In my un-expert opinion, out of all our youngsters I think Bock has shown the least. Perrie should have been getting games ahead of him. I think he's been kept around mainly because his height and mobility (for his height) which gives us something to work with. But I haven't really seen any standout, or even solid, games from him yet.

He gave Adam Goodes the run a round vs. Sydney. He hasn’t set the world on fire but he has still been useful.

As some commentators say, “he has been serviceable to the side over the last 6 weeks” stop knocking the kid.

Won't get any arguement from me as I am yet to be convinced about Bock. However, in Bock's defence, IMO he has been played out of position & is not a CHF. Would be better suited to a defensive flank.

We must persist with Perrie at CHF as he will give us a target. Throw in Hentschel with Welshy across FF & we have some reasonable firepower.

I like Bock, once he gets some experience he'll be another very nice steal by our 'underrated' recruiting team.

Plus we can say 'Push in the bock' everytime hes tackles, which is more fun than watching the crows in a game of footy right now.

I am also still unconvinced about bock, however when he did come on during the kangas game he was about the first person to take a grab inside 50. I thought he looked fairly lively up forward when he was there and suprised he didnt get more game time.
Still not sure about Perrie, be interesting to see how he goes next week...needs to back it up

I believe the only reason Ian Perrie is getting a game now, is to showcase his game to other suitors. If the AFC are serious about re building (renovating), then IMO Ian Perrie must be traded and the CHF spot be given to Trent Hentschel and Fergus Watts. Nathan Bock should be played out of a forward pocket or CHB/ FB

Not really. It was for the first quarter and then he completely disappeared from the game.

Bock reminds me too much of Scott Stevens - does a couple of good things for 10 minutes, but then completely disappears for the balance of the game.

My comments about Bock at the end of last year have been proven right. His disposal is awful especially under pressure and he drops some of the most undroppable marks.

His best position would be in the backline but if he wants to make it at this level he better tidy up his disposal quick smart and work on NOT dropping his head when going for the marks.

With another year under his belt next year hopefully he will develop into a good solid player, in the same way Toby Thurstans has for the power after quite a long period on their list and running round in the local comp.

Considering both Parker & Smith have been temporarily upgraded, how does everyone rate them compared to Bock? Can we afford all 3, along with Rutten to be on our list in 2005, given they are fighting for similar positions?

1. They all play different positions but if we are talking purely on who is a better player I would take Parker over Bock anyday. I haven't seen much of Smith this year except yesterday on TV and he looked pretty good and took a couple of rippers. Considering the appauling conditions I thought he played pretty well.

2. Yes. Keeps the pressure for spot and you can never have too many talls. If they can play really well in SANFL and crack a game or 2 here and there their trade value will rise. I would keep all of them;)

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait a second.

How can you on the one hand talk up Rutten's performance against Sydney when Hall ultimately won the contest handsomely, yet at the same time talk Bock down when he did do some tremendous things against the Swans in a somewhat single-handed forward performance?

Double standards no?

It's impossible to answer until Parker or Smith actually play an AFL game or two.

I'm quite intrigued as to how the AFC are going to do this, as both are defenders, and our current back 6 are all in good form.

Conversely, how stupid is it to promote them and not play them.

Ideas, please??

Uh...Bock had 6 possessions and 4 marks against the Swans. Pretty much all in the first quarter. Goodes worked him out quick smart after that. Single-handed? Not in a good way...

Rutten's game on Hall - the goals were an unlucky free, one lace out pass and a couple of arsey crumbs off the pack. He wasn't his usual marking-machine best at all, Rutten played him well in a number of man-on-man contests.

I dont agree!!

I have stated before that Craig will try and milk as many wins as he can to sure up his spot. Youngsters will be dropped for Burton and Mark STevens once they are fit, you can bet your bottom dollar on it.

Watts in a couple of years will be great, but having perrie playing will contribute more to a win at this point and that is what I really think Craig will focus on to sure up his job for next year.

Sorry then l should change that from “l believe,” to “in my opinion ”.

Just one thing about Nathan "Chicken Man" Bock. I think he deserves a better chant than the chicken-sound "Bock Bock Bock!" Or at least, he can get that if/when he's a champion. Meantime, give him a lift, not a ribbing. "Bock! Bock! Bock!" can be agressive/serious without the chicken thing.

If Coaching appointments are announced next week as anticipated, it will change Craigs need to win.
Irrespective IMO he will rotate the young players rather than play too many of them at once.

Both Burton and Stevens will come back via the SANFL, so might see them last one or 2 games at best.
