Well that seems to be the barrow Mike Sheehan is pushing .....

Dean Bailey was Melbourne's Fall Guy
The names of Rodney Eade and Alastair Clarkson were canvassed in this space in Saturday's Herald Sun. I have one to add - Mark Williams, the more celebrated namesake of one of Bailey's assistants.

The Williams who, in effect, is coaching Greater Western Sydney after a career at Port Adelaide that doesn't earn the recognition it deserves.

Williams' time at Alberton ended badly, with his tenure abruptly ended after Round 15 last year.

Here are the pertinent facts. He is about to turn 53, he coached Port in 274 games from 1999-2010 for a 55 per cent win rate, with one premiership and two Grand Finals.

Just for comparative purposes, Paul Roos, 48, coached Sydney in 202 games for a 57 per cent win rate, with one flag from two Grand Finals.

call me a leper but...

Choco could coach

Choco had Gold passes

choco had bad draft selections

Choco played em out of postion..but he was smartr enough to try different thgings and melbourne should consider him over an unknown

Choco was a great coach but it went to his head and he thought he could take on the world.

Make no mistake, he can coach though

I can just picture Jim Carrey playing Choco in the Hollywood feature Choco - A Football Life but instead of

Finkle/Einhorn
Finkle/Einhorn
Finkle/Einhorn

it would be

Baghdad/Melbourne
Baghdad/Melbourne
Baghdad/Melbourne.

I think I would rather go looking for Saddam Hussein replica statues in downtown Al A'Zamiyah than head to Melbourne Football Club at the moment.

Caro made a big pitch on Footy Classified for Choco to be considered for the coaching job at Melbourne.

Or for Sheedy to step aside and let him do the job for real at GWS.

I'd rate Roo's far greater than Choco, these journalists are forgetting the legacy he's left our great club!!!

Would be perfect.

That list is primed to explode and he'd be a muchneeded media operator to boot, hopefully shorn of the cliches and bizarre psychological tactics that marked his last few years at Alberton.

I dunno, as acutely damaging as his influence ultimately was he'd have been the most underresourced reigning Premiership coach since Denis Pagan at North.

Look at the rivers of gold at Malthouse's disposal. Fulltime coaches, fulltime medical, fulltime analysts. The works.

Instead, we go into 2005 downsized in practically every department and are watching our premiership profits disappear into the Leigh Whicker malevolent fund every week thereafter.

Was it Macca who mentioned us having to let Pelchen go in order to cut costs at the end of 2004? I mean FFS. Ludicrous.

It's not hard to have the lunatic - madness hand in hand with genius and all that - running the asylum when there's no-one else on staff.
