Chillwave

definetely thought it needed its own thread.

for those of you not familiar with this genre of music, it is characterized by heavy use of effects processing, synthesizers, looping, sampling, and heavily filtered vocals. A genre first styled at the turn of the century.

Animal Collective and Ariel Pink are notable influences. and Toro Y Moi, Washed Out and Neon Indian are three of the best I can think of.

Toro Y Moi just recently released his second album, on top of his very successful debut album 'causers of this', 'underneath the pine' is sure to have excessive exposure on Triple JJJ and copped an 8.6 rating on pitchfork.

Ariel Pink also released an album recently.

I would also probably put bands like Best Coast, the Girls, Wavves and Deerhunter under the bracket of Chillwave.

I have listened to 'Underneath the Pine' and 'King of Limbs' and can safely say Toro has produced a better album.

Heck, whoever blogs on this site has a better understanding of chillwave music than I do.

hipsters took the "chillwave movement" seriously and thus the "genre" spawned. p ****ing funny, i reckon.

personally i think he should have gone with CumWave

anyway, p boring "genre" on the whole. and deerhunter isn't chillwave.

Ive had a hard-on for all things deerhunter ever since cryptograms dropped; which is easily their best work and one of the best albums of the latter 00s. They've since got gradually less interesting for mine but have still released two bitchin EPs and a very good double LP-thing. Last year's LP was a bit of a dud, comparatively speaking.

One of the few genuinely interesting rock bands of this era and awesome live.
