Neitz?
Offer him a job at the club or at a sponsor.... outside football dept cap.... for big money.
He gets his money, we get him off our list

I tend to agree. Maybe give him next year then frontload his contract remaining two years and delist. Minimise the damage somewhatShould 100% delisted. Pay him out. Out of sight out of mind. Otherwise we keep people talking for another 3 years about this spud on our list.

Blair us better currently that's the big issue with him.Special can't believe I'm agreeing with you.
If we're paying him anyway may as well be depth. He's better then say Blair so he's not the least of our list.
Nice enough fellow so can't see him being a bad influence on the list. He can do a Caff role in the VFL or be emergency depth. We're paying so why pay for nothing at all?
Don't think Collingwood makes decisions based on what we talk about on the boards.Should 100% delisted. Pay him out. Out of sight out of mind. Otherwise we keep people talking for another 3 years about this spud on our list.

I see no reason why he can't have a good year next year. He's not too old, he can play, and we don't actually have another player of his type. If he gets himself going, and if we need to structure the side with a medium/tall forward rather than another tall one, then he will play. He has to get himself into form, but that is the only real requirement. I don't think he will be asked to leave unless he has another bad year next year.
You could come to a mutual agreement to terminate the contract for said money. Once the contract is terminated he is no longer an AFL player and therefore not subject to payments outside the salary cap. The rest of that owed to Chris comes from his new job.

If his contract is performance based (as some have indicated it may be); are we obliged to include the full/maximum amount in the salary cap?
For example...his base is $300,000 with the ability to earn $500,000 if he triggers AFL games played per season, kicks x amount of goals etc.
Assume we must include the full $500,000 in the Cap (even though he may actually be paid less, due to spending the entire season in the VFL).
I understand the need for clubs to keep player contracts confidential (for both the player & clubs benefit), however due to the exceptional circumstances in this case...would be good if the club did explain the situation to members & at least release the general broad details of this deal.
Or at least come out & say that he won't be paid $2 million over 4 years.
Give us some clarity on the situation, then we all move on.

The AFL would see through paying him a nominal amount to ditch the contract and the rest as an employee outside the cap. Whatever he's paid would almost certainly still come under the cap - at best would just free a spot on the list.Is this even possible under the salary cap rules? Not sure
Im going out on a limb here and predicting he'll come out and have a decent 2018. Kick his 25-30 goals and be a serviceable forward for the Pies. I think he'll come out and prove his doubters wrong.
There are obviously gonna be those who'll assume he'll be running around in some bush league after his delisting too.
What do you think he'll offer up in 2018? Will he still be on the list?
What if we're at our cap, and he is smashing it in the seniors so the extra $200,000 comes into play and needs to be paid?As far as I know, it's only what the player is actually payed is recorded against TPP.
All very good questions. It's left me bewildered. With Elliott out indefinitely and Cloke gone, I would've seen Mayne as a top 6 forward in the club at the start of the season. No idea what's happened.I'd love it if he did. Bit here's a question: what actually happend to him? How was he good enough at freeo to be in a grand final team but can't he a game in our seniors? Is it style? Lyon's notorious loyalty?

Here's my theory with regard to the recruitment of Chris Mayne.
I reckon the club were convinced that Jamie Elliot would never play again, or at least never regain his form due to the condition of his back. I know that Elliot himself thought at times that his playing days were over. Panic stations. Cloke was also out the door, so they needed someone with a truck load of experience. Mayne was the best available. Durable. Hadn't missed a game in 6 years. Credit to Elliot though. He found a way back. But it leaves no place in the team for Mayne. He's left languishing in the VFL, 2000 miles from home, and every single weekend he has to listen to snide remarks over the fence about letting the club down, and not earning his money.
This is all just theory, but I haven't heard a better explanation. The club certainly aren't talking. A player doesn't lose his ability over one summer. My guess is that he'll grow tired of waiting for an opportunity, and tire of the constant abuse, and ask for a trade at the end of this season. I'm not sure there'll be any interest though. All this time in the VFL has plummeted his market value. My guess is that the club will hold on to Mayne, at least for 2018, just in case Elliot has a relapse. It's a very real possibility. Last week he barely trained.
Lastly, somebody on this thread quoted David Schwartz. Whoever that person is, don't demean yourself. First of all, David's an idiot. My apologies to any Dees fans reading this, but it's true. Secondly, he doesn't know a ******* thing about the CFC.
There was a massive hoo haa when Buddy signed the deal with SYD and the AFL came out and said even if he retired before the end of his 9 year deal the swans need to include that into there salary.. I will try and find a link but might be a struggle.. I think we will struggle to get rid of him and can only hope that he has a massive performance based contact..I have an inkling that FA salary deals are treated differently in TPP considerations. Last year we were able to work out a deal with Cloke that saw the contract mutually ripped up meaning no TPP impact going forward but with the FA's I don't think that is an option and the contracted salary has to be retained against TPP as specified in the contract. Happy for someone to confirm.
