Now Chopper.

No. 1 defensive forward in the league (should still be after last night). On a night where there were many half assed, limp wristed tackles, Chopper drove the ball carrier into the turf time and again. This guy is only getting better and along with Frodo and Kep is essential to our structure and gameplan. His kicking is improving along with his marking, his tackling is superb which makes him just about our most dangerous forward imo.

definite love for chopper, but he is not the number one defensive forward in the league. ballas has that mantle sown up :thumbsu:

only gripe i have with chopper is his accuracy at goal, hopefully he can sort his yips out

He actually had more tackles than anyone else in the league...so think he does take the no1 title.

However think my buddy helps. Team effort I think.

He'll get his yips sorted soon no doubt

His set shot for goal has improved a hell of a lot, I don't think it is as bad as some are making out here.

Toward the end of last year, I noticed he refused to kick at goal from outside 30m, instead passing it off (effectively) to a teammate. I asked my Docker mate if he had a groin or hammy that he was protecting and he didn't think so. I notice this year, Mayne is taking set shots from further out. Does anyone know if Mayne had a tweak toward the end of last season?

yeah, well his goal to behind ratio would disagree with that
Does that measure set shots does it?

His set shot for goal looks a lot more assured than last year, and he's already kicked half the goals he did last year in a third of the games.

not sure of the exact figures, but mayne has missed a number of very gettable shots this year that he should have gotten, he is no orphan there though. he missed quite a few games last year which would account for the increased output. dont think that im against mayney, i love him as a player, but like everyone he has an area that he can get better in, im sure his ratio will improve as his career progresses

Chopper has kicked 5.2 over the last 3 weeks, he's fine.

totally agree. if he can keep kicking a couple of goals a game or thereabouts, he's checked the goal kicking box. all the other stuff of chasing and pressuring is terrific.

It's not like he's spraying them out on the full or just missing the behind post

The whole team is having trouble kicking on goal

yep, look like i said he is no orphan, he just has an area of his game he needs to improve, like every other player on our list

I think he's improved...as someone already mentioned, the last few games he's been fine.

I remember reading an article about how Pav and Chopper have been working very closely together, and he's been trying to improve his set shot routine (breathing etc).

Yeah I think some people just remember the one shocker he had against Geelong where he kicked 4 straight behinds.

But like you say, since then he's been fine.

i recon mayne is an elite A grade player of the comp, his defensive work and tackling in the forward line is incredible. him and ballas set the standard for our forward pressure which is critical to our game plan

Mayne is important to our structure and yes he does alot of the hard stuff. But to call him an elite A grade player is taking it a bit too far
