Chris Judd - Is he recovering properly?

I still fail to see why we care if he's not ready for round 1? If someone comes to me and proves that he's out for half the season, that will be a disaster - but rounds 3-4?

I'll say it again, I couldnt care less. Whatever is in his best interests.

This is a non-issue really.....right for round 1, won't be right for round 1, ready by round 4.....we'll take ready by round 4 and Judd in Navy Blue as opposed to KB's box seat ;):thumbsu:

but its just such a great seat!!! :p:p

So you've seen him complete a full training session or?

Training on Monday was scheduled for 8:30 to 10:30.

I was there about 10:15 and popped in to watch and he was out there training with the main group.

Training ran very late and the players didn't go back into the rooms until well after 11.

I caught the great one on his way into the rooms for a brief chat. He was moving freely and smoothly, talking and smiling cheerfully and didn't show any signs of discomfort or pain. Take that as you will...

He will be a 200 game player at Carlton. Whether he does or doesnt get to full fitness by round 1 should really be of little concern. Remember you play the Tigers anyway. Round 2 is where he may be handy.

Are you sure you're an Essendon supporter? :)

Looks so comfy

Meanwhile as all this media bullshit was going on about Judd, Richmond supporters chose to focus more attention on that than on their own problems, and now they have their #2 draft pick "suddenly" on the long-term injured list.

This is what shits me about this whole thing. Players are REALLY getting injured out there, but all the papers (and BF for that matter) want to talk about is Judd feeling a tad sore.

It was actually scheduled to start at 9, but they often start later than scheduled.

Like today, scheduled at 3:30, didn't start until 4

But anyway, Judd did all non-contact drills and moved freely and smoothly. He actually picked up the pace in the last drill, and was probably running flat out which was awesome to see

I called the club in the morning and they told me training was 8:30-10:30. It wasn't listed on the website, so I guess scheduled has a pretty loose definition?

I was just thinking how lucky we are to have a debate on when Judd will be coming into the team.

JUDD IS AT CARLTON!!!!!

ps Squad for saturdays game has been released, does anyone have it?

I would prefer if he had an injury to have a break and do the correct rehab. Remember this is not he best player in the game we are talking about, he is only a kid who has not payed an AFL game yet, albeit with a good reputation.

Show us your medical degree ....otherwise wtf would you know about ANY players injury or recovery process ???

Clubs are profesional organisations who have top line very well paid medical staff who know what they are doing ..lets just leave it in their hands and mind our own business eh ?

Good comeback mate. I'm not sure Adrian Whitehead would agree with your assessment.

How far back in medical and injury assessment/management do you want to go? We've moved on and the procedures for dealing with all types of injuries are far more sophisticated these days. I think Whitehead's case was based on him receiving painkillers to his foot which when played on allegedly became worse. Doubt this sort of mistake (alleged) would occur again. Bluebear?

This article should go down a treat on BagFooty. ;) :)

Standing start
Judd is, truly, an inside player. His advice to the impatient masses is not to expect the stellar Judd early in the 2008 season. He is recovering from a groin injury, and an operation he now reckons might have been unnecessary.

"Had I had my time over, I’d think long and hard about having surgery at all." Judd, a reader of The Australian Financial Review, is dampening initial market expectations.

"Yeah, I think it will take a while. I don’t think I’ll bowl into the season the same way I bowled into last season or the season before. I mean, just because of my preseason, I’ve only been kicking for a month. I’m still yet to do any competitive work."
He understands now that his groin problem was caused by the way he moves and stands, that the teenage shoulder injuries that so worried clubs pre-draft have influenced his posture, and thus impacted upon his groin.

"My sitting posture was terrible. It’s very interesting the way it works. It’s interesting how something like my shoulders had an impact on my groins. Ever since I was sort of 16 years old, I’ve never done bench press. But I’ve just hammered chin ups . . . and my lats got so tight that it was that tightness and the effect that was having on my posture — you know, along with a million other things — that played a role in the injury.

"It’s amazing how much my awareness of everything I do has really increased."

Judd has spent several hours a week working on his new posture with movement expert Mark McGrath, formerly of the Victorian Institute of Sport, who works for an anti-child obesity organisation. "That illustrated to me just how sort of bad a lot of my postures and things like that have become."

The most painful lesson of 2007 was that he should not have kept playing injured, as he did in late in the season. "It was a dumb decision. I’m lucky to have gotten out of it . . . the groin’s pretty good now. "I’m pretty close to actually being able to play. But it’s just a case if I do too much, then they flare up and they get sore and then I’ve just got to back off for a while."
Judd said of Pratt’s corporate misdeed: "I haven’t paid huge attention to it. I guess Richard admitted he made a mistake and he’s paid his punishment and I’m sure it’s been a pretty big stress on him and his family. But it hasn’t affected the footy club at all and had any impact on me. I don’t think it’s overshadowed the positive things he’s done in his life."

Again, Judd draws a distinction between what matters to him and his footy team, and external matters that are deemed irrelevant.

Back in late September, Judd was criticised by Leigh Matthews for his method of courting — and being courted by — the clubs bidding for his services.

Judd does take Matthews’ opprobrium personally. Where others might have bitten back, he just politely disagrees with the legend. "Sometimes, there’s this notion that everyone has to think the same way. There’d be a million things that Leigh and I disagree on. You know, two generations apart and completely different people. And that was one of the things it appeared we disagreed upon. I didn’t even read the comment. I got told about it. And no biggy but, it gets expected that that would mean that I’ve somehow got to justify what I’m doing. But I don’t. It just means that’s something we disagree upon.

"I’ve got friends that obviously have full-time jobs. And before they take that job they actually meet with the people you’re going to work for. I did a similar process and a fairly common way to go about gaining employment."

Chris Judd knows how to stand his ground. That part of his posture hasn’t changed.
Love you Juddy!

Thought that Judd article was a great read. Really like Judd's attitude. He's a clear, independent thinker. He puts the "Footy Media World" and the media general in perfect context. A clever guy. Also like his comments on leadership. Regardless of whether he gets the top job or not, its clear that his presence and input will take our leadership group to another level of professionalism. On field leadership is one aspect, but the off-field bit i.e. planning and preparation is another area we'll benefit from. :)

Great read. Just disappointing to see there are actually groups for fat people who dislike children. Should be stamped out.
