i would like to think that Gardy will play there because it will be a tough ask for him to come straight back into the ruck after 2 successive Knee Injuries and Cox deserves to be Number 1 ruckmen with Gardy only rucking when Cox needs a rest.

But yes i like the idea of Gardy playing CHF with Hansen playing off the bench and Staker wel i dont know about him if Hansen starts to get into the team on a regular basis it will be hard for Staker to get back in.

an injury free season will let gaspar do regularly what hes done in the games where he wasnt injured. that is, provide the missing forward marking target we need.

If Travis Gasper was a fast bowler his name would be Bruce Reid.!!!!!!!!

I would like to see Hansen at CHf along with gardi FP.
Forward line with a lot of Height Gardi/Han fp/chf and Mcdoogs at ff, also have seaby at fp.( bit of height) Couple of decent crumbers in Matera/Sampi and Adkins who really has to work on his disposals. it would stretch most teams in the comp.
cmon 2005.

Staker is great but hope its Gardi.
Lynch is better at CHB

Tend to agree with u Ruddiger about Lynch better suited at chb as he has a long driving kick, can be erratic with his kicking

my ideal spine would be(assuming gardy cant play ruck)
FF: Doogs/lynch
HF: Gardy
C: Cox
HB: Gasper/Lynch
FB: Glass

assuming gardy plays ruck
FF: doogs
HF: Hansen
C: Gardy
HB: Gasper/Lynch
FB: Glass

they are also assuming gasper is fit......;)

I actually think our best CHF currently is playing FF.... Andrew McDougall would be a star there. Don't believe me? Watch the tape of the Essendon V Eagles game where Gardiner went down and we only had Cox in ruck.... McDougall had to do the ruck work and was around the ground predominantly playing around CHF and he was Reiwoldt like in the way he moved. Very athletic.

I also remember that dreaded game against St Kilda earlier this when we got pumped by 101... McDougall couldnt get near the ball at FF as you would expect.... so Woosha put McDougall in the backline in the last quarter.. and I tell you what.. he starred. He outmarked Reiwoldt on at least 2 occassions and there was just something about him playing there. Seemed to have more room to move and seemed to be able to judge the ball better because he was able to run onto and judge the flight of the ball.... without having some guy behind him trying to fist the ball away every single time....as happens when he is leading out like he does at FF and hoping someone hits him on the chest.

So who do I think is our potential full forward? Brent Staker.

I think Brent Staker will eventually be our full forward and here is why.

Brent Staker Height: 196 cm Weight: 89 kg
Matt Richardson Height: 196 cm Weight: 105 kg
Fraser Gehrig Height: 195cm Weight: 101kg
Barry Hall Height: 194cm Weight: 98kg
Warren Tredrea Height: 194cm Weight: 98kg
David Neitz Height 193cm Weight: 100 kg
Alistair Lynch Height 193cm Weight: 98 kg
Chris Tarrant Height 193cm Weight: 94 kg
Matthew Lloyd Height: 191cm Weight: 94 kg

As you can see... at the moment his only problem is weight... lack of it... he is too skinny compared to these other great full forwards...... BUT he is only 20 and hasnt filled out yet. He is 5 cms taller than Matthew Lloyd... and would be the biggest full forward in the AFL. McDougall is 1cm taller than Staker but I think Staker is better mover.. better hands...and better 2nd effort. If I was to prototype a Full Forward then Staker would seriously be it.

Staker has a wonderful set of hands and can take a great overhead mark or a mark on the lead.....he has very sticky hands.... he is super quick off the mark and leads his opponent to the ball almost every time. He is also great with the ball below his knees and is quite possibly one of the best tacklers at the club.... when he tackles someone they stay tackled. Also his 2nd efforts are great. He has all the hallmarks and ability to become a great Full Forward... the only thing he is missing is body strength but once he puts on 5 to 10 kilos he will be ready to play at Full Forward and learn.

To give you an idea of how good Staker will be... he is only 2cms shorter than Matthew Allan and only 3cms shorter than Michael Gardiner... and they are ruckmen... yet he has amazing speed and agility. I would never have believed it had you told me that Staker was almost the same size as those guys and taller than all those full forwards.

I beg Woosha to eventually make this kid our FF.... move McDougall to CHF/CHB..... Gardiner to CHF.. forward pocket..... Cox/Seaby ruck.... Lynch is tradeable.... Hansen as a potential CHF as well.

Staker is'nt built enough to pay full forward compare the weights of the names that was just put up

I think that Gaspar (when fit) and Hansen are our best chances for CHF. Staker suits better the Forward Flank, similar to Mitchel White in his good days.

Thanks for pointing out you have to be TALL to play FF and that all the other FF in the comp are Tall and that Staker is TALL, no, cause thats right a 1/3 of our list are'nt 6 ft PLUS Giants. I've got an idea, they can all play at FF!

Good to see you completely missed the point. Yes he is tall.. that is only 1 component of being a FF. Great Full Forwards are not huge tall men. Dunstall/Lockett/Lloyd are all STRONG and tall.. but the main thing is they are all Quick and strong with a great pair of hands. Simply being tall does not make you a great Full Forward or else Aaron Sandilands would play there... what is more important is being quick and having great hands and strength. Look at Fraser Gehrig as someone who plays that role perfectly. As I said Staker is not strong enough to play there yet but in 2 years he will be... and mark my words the same people who thought Gehrig would never be a full forward will say the same thing about Staker.

1 season doesn't make you a full forward. I always thought that McIntosh was a better Full Forward than Gehrig, but I agree with you about Staker. If he adds the kilos he will make the grade.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm how long u been following football for?

The guy has 1 good year out of 10. Averages less goals per game than Phil Matera and you think he is a top class Full Forward. I would be questioning how long you have been following football. Maybe you ought to don that red shirt of yours again.

I reckon it's already a given that Gardiner will be playing CHF next year.

With McDougall at FF and Seaby rotating between FP and ruck when Cox is resting, I wonder where Lynch, Staker and Hansen will fit. Are one of these guys being groomed as a key defender? Lynch played CHB early but struggled.

Surely with these guys ahead of them Travis Gaspar and Paul Johnson could be traded. If we keep them, then surely one of Staker or Hansen will get traded instead.

I wish we could keep them all, but only half of them will be playing regular senior football next year and there is a great deal of interest in Hansen and Staker in Victoria, where they are both from originally.

The real question is, 'what will our spine look like in 2006-07?'

FB: Glass
CHB: (??) we need to fill this spot
RUCK: Cox
CHF: Gardiner
FF: McDougall (Is he the man to hold this spot down long-term, or are Seaby, Lynch, Hansen or Staker better options?)

With Seaby, Lynch, Hansen, Staker, Johnson and Gaspar all pushing for a post on flanks and pockets, the side could be fairly top-heavy. I reckon we should offload at least two of these talls for some quality defenders.

is anyone else here worried about how gardy is going to transfer into our CHF? ok hes got the height, the overhead and contested marking ability, but it he going to be mobile enough? hes also not really the crash packs and create oppurtunities kind of guy. his ground level football isnt that of other big forwards in the league. he kicks goals, but no more than our other attacking midfielders. im also thinking of the other times in recent years that specialist ruckman have made the move to full time forwards, and they generally dont seem to work that well.

admittedly it will be good to have one of the best ruckman in the comp as a specialist forward line ruckman. id start him rehearsing close to goal throw ins and toss up cleanances with fido, embers, cuz and juddy all summer. clearance-goal, clearance-goal, repeat until march :)

it seems to be a given that hes going to move up there and im just not sure about it. im thinking maybe a fastish, crash and bash tall forward is needed to complement him in the forward line. can any of our other kids maybe fill that role? hansen mebbe?

My God! A WCE supporter who doesn't think Gardiner is suddenly going to be the best CHF in the league!

We've got laughable chumps in this thread thinking McDougall is actually 'as good as' Riewoldt in some sort of manic fantasy (sorry mate, he moves NOTHING like Riewoldt...get off the pills) and another who thinks a guy who has kicked 98 goals in 22-odd games this year isn't a good full-forward and tries to justify this by averaging out his career goals across his whole career, depsite the fact he has only played full-forward for a very short time in his career. Sorry, but in his last two seasons, Gehrig has kicked more than 150 goals from full-forward. That is a good full-forward, end of story. You can't average his goals across seasons he has played key back and wing.
