Collingwood veteran Shane O'Bree will get a first-hand look at the players he is expected to mentor as an assistant coach of the Suns in 2011 when the Magpies play the Gold Coast today.
O'Bree has yet to sign a coaching contract with the Suns although it's expected once the Magpies are out of the finals race and he makes his retirement intentions known.

He was always going to retire and the AC rumour has been floating around the traps for a bit now.

Disappointing that he won't be around our club in any capacity next year because I would have liked him to stay on as the VFL captain, but this is a good opportunity and he should do well.

I thought he would have made a great VFL coach, maybe even a captain/coach.

I've been critical of Gavin Brown's coaching over the past few years, and with Brown's contract up, I was hoping someone would over GB an assistants job, and Cheesy would get the VFL job.

Cheesy apparently has one of the best "football brains" many have seen/heard in an AFL footballer, which usually translates to a very good coaching career.

I'll be sad to see him go, and I'd say a lot of our youngsters will be also, he has no doubt helped the likes of Beams, Sidebottom, Wellingham etc become better players, and has had a hand in the real youngens, like Thomas and Sinclair.

I'd love to see him come out and announce his retirement this week, we could give him a farewell game next week.
