Hey guys,

Just wondering what everyones experience is with the "Cheaper TV Brands".

Such as Telefunken, Soniq, Asus etc.

I noticed a few that are almost half the price of the Sony's etc.

I'm currently looking at getting a tv for the bedroom and noticed a 26 inch Telefunken for about $500 (FULL HD) which seems bloody cheap.

I bought one from Target once, lasted a week. They gave us cash back instead of a replacement as there were problems with lots of them. I will not do that again.

The panel of the sceens are made by the big corps as they are expensive to develop.

Once they have branded their own models they send on whats left for others to pair with their cheapo electronics, most of the time being out of date old generation panels.

With HD screens from the top brands you do get what you pay for.

It's unfortunate that you are forced to pay so much for a big TV even though plasma technology has been around for what seems like decades but the big manufacturers are not going to make you a cheap screen, they are going to let somebody else do it so they can sell brand new shiny ones for top dollar.

We bought one for my Mum as a family present and it ended up having to be replaced within 6 months because of faulty parts. It still cost the Family $1000 to buy. So I didn't think of it as a "cheap" one, but it was a no name brand

Much appreciated, I have heard that from a few people...Might look at some of the mid tier brands (Samsung/LG)

Myself and fiance bought a Soniq DVD player/recorder (impulse buy) lasted about 4 weeks, it really is "you get what you pay for". I wouldnt recommend it.

I got a Soniq Plasma 32 inch TV in January from JB, with additional 2 year warranty ontop of the 1 year from manufacturer. This TV only has to bridge the gap between me renting, and me eventually buying something (and then fitting the house out as I want).

It broke down after about 3 months. Took back to JB, it got fixed up, and is still going now.

It's good for a muck around TV, but little else.

If it is just for the bedroom and you won't get too annoyed and not having it for a week or 2 then I'd recommend any el cheapo option with a 2 year warranty.

If it is something that you are going to want day in, day out and something you will watch a lot stay away from them and pay the extra money. You can always get "out-of-date" series for $300-$400 less than the newer ones.

I have had a shite brand Chinese LCD in the bedroom, wife watches it everyday and its still working about 3 years later.

Folks used to have a small telefunken lcd for camping. Seriously its was the worst tv ever, heaps of ghosting in the picture, blurry, and then it just went pop.

They got samsung after that and never looked back.

Aldi has got a special this Thursday on a 23 inch TV with a built in DVD player for $399.

Funny, in the newspaper crime section they had a photo of a guy wanted for credit card fraud/theft. He was walking out of the store with a large box with Teac scrolled across it. You idiot!

We've got a 42' Soniq Plasma (2-3 years), a 32' Telefunken (3 months) and I've got a 26' Magnavox (2 years) in my room and haven't had any major issues with any of them.

The only slight problem is the screen on my Magnavox doesn't always turn on when I turn the TV on. Its only a minor annoyance and turning the TV off and on again fixes it.
