I don't think anyone thought JA would turn out so badly after kicking 50 goals in a season. After opposition teams started putting a good backman on him, he started to struggle. I see parallels with Dawes. He was dominant against inferior backmen, but has now struggled for more than 12 months. We excused last year due to injury, but he has been injury free in 2012.

While we never expected him to star when he spends 5 minutes a quarter in the ruck, it's the other 25 minutes that have been so very poor.

I can't see Dawes finding form against the Saints or the Swans who both play tight defensive football. Why not give him a run in the VFL for two week and return for North.

Absolutely agree.

People argued for his retention v GWS to build some confidence. He didn't take the opportunity (barely took an inside 50 mark). I think he needs to go to VFL and kick a couple of bags before the finals starts.

How is it too late to play Ceglar or Witts? Last i checked finals haven't started, now is the perfect time to see what they can offer.
Continuity. We cant afford to be swapping people in and out of the team when finals are so close. We haven't had one game this year when there have been no changes. If the club hadn't made the decision to drop Dawes before Saturday's game they are not going to do it now.

So no Didak, no Johnson, no Krakouer and no Macaffer?

Do you not understand what swapping means? If we play Ceglar or Witts this week we have to take them out again for finals. If we play Didak he will most likely stay in the team and come in at the expense of someone who will not play finals. No point giving Ceglar or Witts a go if we know we have to just dump them again in a fortnight.

I disagree with this. If Ceglar or Witts gets promoted and contribute 2 goals and 10 hitouts in the 2nd ruck/key forward role, I guarantee they'll keep their spot in the finals as it would be double what Dawes is giving the team at the moment.

I don’t know if it is just me but Dawes seems so slow and sometimes seems to just give up when chasing. I keep saying to myself he is in the contest and bringing the ball to ground for us and I see him do stuff that creates opportunities for us. But I guess we all want the same thing, 10 marks and 5 or 6 goals every game.

I thought Dawes was good in the last half vs GWS, clunked a few marks on the wing. I know it wasn't the best opponent but I think he'll get some confidence out of it, I'd like us to stick with him.

dawes can improve himself if his goal kicking were better. the improvement needs to start from somewhere and soon

No love for Dawesy's game on the weekend? He kicked two goals and looked even better than last week. He's building and will be set to explode come finals time!:):thumbsu:

He was Good and I say he had a Better Game the Clokey

Dawes was OK but not great, and not good enough to be in a best players' list. Hopefully he will continue his improvement. I am still far from convinced that he is going to be one of our strengths in the finals, but where there is life there is hope

So Reiwold and Kosi were better?

Was his best game for the year I thought, but still has a way to go good signs if he can keep it up and improve on it.
As 'good' as his game was, he gave us nothing in the ruck and thus Jolly didn't get the rest he needed. Jolly was out of gas in the last 10 minutes and it almost cost Collingwood the game. I think Buckley will need to rest Jolly again (probably round 23 against Essendon) as I fear Dawes inability in the ruck will cost the team in the finals.

To be fair Dawes has been thrown into the ruck-role without any previous (AFL) experience. Personally, when assessing Dawes' game I do not count his rucking ability. It may have almost cost us the game but it's not his fault we don't have another pinch-hitter.

He is averaging 1 hitout per game less than Leigh Brown's 2010 and 2011.

good game for Dawes. Will be happy if he can continue to play with that sort of output for the rest of the year. You never know I think he is about to hit some real form.

His past month has been acceptable, in fact he is doing the Leigh Brown role just as well, if not better than Leigh himself.

The thing Brown had behind him was an AA forward in Cloke and an up and coming CHF plying his trade full-time up forward in Chris Dawes.

Dawes has a struggling key forward with baggage in Cloke and well...that's it.

Yes we can cry all we want about Dawes' season, fact is his stats are the same as Brown, who copped all the plaudits, whilst his circumstances are way tougher.

No they were not better - I hardly saw Riewoldt. Dawes was still no star though he was better than a month ago. I am sick of discussing Dawes' form. However well he may have done last week, he is still not up to the kind of standard that he should be, and the same applies to Cloke. Riewoldt has had some very good games this year, while our two big blokes have had maybe two between them. We have waited all season for them to come good. 18 games have passed without either of them looking the kind of threat they are expected to be given their supposed talent and experience. I have no expectations of either of these players, both of whom seem totally overrated.

Played a better game. Presented well and kicked a very important goal. Hope he can continue on the upward trend. Sydney will be the test as Dawes need to look impressive against a top 4 team. No point playing well against a bottom 8 team and then playing poorly against our finals opponents.
