There's a few interesting comments on it, such as this one

A while back I would have been disappointed to lose him, but now he is free to go...in fact I hope he goes.

He has done some good things for this club, but he is simply a pig-headed person who cannot accept criticism and treats fans with contempt if they don't agree with his views.

He labelled Geelong fans who complained about our new logo, "whinging school girls".

Here's another bit of a story on Stuart Fox.
I have received (through an insider) a copy of a newsletter which was mailed out to all the cheersquad members. On the front page of this newsletter is a message from Stuart Fox which contains the following instructions.

"It is vital that you all know how important you are to the promotion of the club brand. 2008 is a new era for the Geelong Football Club and we look forward to everyone's support in maintaining the consistency and profile of our brand"
"We would appreciate your help in maintaining the consistency by ensuring that the old logo is not worn or displayed within the cheer squad area at any time or under any circumstances in 2008"

In plain english, what he is telling the cheersquad members is that they must wear clothes with the new logo, or they will be refused entry into the cheersquad!!!

I feel sorry for poor old Troy who will have to remove the couple of hundred buttons and badges from his flombouyant coat and replace them all with new ones (if he can find that many).
If I was still in the cheersquad, what I would do is turn up to the game wearing nothing else but my undies and the dorky 2008 members cap. Would that keep Mr Fox happy??

What's going to happen next, are we going to have fashion police standing at every gate inspecting what everyone is wearing and not let them in if they dont 'maintain the consistency of promoting the club brand' .

How ridiculous !!

Does the club even finance the cheer squad? If they give no monetary contribution to them, then i can't believe they could even tell the CS what to do.

Sorry - I missed the point where Stuart said that you will be 'refused entry' if you don't comply with his request.

To be honest, you really strike me as someone who is looking to have an out and out whinge where it really isn't justified.

Don't you people know that's the old heritage???

This is the new heritage!

Get with the times and embrace the new traditions!!!

Jim
Look at their previous history and you'll notice it's a troll.

Stuart Fox sounds like David Brent multiplied by Michael Scott. What guff. Brand name, image?

Next we'll be seeing the mission statement, did i just die and wake up in year 1999 marketing hell.

You wouldn't want to script it, but you couldn't. You. Could. Not. Script. It.

Just goes to show what stupid people work at Football Clubs. This is amateur hour.

I know people in the CS and you are NOT allowed to wear anything pre-2008 in the CS area this season. So you will not be allowed to sit there with old gear, which is essentially refusing entry.

If it is GFC gear it cannot have the old logo or Slazenger on it, it must have the new logo and ISC on it.

The only other option for those without the new gear is to wear something that's just plain navy or white.

No, in fact the CS fund the club.

Each year the CS give the club a "donation". IIRC last year it was about $20,000.

I also know quite a few people in the cheersquad and it means you can't wear any premeirship gear as well. I think that is a bit rich though!

Dont the club or the AFL pay for the banners ??? and i seem to recall talking the a CS member who said the club help pay there was in Busses to the games, Becuase they carry gear for the club ?

I Agree that its a bit shit to ban ppl from wearing old gear, But the club is doing an awsome job with this new brand....and im sure if the CS ppl asked they would get help :thumbsu:

Well it looks like the club don't practice what they preach.
There were 86,000 people their last night, so was a great opportunity to show off their "brand".
Have a guess what the little league were wearing. They were wearing last years away jumpers complete with the large GFC shield logo and the Slazenger logo. I really don't think that this sought of thing will help the club "maintain the consistency of their brand".

l dont know much about the cheer squad l would guess you have to pay to be in the squad? and spend your own time helping out with banners etc and they are asking for cheer squad people to wear new geelong clothes and you would have to buy your own.........:thumbsd:

Oh no! Our little leaguers were wearing last year's gear!

It's obvious the clubs a rabble. We should boycott all games until they update our little league's outfits.

Seriously, how many people go to games and think "Hmm, I like what the little league team is wearing today. Think I might go out and buy myself one of those tops"? I'm guessing the answer would be nil, nada, zip, zilch.

speaking of cheering, i came up with a drunken cheer last night, to the tune of We are Australian..

something like this in an english drunken chant style, feel free to use it at games. try and get it popular so when i come over for the finals i wont be the only one chanting it.....

We're number one, but so is Jimmy
down at geelong, where we come froomm
we share a dream and sing with one voice
i am, you are, we aarreeee geeeellooonnggggg

my neighbours locked their doors and closed their windows after my display.

I don't support 'a brand'.

Once merchandise was a sideline fundraiser, now its part of a corporate brand culture.
Failing to be discreet will turn-off life time supporters. (Push money too hard, the NSW rugby for instance, turned supporters away.)
I accept the new logo and timing of it as fine - but don't like the design compared to the old.

Corporate aspects need to be severly quarantined.
Even by giving out freebies to the cheersquad for 'collective togetherness' purposes.

Rennis,is that you ?
All you do is bitch'n'moan like that slapper.

You'll probably find the AFL are to blame for the jumpers.

I heard Cooky speak at a lunch last year - he was talking about how there was a succession plan for everyone at the club from the President to the bootstudder. Fox is his likely successor in three years time if he hasn't found something else in the meantime.

I'd be a little surprised if Cooky or Frank would know about a letter like that, not exactly their style...

While watching the replay I noticed Chappy was wearing last years shorts - as I noticed the "AFL" printed down the sides, with the shield at the bottom.

I don't care what shorts he was wearing, but if they club are so keen on enforcing this no-shield/Slazenger policy with it's cheersquad then it seems to smell of double standards if they allow one of the players to take the field wearing the old sponsors clothing.
