement choice (surely he will be elevated?!). I'm also tending towards picking G.Rohan as well.

However, what about the likes of T.Dennis-Lane, R.Tarrant, P.Davis, M.Duncan, N.Fyfe, S.Gumbleton, C.Hitchcock, D.Talia and others of a similar price range? Who do people rate as a good, early season prospect?

Depends on what you class a cheap forward, under $200K?

Most of these blokes will be either rookies or blokes that have been in the system for a year or two. I had a mate at work telling me the other day that Henry Playfair was to good to pass up. At $107k he may be right but IMO his price equates to his abiltity. I walked away with a smile

Tarrant and Gumbleton also fall into the same category, been around a few years and have spent more time at the doctors than at training.

For me I would be looking at some first or second year players that are puting up their hands for some early games like Rockliff, Rohan, Hitchcock, Fyfe etc. these blokes will be in many teams as the 7th forward or reserves and should make some bucks with any luck.

The only issue if you start with them is how many games will the play?

I had Playfair on my team but he's not much good to you unless he gets elevated off the rookie list.... If he was to play, he'd be well worth it. By all reports he's in great nick and playing well but is unlikely to be playing seniors.

Largely I am referring to those first or second year players closer to the 100k mark - the types who might fill the forward spots from 7-9. I think 5-6 games out of the first 8 weeks is what I'm looking for as well.

Massive value at 274k.

Bench spots should be Rockliff and Gumbleton. Rusling is the only other steal at 161k but his body is the only issue but has genuine talent and if he can stay on the park will score well and make money for your team.

Looking at Benny Warren this year, he resembles Porplyzia. He could have a big year. 260k looks pretty good value. Mayne's awesome value too. Looked good 2 years back. Torn between starting Rockliff or benching him.

Guys, get Ben Warren from North. Kicked 4 against Geelong and will be our 2nd best forward this year beside Petrie.

personally i have been very impressed with Daniel Stewart from Port - tall, quick, agile nice mark - looks a real number 9 spot @ 94K!

I have Rockcliff as 7th forward and Rohan and Hitchcock on the bench. Works for me and I like it.

I don't see any point having someone like Ballantyne or Womaeamerri as your 7th forward when someone like Rockcliff or Rohan could do a similar job for you and are cheaper.

I'm fairly confident Rohan will start Rd 1 and be looking at 15+ games from him this year.

Not sure what we're looking at scoring wise though.

Yeah I see your point mate and that does look bizzare on my behalf but I have been known to say and do alot of crazy things around here.

Theres not a great deal of forward rookies that I have faith in starting round 1 but Rohan and Rockcliff are 2 of them. I am only starting Rockcliff based on a couple of big scores in the NAB Cup and Challenge Series, no other reason really, otherwise I would have Rohan as 7th forward.
