So, who can do 'em, and which ones?

I can chip shuffle, do the "step up", do the Johnny Chan from Rounders, and the chip twirl. The chip twirl is the most impressive, and it took me about a day to learn. Now I can do a lot of variations to it.

I didn't really learn them to look "cool". I wanted to give the impression that I have a lot of experience when I first sit down at a poker table, by the way I handle the chips. And yeah, the girls find it impressive at parties ;)

Has anyone bothered to learn?

I am ****ing hopeless at it. :(

It would give me some satisfaction is someone says they can do some tricks but at first they too struggled and wondered if persistence would pay off.

Definitely.

I took me a while to learn to chip shuffle, and at first the chip twirl was devestatingly hard. But I just carried chips around with me until I got used to it. Like everything, it takes some practice.

Just hit up google, type in "poker chip tricks", a few good sites come up.

I learned the chip twirl through looking at images. I do it kinda different to how they instructed - I twirl the chip in between my index and ring fingers instead of rolling the chip down onto the pinky. But it always helps to look at people doing it.

The best clip I have yet to see on chip tricks:

BTW, I'm getting better slowly, sitting at the PC, I fiddle with some 6 to 8 Crown $100 chips. Took them over to my folks tonight and just kept at it. Long way to go. I'm at a disadvantage though cos I've had major surgery on my right arm and hand.

I keep chips by the computer, so I'm always twirling them and shuffling them and what not. That helped getting used to it.

I tried to learn the Butterfly once, but I'll never get that down.

I've gotten pretty good at the step-up now. Do it more than chip shuffle.

It's where you take half the stack and switch it from bottom to top, then repeat. I think that's what it's called, and if it isn't... oh, well.
