What did we think when we saw two of our lads jump up & do a chest bump when comfortably beating the worst side in the comp in round two?

Tim Watson hated it.

I must admit, I hated the Fletcher/Goddard hollywood stuff in the last quarter.

Most other teams would have tried more.
There's nothing wrong with Goddard and Fletch appeasing the fans wants in the last quarter of that smashing, I know Hirdy is about discipline, but he's hardly going to tell those two not to excite the crowd by trying to torp a few through. Think of the upsides, Goddard nails a torp, crowd loves it, it's played all week, he misses, big whoop?

Remember Bradshaw's torp against Brisbane when playing for Sydney? Was played for weeks.

Chest bumps on the other hand, not sure about it. I'd rather the team have that ruthless seriousness, like it didn't phase them. Goddard smashes out a torp, nails it, fist pumps, gets on with it.

I understand, I'm not saying that it wasn't enjoyable. Just that I would have preferred an extra two goals with ruthless efficiency as opposed to that.

In any case, I really don't give that much of a shit. If anything, it's probably a good thing that the players had the opportunity to genuinely enjoy their football and just have fun doing it for the last quarter.

I think that no-one can really fault the match by us so they need to find something to talk about. Lairising and arrogance is always talked about in a rout because I think in essence the players get comfortable out there. Non issue as long as it doesn't happen too often.

It's better than Reimers high fiving the crowd last year.

No fuss about that at all.

He was running there from the momentum of his kick, and gave one supporter a hi-5. When it comes to Reimers and things like that, it seems that supporters were actively looking for things to show he was an individual by the end of it.

Yeah, I totally agree with the ruthlessness part, I am loving that cold steel Goddardness we're getting.

Agree it wouldn't be a good look if it become a 'too much' thing.. but I don't think we went over the top.. they smashed out a good win, gave up only 2 goals in general play (and three from free kicks) and gave themselves 5 minutes at the end of the game to 'enjoy' it a little more..

I thought it was fine.. as long as they stay focussed on the main goals.. and I believe that every player understands the 'team ethos' hird has instilled.

As to the 'torp' attempts.. I thought both players had a look for other options first and then decided to have a crack.. would they make the same choice if we were 5 pts down? I don't know.. maybe they should practise in case we do need it.. and what was the harm? I was pleased that we (surprisingly) saw very little 'front running' and waiting over the back for cheapies... I thought most players stuck to the game plan really well despite the fact they were playing witches hats..

Unnecessary, and not the best look for the circumstances of the match etc, but the blokes should be able to enjoy their efforts a little bit. Save it for September, though, then you'll be entitled to celebrate.

Also annoying as it gives people like Rob Walls a bit of ammo to slander our club (ie, SEN this morning, which I suspect is the catalyst of the OP) referring to a 'history of arrogance' or some rubbish.

Wow, a Carlton nuff nuff accusing another club of arrogance.

Wonder what he thinks of the Betts/Robinson celebrations. Plenty of psuedo chest bumps there (they bump chests with arms outspread and not leaving the ground, instead of a hug), plus hip-gansta-wannabe handshakes.

Walls is a major flog.

And the person whose opinion I could not give a flying **** about is?

I'm fine with it. The game was well and truly over and a couple of our guys celebrated a goal. They aren't robots - let them do it.

Thought the torps were a bit ambitious, but Melbourne were flooding late and we'd pretty much just passed the ball back and forth 70 from goal for 5 minutes because we couldn't find any options. Might as well have a go.
