I guess being from a full size breed the 3 Sussex chicks hatched look a lot bigger and stronger than the little ones from my bantams I usually see emerge from under the house on day 2! 3 of the 5 eggs left under her are Pekins, hopefully they hatch tomorrow.
Please post pics when Mum lets you take them of her babies.
Did you see what the parents of the Pekins looked like? I've got one little white-ish girl but I know they come in all sorts of colours and with fancy feathers.

And were the eggs that hatched eggs from one of the reliable Mums?

Took a good pic but can't upload images atm. The 3 hatched are from the hen on the side fence, she also has the unhatched Pekin eggs and they should be buff coloured from the breeder. Old girl has just 2 unhatched (sadly I think they might have got too cold but you never know), and 1 other under the house has 5 that I can't access to look at.

Click the upload a file button next to post reply. Can't see images linked the usual way right now.

Congrats on the hatchings.

Fingers crossed for the old girl :).

:(
Hope it's OK.
Nah they are looking a bit better, should fine, just regaining some strength after hatching, remember I don't usually see them breaking out. One of the Pekins seems to have some dark through its colouring though, might be crossed with a black one (not that that bothers us).

Hahaha 'senior' the sussex has just the 1 breaking out. Now hopefully the silly thing will look after it and not sit on a bloody nest again for over 2 months!
Yay for the old chook!! :D Hope her other egg hatches as well.
Did you go and listen for pecking and peeping from the eggs last night, Kram?

Nah couldn't hear it last night when I checked them, only noticed it this morning when they had already made a hole themselves.

no noise?
You don't really want to crawl under the house to check, do you?
No, trust me doing it once was more than enough...

She has got off yesterday and today clucking getting food which she wouldn't imo do if she had chickens hatched, and I can't hear or see anything going on under there.

I was just thinking about your chicks a short while ago- went out to my nest to collect the eggs and the old Pekin was sitting on an egg. I stole it from under her and, after I'd collected eggs from another part of the chookpen and topped up the pellets, etc., I noticed that the Polish rooster had kicked the Pekin off the nest and was making himself comfy in there, while one of the little silkie hens was looking on. I was annoyed that I didn't have my camera with me (the iPhone has captured some magic moments over the years!) and went a little closer to see what the roo was doing. He got all embarrassed and walked off the nest so I turned away. Next thing I saw that he'd gone back in and was muttering to himself, this time he had a little Polish hen looking on. It was as if he was the housekeeper, preparing his nest for visitors. :D

:( That's disappointing.
But don't forget she'd be coming out for food even if the eggs hadn't hatched. But 2 days over sounds like it's a problem- sadly. Especially if you're not hearing any noise there. You'd think that the chicks should be following her out by this stage.

How many chicks have you counted so far- and what types?

Was that mohawk rootser?! :D

4/6 Sussex hatched, and 3/3 Pekins.
Yep- the one I didn't get the photo of was the mohawk rooster. :(
I have a photo of my silkie rooster sitting on a nest, though- I thought he might've been keeping an egg warm but think now he must've been doing a bit of housekeeping. Just can't trust the ladies to do it right, can you? ;)

(I've got 2 cardboard boxes in the shed that I put in as temporary nests for when the other nests in the chookpen are in demand. Much better than finding eggs in random places. The smaller hens seem to like them better than their proper nests.)

Just got silly enough to crawl under the house to have a look.. A couple were rotten and the others a little cold, they must all be duds. Surprising as initially I thought that one would be the best at sitting and thought I should have put more under her. Oh well.

Now I have the problem of kicking it off the nest, very unusual that not even a couple didn't work.

Bugger. Did you try candling them to see how large the baby chick grew?
Definitely dead?
Just take the eggs away if they're no good. She should lose interest.
I don't quite understand this sentence. Candling?

It's also a massive effort to crawl towards the nest ha, I actually got a little nervous when trying to get out as I almost got stuck

Oh dear!!! :(

Was just looking for pics or videos to show you what candling is but read that you shouldn't do it past about 2 weeks into the incubation period. Basically what it is, is a method by which you can check to see if a) you've got fertile eggs and b) how the embryo is developing. I used to just take a good torch out at night, pick up an egg from under the chicken and shine a light behind the egg, so I could see through the shell, into the egg.

This will explain it better:
