Premium dreamteamer..am I right?
No.
Is the Highest he can score 90?
Yes.
Does he always get near the 90 mark?
No.

So Judd was the most exciting midfielder in the competetion till his groin injury. Played an excellent game today (25 possies) and still doesnt reach the 100 mark.

He pisses me..he will never reach it.

What are the people going to do that have juddy in their team.

For me I have really no choice due to trades. I would love to upgrade him to Goodwin but like I said..i really cant.

What is everyone doing?

Depends on your trade situation Porps. He has never been a great DTer - can pull out the big one occasionally but he tends to be the one getting the ball out to others, whereas a Swan/Goodwin will often get marks, uncontested or otherwise. I hear he is a SC gun, but I am not huge on SC.

It also depends on problems in other areas - I have the same dilemma with Cameron Ling, but he is still getting 90s and I just hope he gets better after the break, because I am tempted to blow a trade (9 left) to upgrade him. Ling tends not to get a 50 which Judd will sometimes, so I will probably hang in there.

Thanks for the advise.
Yeah i have 5 trades left with Wonna and Ibbo left to upgrade..:(

he did score three 110+ in a row early on in the year and with the break coming up in a couple of weeks he should freshen up and get back into that good dt form:thumbsu:

Judd has always been a premium SC player, but never a premium DT player. There are only 7 midfielders who fall under the category of premium DT mids:

Ablett
Corey
Bartel
Thompson
Swan
Kornes
Cross

Marc Murphy and Lenny Hayes are just below this however Murphy could become elite in by the end of this year.

So in answering your question, no Judd is not an elite/premium DT midfielder.

I think Hayes is an elite, Murphy not yet - maybe a new breed with Salopek etc ready to step up. Hayes has been hampered by something I reckon for the last month or so, as he is just not getting involved the way he usually does.

My point was it really is about consistency - Judd may have averaged over 100 in '06, but others have had great years - Lindsay Gilbee for example. He is still seviceable, but when I said great I meant great.

Averaged mid 80's a for 2 seasons before stepping up and averaging 101 in 06 and around 100 for the first half of 07 before doing his groin.
I believe that he is scoring poorly not only because of his groin but also due to Carlton not laying enough blocks on taggers.
This is something that WC learnt to do for him and I believe Carlton will probably learn to do the same eventually. Geelong are doing it extremely well for Ablett at the moment.

i'm not so certain on Hayes being elite. He has only ever averaged over 100 once in his career and that was in a short season of 9 games. Along with an average of 91.75 so far this year I would consider him just outside the elite bracket IMO. If you put it this way, would you take Hayes ahead of any of 7 players mentioned in my original post?

I think Kornes carries the risk of being a tagger, and but I doubt I would take Lenny ahead of him in all honesty. Maybe if you are looking at trends he is on the downwards while Murphy, Salopek, Pendlebury are on the up trend. All the Dters you mentioned are truly elite mids. I just think Lenny at his best is up there - he hasn't been the same since he broke his collarbone last year, though your statistics about him are interesting.

By the same token Carrazzo & Scotland are blues who have had a breakout year or two, but when the team environment changes so does their role - this keeps them for being targets for your team. Still good Dters. Whoever mentioned the blocks the Weagles used to put on for Judd is spot on - I have never seen a team so selflessly protect one of their own - was great to watch. Maybe Carlton will learn ot do it one day, but it won't be this year - there are too many others trying to make their mark I think. Until then I think Judd will toil away, get the odd ton, but I certainly wouldn't choose him over any of the others mentioned in this post.

Reallu shouldn't have gotten him in when I did, Simon Black would have been a much better choice for around the same price but I've only got 4 trades left and I have bigger holes to fill, namely my whole backline.

He could be a good pickup next year with a better team structure eg getting people to block his tagger, full preseason and a big break to recover.

He is no where near 100%, R. Shaw easily beat him today and Judd is slow compared to him self in peak form.

Edit: Black could also be a premium DTer or atleast outside with Murphy

:thumbsu: to Black, and we shouldn't forget the former king in Nigel Lappin. Not much good when he's not on the park though.

I don't think Judd is all that suited to Dream Team. He doesn't get a lot of marks (he only ever averages around 3 marks a game) and doesn't pick up a lot of cheap possessions (he's not much of a HB line seagull unlike other midfielders). In his last 3 years he's also been handballing just as much as he's been kicking. In 2006 his highest scoring DT year he did it by getting 4.9 tackles and kicking 1.3 goals per game. As his tackle count and goal kicking has dropped so has his DT score. He also just isn't looking right this year and doesn't look as though he's over his groin injury yet. He still needs another off season to hopefully fully get over it. Even still in order for him to crack the 100 he has to have a huge game compared to other midfielders who take a lot of marks and get cheap possessions.

I have the Wonna and Ibbo upgrade situation too..after looking at the stats tonight i think the Heater and Birchinall will be at bargain basement prices over the next few weeks.

They will almost be straight swaps i'm glad i waited till this came along.

dt performance and form on the field are only loosely related.

joel bowden being a classic example
