Your days are numbered Chris, you cannot constantly put up perfoances that don't warrant your selection no matter what "role" your playing, Your the VFL's problem now (I hope)

Gees thought he was alright. In the clutch last minute his ruck efforts were fantastic. He's just not getting the ball in scoring positions, hope he gets that back that's make us sit above the competition. He's the one player we need to unlock for forward pressure.

Next time someone creates one of these threads, can they please add how they plan on covering the back-up ruck role.

The back up ruck role needs to be able to play 70/80% as key forward. Woody can not do that as well as Dawesy and our defensive pressure up forward becomes pedestrian.

Actually thought he did OK today against the best ruck duo in the comp.

This afternoon was one of his best games for the year I thought. Having said that I still don't think he was great.

There were some glimpses of 2010 Dawes in the first 10 min where he was able to find space and take some marks, but after that he dropped back to 2011/2012 Dawes where he is nothing more than a role player.

Enough is enough- I agree 100%.

I'm sick of the umps murdering this bloke. The amount of times Brown and Glass held him was a joke. I think we are all sick of these tactics employed against him.

He was better this week. Stop having a crack at him all the time.

This.

Hate how Dawes is the first player people want out of the team there were players worse (Clarke and Buckley) he was better today and played a good ruck role in the 2nd Half.

Like oithers I thought Dawes was fantastic in the final minutes, with the ball in the backline, Jolly off the ground and a series of ball ups in WC forward territory. I thought we were gone, but Dawes held up well and was good in the first half. He needs to kick goals but I am sure he knows his definciencies and is working hard to correct them. He deserves more respect for his efforts given the class players he rucked against.

If he actually had the chance to play a full game up forward he would probably kick two or three goals a week. Hard to find rhythm when he has to spend time in the ruck. Leigh Brown was pretty average for the majority of last year so if you compare Dawes this year to Brown of last year there would not be much difference. He is sacrificing his own game for the betterment of the team and is improving each week. As noted above, if you want to drop him, who comes in to play his role?

Does anyone know why he was wearing an arm guard?

Right at the end he should have marked the ball. Im startin to feel for him. He cant mark and hed be the first to admit it. In passages of running play did ok i reckon

Huge effort against COx in the last 3 or 4 stoppages to not only stop Cox but get his hands to the ball, and never give the umpire a chance to give a free against, despite being vs the best frees for ruckman in the comp.
I am starting to really like his competitive efforts in the ruck, and how many times was he outmarked today? None. Thats how many, despite being against two A grade defenders in Glass and McKenzie.
He's not flying but he is crucial to the team.
