I know we need an elite quick midfielder right? well chris judd said he wont renegociate his contract until the end of 05 and hirdy will most likely retire next year , i think with hirds contract freeing up money and mercs also retiring we should really push for him.

Pipe dream? what do u guys think..

I don`t think it`s a pipe dream , there is every chance that we could have a season from hell (say similar to collingwoods 1999, hahah) We could finish in the lower reaches and do a deal such as the one that delivered our Champion Full Forward Matthew Lloyd. We could do a deal that appeals to w.coast . Essendon have proved themselves the best in the trading buisness, the best.
All indications are that the boy will come home, J.Hird has intimated he is getting to the end, Mercs will more than likely be finished as would his healthy contract. There would be plenty of salary cap space for us to play with. Why wouldn`t Judd want to come to Australian Football`s greatest club ?

no idications at all. typical press betup, yes he said that he didnt want to renegotiate until next year but dont be suprised that he signs before the start of next year. like he did on his last contract.

in that same interview he was asked if he would like to stay and he said "of course, this club has a fine future and ive made some true friends". naturally this isnt mentioned in anything.

even if judd leaves us i don't think he would go to essendon... matthew lloyd is the only essendon player we would want at the eagles and i can't see a lloyd-judd swap happening. As for wirra, leave him alone.

Every indication thus far is that Judd will stay, and if he does want to stay, there is no way in the steamy depths of hell that we'd trade him.

As for Wirra- there's some prospect of him being trade bait this year. He's not a throwaway by any stretch and we'd be happy to keep him, but there has been some talk that the club might look at trading aggressively.

Say hypothetically Wirrpunda or alternatively Wirrpunda + our first round pick were on the table, what would be on offer?

Ha!

Let's hope you never enter some sort of bargining agreement job.

What do the Eagles need? KPP's?

Thats what people seem to think, but its a bit more complex than that.

We've basically got no shortage of promising young kids in the kpp positions- there are probably 6-7 guys 194cm+ and 21years or under with a lot of potential, so we probably wouldn't want another who fits into that category.

What we do need-
Established kpp players not too old, with a preference for versatile types capable of playing CHB/CHF. Lucas is the only guy I can think of who would fit that category very nicely, albeit his age (28? ) is a bit of a worry.

Defensive midfielders, close checking back pockets. These two are pretty important to us atm, we have a kickass midfield but tend to lack guys capable of fulfilling a tagging role. I'd have a bit of interest in Peverill and Mark Johnson, with the deal adjusted appropriately with draft picks.

Hardness in the backline, someone like Solomon would be nice, although after the trouble your lot went through to keep him last year, I doubt he'd be on the table.

In absence of that kind of deal or ontrading, we'd definitely be interested in any kind of deal that would get us a top 3 or 4 draft pick, since we could use that to draft one of the read made kpps going about. I think the club would be prepared to offer Wirra + our first rounder for a top 2 or 3 pick.

Lucas is 26 - but valued very highly at the club - doubt we'd give him up for anything short of a Kerr, Judd or Fletcher.

We could give you Henneman - he's a tall defender that can go forward and back, and pinch-hit in the ruck. 24 years old, played fifty-odd games. He's crap, though.
Is that a problem?

What we do have an excess of riches of is defensive smalls - McVeigh, MJ, Peverill and Bullen can all tag in the midfield, although if you're going for hardness, McVeigh and Bullen probably wouldn't be your shot, but Welsh and Solomon shouldn't be on the table, and McPhee is untouchable (and just signed for another two).

We probably won't have a top 10 draft pick to offer, let alone top 4 - even if we end up eighth, there's priority picks to consider.

Lucas for Fletcher? sold. With us having Butler coming through and getting Mitch Morton FS next year, I'd be pretty happy to see that done, although in view of our recent history i doubt the club would make a trade that big.

To clarify, I wouldn't want to do Lucas for Fletcher - we need him at CHF too badly - but the club would definitely consider it. We've publicly stated we need quick star midfielders, and Fletcher would fit the bill very nicely.

If we were going to deal Lucas for Fletcher, we'd probably also look to take one of your young KPPs (Hansen? Staker?) because we lack quality young KPPs. We've got a few flankers and ruckmen, but not genuine KPPs.

Perhaps something like Lucas + 3rd round pick for Fletcher and Hansen/Staker would be appropriate.

Or perhaps MJ + 3rd round pick for Fletcher.

See.. there is always one that has to push there luck lol :p .

Hansen is worth more than 3rd round. He's a ready made player who looks to be making the CHF spot his own, a position on the ground that we have struggled to fill since the injury to Gasper. We had Jacko there for a season, but that was a patch up job until someone like Hansen came through. I can't see us letting him go.

Lucas is worth more than Fletcher.

Edit: And Hansen isn't a ready made player. He's still in the process of settling in.
